I made this skin for a friend. It is a tribute to Erich Brunotte which unfortunately lacks online reference or documentation. Any ways he really liked it and I decided to share it with the rest of the IL2 Community.

PS. The skin includes the swastika which is covered for the forum

Nice, but there is zero evidence that JG 51 D-9s any unit emblems painted on their planes. That was only a thing with JV 44.

Also, you please need to hide the images with the swastikas in them.

Fw 190 D9, 'Red 2' of JG300, Germany 1945, pilot unknown. This skin is semi-historical and based on impressions from a progression of 'Red 2' aircraft that flew with JG300, presumably due to losses and subsequent replacement. It is depicted in RLM colours and camo patterns prevalent at this time.

I have tried to tone down the steel like reflections and polished aluminium to more resemble unpolished aluminium. Also I wanted to get more of a dust/dirt haze on the paint without introducing a metallic or a polished sheen. I did not want to clean up, I think it should actually be dirtier. This aircraft is on the losing side of a conflict being fought during the winter months of '44/45.

I'll do the other skin

I have to look for the registrations and serial numbers of the other Tempests who participated in this fight. I have the book on Chris Shore's 2TAF.

I'm going to be away for 2 days, but I'm going to start early next week.
There is an error in the text of Claes who speaks of October when this fight took place on February 28, 1945

Hi Julian,

Claes Sundin has it here:

Feldwebel Wolfgang Polster, 11./JG 26, Plantl√ľnne/Germany, February 24, 1945.

Many thanks. The similarity indeed struck me. Not because I doubt the skills of Mr. Claes Sundin, but because both Y 15 and Y 10 use yellow for their numbers although Y 15 (Genth) is supposed to be a 12th squadron plane and Y 10 (Polster) is an 11th squadron plane.

Until now I was of the understanding that color code for the squadrons inside an Abteilung went in the sequence white, black (or red), yellow, blue. That means in theory 9sqn (white), 10sqn (black),  11sqn (yellow),  12sqn (blue).

Maybe someone with more inside knowledge for JG 26 can answer that, or it is simply the case that Genth on that particular day (28th Feb 1945) simply flew a plane from 11th squadron on "loan".

Hello @sevenless
I'm with you on the color of the squads
Which is correct, and I do not doubt the information from Mr. Claes Sundin and the profiles that you see from other authors, but in this case I think Mr. Sundin is confused by the color he uses on the fw 190 D9s with respect to the squads they represent.
It is my opinion, just as I am the one who is confused, I am not an expert on this subject.

I needed to check my reference for everything Fw190. Focke Wulf Fw 190 Volume 3 - Classic 20 - Smith & Creek.

There you find on page 822 this plane below. So clearly 11./JG 26 used yellow numbers, which means the sketch of Claes Sundin for yellow 10 is correct.¬†Now I¬īm up to try to find out what the standard colour for 12./JG 26 was before disbandment end of march¬†1945.

Given the fact that the whole III. Gruppe (9-12th squadron) was disbanded on 25th march and the CO Walter Krupinski and the SqLdr 12./JG 26 Karl Schrader left for flying Me 262s with JV 44, I think there is a distinct likelihood that yellow 15 (Genth) was indeed an 11th squadron plane on "loan", which was lost on 28th February.

I think it is the one you did here:

I think I leave this here for your consideration. Also a scan from Smith&Creek. Unique in so far that it shows the only D9 unit which fielded the R4M rockets operationally.

No luck so far to dig out a 12th squadron JG 26 Dora crate with blue numbers. Indeed no pic found for 12th squadron 190s at all. Only blue numbered Dora I was able to get hold of is this sketch. Dunno how accurate that is though:

The JaPo book lists W.Nr 210955 as Blue 10  of 4/JG 26 (loss lists, page 200 JaPo Vol.1) shot down by British AA, at Vremde, (4 NM SE, Antwerp)

8/JG 26 are shown as having blue numbers in May 1945, (profiles on page 424 JaPo Vol.2 ,but no Black/Whit bands, the numbers have a thin white outline.)

Blue 10 jg 26.jpg

Very nice model build based on that machine here. I think however the blue colour is not dark enough, otherwise very nice 1:32 scale :

Die Abgasspuren wurden mit stark verd√ľnnter √Ėlfarbe lasierend (zuerst wei√ü, dann schwarz) aufgespr√ľht und mit einem Pinsel streifenf√∂rmig - wie √∂lhaltiger Schmauch - heruntergezogen. Beachte die zus√§tzlich aufgebrachte Nietstruktur.
