Rift 1.37 Release - Headset Screenshot added

Recommended Posts

From the Rift 1.37 software release notes:

Screenshot capture in VR: Capture screenshots from inside your headset by pressing the 'screenshot' button located on the menu on the right side of your Dash belt. There is a 5 second timer to set the pose and position of the screenshot. Images will be saved out to your C:\Users\*User*\Pictures\ directory. Happy screenshotting!

You can now capture in headset screenshots using the Dash panel overlay.

Gave it a try this morning, results below:

That´s a nice feature.

It is strange that image you posted is 1536x1536 pixels. They are no the witdh-hegiht ratio of the Rift display.

I believe you are using OTT SS at 1.6 PD (which is equivalent to 266% in steamVR SS). The details you get from the gauges are quite nice.

Here it will be easy to compare images with different level of SS, and also compare the images of the Rift-S.  (of course, the through lens images are ideal, but they are not easy to take)

That was at native resolution.

I was not using OTT when I checked this out so was not using any SS.

Maybe the pic resolution is something Oculus hardcoded in the screen shot feature?

Also I uploaded the images to imgur, so not sure if that plays into it either.

The default target resolution of the Rift is 2688x1600. It's then downsampled to 2160x1200. This is done to fix lense distortion.

But that's 1344x1600 per eye That doesn't fully explain your resolution.

Apparently the screen shot size must be hard coded in the Oculus software's new screen shot function.

I took some screen shots of another sim - and had it running at 1.5 SS for the shots, and their size also was 1536x1536.

IL-2's were taken with no super-sampling, and they are the same 1536x1536.

Would lead me to believe Oculus has set the screen shot size for this feature.

Dash Panel??

Yes you bring up Dash panel in the game by pressing the Oculus Button.

Click on screenshot ( on right hand side of menu).

There will be a 5 second countdown, close Dash during the countdown.

Screen shot will be snapped after 5 second countdown.

Oculus Button- new to me...😧

On your Touch controller or on the original remote they used to come with.

You would need to use one or the other to interact with the Dash panel.
