GREEK FIRE ~ Spitfire MkVb & MC202v8 Campaign

Recommended Posts

I am in the first series of missions  & have to thank you for including the 202 for at least the first mission- its a plane I like but hardly ever fly and now I kinda have to. I did manage to nail the two 109’s , but only as they were on their way home pilots dreaming of sausage & beer and not paying attention to their “ 6 “.....Bravo!

Jaegermeister,

I'm enjoying your campaign very much, very immersive.  However, after the last update I noticed that the lead Spit is always in a VVS skin, while the others are in the appropriate African skins.  I've tired to correct this with the mission editor, but with no luck.  Perhaps you could give it a quick look and correct it.  Thanks

I’ll take a look and see If something is out of whack. What mission are you on?

@Falcon41 I have a completed installed version of this campaign on my computer and I do not have that issue. Perhaps there is a graphics setting that was changed when you installed the update?

I can tell you how to check in the Mission Editor and see if the skin is still selected if you like. Since the other skins are still visible, you appear to have the right skins installed. Perhaps that one is missing?

You could also copy the mission files and send them to me and I will look at it to see if something has changed. It would also help to know what mission it in.

Jaegermeister,

I went back to the very first mission and the leader's plane was in VVS colors.  Perhaps telling me how to check in the mission editor would be a good first step as the missions themselves appear to run properly, its just that the leaders plane is always in VVS colors.  Incidentally, I've played the entire campaign before the latest update with no problems.  Only after the most recent update did this problem appear for me.

Check to see if you have spitfiremkvb_b skin in your data/graphics/skins/SpitfireMkVb folder

If you want to open the file in the Mission Editor, in the Greek Fire campaign folder open 01

scroll out and right click and drag up to the top left corner of the map, or select the double pane view and drag the view window to the top left.over the “Island”

you should see a group MSN to the bottom right of the straight over the water. Right click and ungroup

move to your left and look for group PLR. Ungroup

move further left and locate the airfield

select Swift 1 and double left click. Under the properties window, you should see the skin in the drop down box about 5 lines down on the left. If it’s there, and you have the skin in your skins folder I am at a loss. I have not been able to duplicate this issue

You could just download the file again. I have updated it to work with the last patch and if you reinstall it over the old file, it will not erase your progress.

the file currently posted is set up to unzip directly to your IL2 Great Battles root directory

let me know how it goes

Jaegermeister,,

I had a computer problem the other night and had to reload all the campaigns I've collected.  Long story short, I downloaded your campaign and now I'm not having the problem we discussed yesterday.  Thanks for your help and who knows what goes on inside our computers.  Yikes!!!!!!

Greek Fire

Thanks for the campaign!:good: It was very interesting to visit the new theater.

I translated this campaign for myself into Russian and made some skins for beauty. Along the way, I learned from related literature a lot about the Mediterranean stage.

In the campaign, I liked the fact that bombers could be attacked with almost impunity. Apparently, their gunners in previous missions glut oneself pervetin and therefore do not react immediately.  And it's good that they do not disappear. :acute:I changed the fighters for myself on a five-point G-6. Perhaps they are less agile, but I planted aces almost everywhere. But still they were able to knock out much less than the bombers. But on a Macchi, fighting the G-4 in the last mission was very difficult. As a result, I did not reach Turkey, but apparently I escaped by boat.

Yeah, it looks like you changed lots of things. Bombs on the Spit, extra ID codes not used at that time by SAAF, etc. Your skins do look nice though.

If that’s what works for you, glad you had fun with it. 👍

I did not add bombs to Spitfire. :)

Concerning extra ID codes. I just could not find on the Internet a single photograph or drawing with the aircraft of the 7th SAFF squadron. But the other squadrons for which there is a photo seemed to have the full code. Or I'm wrong?

The only thing that I noticed near the end of the campaign is that the South Africans in the identification mark should have a red circle in orange. Is that right?

Great job with the cannon in that case!

i found a couple of images of 7 sq. MkVbs from Egypt and Palestine at that time had single letter codes. All the British squadrons were using 3 letter codes by that time, and the SAAF squadron(s) in Italy also had them. As near as I can tell, after the 7th sq. Spitfire Vbs were destroyed or abandoned on Kos, they were re-equipped with Spitfire IXs and moved to Italy with the TJ prefix.

i will try to find the references, but they are obscure. I deleted all that stuff when I finished the campaign. There were very few records from that time period, because they didn’t take anything with them when they evacuated the island. There is very little regarding the SAAF in Palestine either.

Edit...

Here is one of the 74th Spitfires that flew in from Cyprus to relieve them on Kos

I just took advantage of the game bug.:blush:Yes, I was the first to fire a submarine, but of course Bowfighters destroyed it. And the game counted my victory.

Understood thanks! Then I need to remake my skins.

Halfway through this campaign and I'm really enjoying it :)

The mission-to-mission narrative flows well and I feel like I'm able to maintain character.

Glad you like it. It was a kind of shoestring mission to begin with , so it made it easier to represent without a large support structure.
