Alternative for Pacific Theatre after Bodenplatte

Alternative for "Pacific" after Bodenplatte

Right, disregarding a one-off Ki-43 escort mission to Guadalcanal, you would only get Zeros on the Japanese side - that's a problem!

Midway: Only A6M2 vs. Wildcats and maybe Buffalos (which plays like a sluggish Wildcat)

Where's the variety you mentioned in another recent post of yours? All gone for the sake of A6M vs. Wildcat? With Papua & New Guinea 1942/43 you'd get three distinctly different fighters per side. Not everyone shares our common interest in an Asiatic-Pacific Theatre themed pack - limiting the player to one fighting style per side is a great risk!

That's the nature of the beast -PTO is quite different from other theaters in a variety of ways, including the nature of the combat.

The plane set for Solomons early/Guadalcanal is basically the same as Midway. So with that plane set plus carriers it yields a large bang for the buck.

New Guinea is great in it's way, and sports a variety of mission types which is an advantage...but the smartest move is the Zeke/Wildcat plane set first.

Not only that: If the fighter-veryions are chosen wisely, they can also used on different theaters.

Use an erly Lightning and you could also make an MTO-bird out of it.

Use a carefully-chosen B-25 version and you can use it ony pretty much any front/ theater there is.

Out of the aircraft I propose for a Papua & New Guinea 1942/43 scenario, the P-40K-1 and P-39D are reusable on the Eastern Front. :good:

My top two choices would be Berlin, as I would like to be able to get all the way to the end of the war on the Eastern front, and Talvisota, as the subject of Finland's place in the war is fascinating to me.

If they are going to do another eastern front title then it should start from the beginning with Barbarossa...

It would be demanding for BlackSix, if i understod corectly correct data is hard to fined for ground war and unit movments

On east i would like 1945 DLC and then later fill in if posible with maps, most airplanes would be then in game to have from start to end east front using existing maps, now vvs is still missing late war airplanes.

In 2017(?) I was so damn happy when BoBP was announced instead of pacific war and I would still prefer anything else but pacific war. No idea why this theatre is so unattractive to me.

Bobp was a desperate move to get more prople in.

All the talk of having budget to do this and that , almost every second sentence when Jason talks abotut what to do or not.

All this time I have no idea if the sale was a success.

Anyway I wonder about what next, it got to top this, did they play their ace too early?

I do not care much personally for late war planes , and not at all with a gameset without bombers.

But I understand why they did it. if this is the only way to bring in money, someone tell me how to top this? I am conserned.

For me this has been a waiting game, hoping for something of interest. Excellent in every way I admit. Pacific was my greatest hope

I fully agree with all that, however, making any choice for the next expansion will always be difficult, the team at the moment is still working on the current modules so it is hoped there is at least enough money coming in so far to keep the bills paid, going forward who knows.

Each module seems to run for at least two years, that is quite some time, how do you decide what will be popular and keep people interested from the multitude of thoughts the community shares with you in these forums, not to mention the Russian one, and be able to keep enough money coming in to at least break even on some and be able to accept some losses on others?

The longest part of these projects it would seem are the maps, even if you can use the existing aircraft for any new theatre and save some money there you still need to keep the team employed on something else at the same time as hoping that the new map will be a success, glad I do not have to make those two year decisions, I also get fed up with hearing the same tired old budget speech, however, we can just make a choice, buy or not depending on what you like, for us the cost of each module is very cheap and our job does not depend on the outcome, for them and their families it is a real life choice.

Uber planes though are not the solution, if we go that way then we will have to do a small module for each conflict from where Bodenplatte finishes to the modern day and cherry pick only the very best from each, interesting I guess in a way, however, not for me though and would leave the users of this series with very little in the way of any real immersive simulation/game to keep our interest.

Fix the problems that currently exist and add new content to the existing modules and build a truly modern day successor to the old game is how it needs to go, chasing the rainbow looking for that pot of gold will not provide the riches you crave, mind you doing it just for love is not a solution either, dammed if you do, dammed if you do not as it is impossible to satisfy everyone.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Yes New Guinea is really a gem for me, it will make me forget PTO theatre for a while

If the next one will be Pacific, New Guinea would be nice.

If we are going to stay in Europe, making the northern sector of the Eastern front (Leningrad, Karelia, Petsamo) would be good.

Interesting the Battle of France is the most requested. That would be a neat expansion. Especially if they did more French planes.

I'd love to see the French bombers.

I hope it is PTO (Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands Campaign). There is some landmass to use and its a long theatre so a amplitude of A/C can be used from both sides including potential crossusage of ETO, MTO and PTO.

2nd would be Battle of Baguette, German planes are already there more or less and can be used with rather small changes to existing models. French need to be created from scratch and will be rather unuseable after that installment.

MTO/North Africa would be nice but might be in TF territory...

Put me down for flushing out the Eastern Front with earlier or later scenarios. I honestly will be happy no matter where they go next but the Soviet front has become my favourite.

I vote for Greece & Crete & Malta etc.   We get Italian aircraft,  a couple of carriers, Mosquitos, Beauforts and maybe even gladiators.  Also lots of anti shipping missions and torpedos.

Okay guys, I don’t want this thread to become a place where people post hostile comments about CloD, but sorry, I don’t believe these battles are happening in IL-2 GBs anytime soon. First of all, Battle of Britain: been done to death. A pretty good version with virtually every single plane is in IL-2 Cliffs of Dover.

For Malta, likely to happen in TF 6.0 after the Tobruk expansion. BTW, no TF 6.0 means no flying a Swordfish against the Bismarck or Taranto Harbour. 😢😢😢 Highly unlikely the Bismarck would be included in IL-2 GBs.

Greece, Crete, and France: not really sure, but BoF is more likely to be in CloD than Greece and Crete.

I mean so what, who cares if the devs don’t do particular battles as I’m sure that there are many battles that Jason would like to do, but they just don’t have enough resources to do it. In recent patches, Svalbard, Frank Josef land, and Donbass maps have been added to IL-2 1946. Adding Svalbard and Franz Josef maps to IL-2 GBs would be a complete waste of resources. Let’s make the devs spend their resources on battles like the Pacific, Eastern front (TFS is not going to these places) that haven’t been done before/in a long time, than making them spend resources on something another IL-2 team has done or wants to go to in the near future.

I voted for Berlin, but Spain would be a close second choice.

Or how about something a bit more specific:

Year of the Jets

Campaign missions from April 1944 to VE Day

Ar234 Blitz

Me262 Schwalbe

He162 Salamander

Only a few units flew these aircraft, like Commando Nowotny and the sole He162 unit that surrendered at Leck in 1945 (only 1 confirmed kill, a Tempest or was it a Mosquito?)

Thinking on, perhaps some more of the less well known roles, Westland Lysander SOE ops. Air sea rescue Walrus, Catalina. Did Po2s ever do rescue missions or partisan supply?

Now that's a lot of development work...

I don't care what TF has done or might do in the future.  I like the GB game engine a lot better.  And I'd like to see things like BoB, Italy and North Africa done by the GB dev team.

I voted for France because it would tie in better with how the eastern Front was developed. It will also bring in French planes as well.

Spain is another good choice as well. Very interesting scenario. It isn't technically WWII, so it would be a break from the narrative (outside of Flying Circus).

The net best not listed is the Asian France (China). But after the pacific, it may be a little anticlimactic in comparison. Plus Pacific campaign/ map expansion would be in order as well. ore ship types would also be interesting additions to the pacific. There is only so much they can develop at one time.

I agree with the new graphics engine solution, it will probably be necessary to get Carrier Flight Deck operations to work.  As of this minute we do not have operable torpedoes in game and those are a definite necessity for any Pacific era scenario they decide to create. In the Kuban open water the Ju-88, He-111 and A20 would be carrying them if they worked. I agree that New Guinea is the one area they can do at this time so we can have a Allies vs. Japan campaign.  Jason is a smart man and he may already have the new game engine in the works that can get the things done this one can't to bring us one kick ass USN vs. IJN in the vast Pacific.

Cheers

How about:

IL2: The War of the Bombers, 1942-45

Allies play as 8th AF in Liberators and Fortresses with escort P38, P47 and P51

Axis as LW with Fw190D9, (Ta152?) Me 109G & K models, Me410, Me163, Me262.

Several of these aircraft are already complete too.

If possible also a night war between Lancasters and Halifax bombers using chaff, Window and other ECM like H2S, MONICA and ARCHIE vs LW night fighters using SN2 Lichtenstein and FuG 227 radars and SCHRAGE MUSIK cannon.

Logical as this is the only drawback is : Considering this is a Russian company, what's in it for the Russian/VDV enthusiast? Although a flyable TB3 and Pe8 would be awesome!

But then again, we have CLOD, we are talking Pacific Battles now, so....

Agreed, there is no need to abandon any scenario just because it has been done in any other title, each team brings their own theater to the players and their

particular game engine does it in a way that best suits its own strengths and weaknesses.

I have various titles, like many here, I think it fair to say we all enjoy the variety it provides, we will have certain aircraft only available to some titles and not others

and some might be better or worse but like any art form each team has its own style so to speak.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Not many people will have time for an eight to ten hour round trip. How could this be translated into a viable computer game?

Who says it has to be 8 hour long missions? I remember playing The Mighty 8th and even 1946 and I don't ever remember flying 8h long mission. They could always do Normandy and have B-17s and B-24s bombing beaches and other instillation.

I'm willing to sacrifice a little accuracy to have bombers in-game. I had plenty of fun flying bombers in B-17 The Mighty 8th and Il2 1946, would love to have that experience again in a modern engine.

If that's SP mode it could be done easily I think. Have some kind of strategic map mode with icons on the map of your flight and your allies, with ability to accelerate time up to smth like x128. You could select whether your plane follows waypoints (follows escorted bombers) or you could set a course, select engine mode and it will fly straight. When enemy aircraft is within a certain range you will automatically get back to flight mode. Even with heavy enemy flak you should be able to use strategic map and accelerate time, however the possibility of being hit by flak will be factored in. That way you can fly whatever range your plane is capable of. I remember this feature was present in Rowan's Battle of Britain. If a 19 year old game had this feature I don't see why GB can't have it today.

An alternative would be to play engine launching, taxying, taking-off and go to a waypoint, then, it will time-jump to another waypoint near the front, up to the target and then, once again to another waypoint time-jump to near the base for approach and landing. What do you think?

Yep!

Great idea too.

Sounds like Silent Hunter series gestion of transfer. Cruising from Brest to New-York or Montevideo is the best illustration. It normally takes 10+ days. I never took so long in front of my screen.

However, as soon as something happens, time acceleration backs automatically to x1
