Just a curious qusetion ... When I fly the server and no one else is on (which is most of the time :( ) the only AI that I can see is my own side (absolutely no enemies) ... Why is that?

Beez~

hi i think, but may be wrong, but AI is triggered by you entering certain points.

hope this helps

What server did you fly on?

At the coconut server the enemy AI fighters are pretty up high. The high is marked on the map. It is about 2500-3000m.

Hi Beez

It depends which server you are talking about, and situations can change depending on the map but I have found 3 aggressive Pfalzs at 3k on Jasta 5 and an FDr1 south of their base over the sea, on JG1 there are usually a Camel, Spad, Pfalz and an FDr1 that you bump into reasonably quickly, just remember that they will want to gain alt before venturing into enemy territory in some cases. And on Coconuts campaign server Camels and Spads can be high on patrol or low attacking ground targets after crossing the lines high, both sides usually have a presence near Aumetz. Pfalzs and FDr1s are usually high on patrol, I haven't seen any doing ground attacks, but that is part of the fun, trying to find out where they are. On Coconuts server you even get messages saying where is being attacked or if the enemy is near an airfield.

There are sometimes clues on the mission objective map, it might show patrol areas or assets that need protecting.

I'd recommend and use all 3 servers, a lot of thought and hard work has been done by the mission designers and I don't think they have made it difficult to find the ai, but it shouldn't be too easy either, or you might as well just fly in QMB.

Hope this helps

Jasta 5 i think. there are many servers for FC now they are a bit hidden but i know of about six server. some have really aggressive AI, or feel free to join The Irregulars FC discord channel, fly most nights GTM 20h00 onwards, no squadrons just a place to meet up, and arrange to fly, here is the link, all are welcome.

https://discord.gg/W9RV46p

There will be two voice channels there for sunday night's event, one axis one allied.

Just wanted to let you guys know that we have taken in your feedback regarding Jasta 5s new Volga Twist mission and are pushing an update out to the server with the following changes:

- Airfields and air starts moved closer together and to the action points in general
- Number of air superiority zones reduced to two to concentrate action.

- Convoy ground routes have been shortened and moved closer into the front to make them easier to find.

- Fire barrels and windsocks added to airfields to increase findability.

Thanks,

J5_Matthias

Map updates pushed to the server

Few other things I forgot to mention above.

- Capture zones are now marked with 4 burning fires in the center (I was unaware of the size diference of the capture flags in IL2 and thus why they were hard to see)

- Airstarts lowered from 1500m to 750m and temperature raised to 6 C.

-  New airstarts added which garauntees two different close entry points into the capture zones (2-3 minute flight at most)

hi to be honest the event has a problem the europe group start at 19:00 gmt but end about 2 to 3 hours latter, then there is a gap where people come online see no one or 1 person online and leave, i am thinking of makeing a second US start time but do not know what time to choose and i dont want to complicate things, so in a bit of a quandry. anyone have any ideas ?

thanks to all that flew last night it was a blast !

If we get the Dolphin and D.VII this week, it might get busy on Sunday. We may still be another week or two out, though.

The D7 has a strong following (the D7F is arguably the best overall plane in the game). Heck, we might even see Mamochka showing up.

For some reason the mission that Im flying right now does not have the Fokker D.VII and the Dolphin. Is it a server bug?

Edit: Now it has. The mission crashed and now I'm flying a D.VII

It was an interesting night with a number of good fights. Salute to all who attended!

The Sopwith Dolphin has a bit more bite than how I remembered it. The D.VII, on the other hand, is bound to fade away as soon as the F makes it entry. The SPAD and Dr.I are each other's opposites, but both feel very good in a fight doing what they do best. Almost inexplicably, I still love the Pfalz above all others. Maybe it's because I got her nerfed in the first place.

The Camel is, in my opinion, problematic. Especially in the hands of an accomplished pilot such as @SeaW0lf, who knows how to make full use of her capabilities as an energy fighter. We'll revisit the topic once we get the Fokker D.VIIF.

Doubt it will matter since it won't be much faster than the Camel down low.  Maybe you can extend above 2500m.

This indeed depends on how low you're willing to take the fight. I do expect you will be able to maintain your energy much better than a Camel above 3000m.

If we have to crown a King of "Fast Food" Dogfighters, I think the Camel can already rest easy (unless we ever get something even better, such as the Bentley Camel or Siemens-Schuckert D.IV). I still have my hopes on the Fokker D.VIIF turning out to be the best overall scout, but we'll have to wait and see.

I agree and I was expecting the D7 to be trounced by the Camel. Damn, she is untouchable right now. She is good to train uneven matchups like 1X2 or even 1X3 depending on the opposition.

But I like the D7 here better than in ROF. I have better FFB and it gained some speed (as all the planes ported to BOX). The engine sounds great and the cockpit is looking gorgeous. I'm expecting the D7F to be... Spectacular. But the Camel will continue to be a beast. I’m not sure at altitude, because the Camel aces in ROF used to say that she would start to lose her punch around 2.000m if I recall correctly. If the FM is the same, she should lose some juice the same here.

The predicament we are in is that the nerfed Camel is on the opposite extreme, being trounced by the Dr1 and climbing like an Albatros D2 and a Pup. In my opinion they would have to review the FM and get somewhere in between, somewhat faster than the Dr.1 (which is already slower than it should aparently, since Chill is saying his Dr.1 is not likely to lose any speed with the new rotary engines). And this is where things get complicated. It appears that they don't have availability to make big tweaks. Perhaps when Chill test his Le Rhone and Clerget we can push the FM reviews of both the Camel and the Dr.1 (the latter if necessary). And I bet the devs will be interested as well, because these two planes were the bread and butter of any furball server. The 2014 patch emptied the furball servers overnight and Flying Circus was usually packed throughout the day. They deserve care. Every plane deserves, but to leave these two unattended and off-beat is bad for business.

I tested the Dolphin after and I kind of liked it :biggrin:Lots of power and energy.

Still not flown them.

I'll do it when the map gets here - pointless flying high altitude air superiority fighters down low in a furball.

Then the wait for the SE5a.

Having realistic online campaigns, where bombers/recce are escorted at 'high' altitude', gives CP pilots the option to 'win' by refusing to be drawn down. The flip side is allied forces get to do the opposite. Obviously it would be nice if each plane was as accurately modelled in its performance as possible but ultimately planes should not be nerfed/buffed to suit 'fast-food' servers imho.

The main issue here is that Central has no high altitude recon machines available in Volume I (or in RoF for that matter), which is historically accurate for mid to late 1918. The Halberstadt CL.II can more or less serve this purpose with its 200hp overcompressed engine modification, though it was never really used as such. This was mainly a low altitude reconnaissance, trench attack grenade bomber and escort fighter (escorting itself and other Schlasta machines). The fact that it is equipped with an overcompressed engine is accurate by mid to late 1918 terms, as all Mercedes planes were, but ironically the Central plane in Volume I which needs it the least.

What should happen are Entente recon machines flying over Central side at mid to high altitude, of which the Bristol Fighter was one (under certain configurations, as it was mostly an escort fighter). They can then be dived on by Fokker D.VIIF patrolling their own lines at 4000m and above.

It’s not exactly the most exciting period of the war (I’m partial to Bloody April 1917), but it’s certainly a precursor to post-war fighter combat.

I never liked the model of having the cream before the pudding (late war kit before the early and mid-war stuff). It makes more sense to me to feed the planes in their natural order, for reasons that are obvious to me. But then I'm frequently reminded most players are SP and I guess they just wait until the full set is available before playing.

I understand why they went with the most popular Camel and Dr.I first, though in the current (moderately) optimistic interpretation of the Camel and (very) pessimistic rendition of the Dr.I, they are not the “romantic dogfighting match” as portrayed by Snoopy fighting the Red Baron. Of course we’re still in early access, but it’s certainly not what most of us were expecting.

Bloody April is far less popular in the mainstream, though the Albatros D.II / D.III and Halberstadt D.II match far better against the likes of the Sopwith Pup, Nieuport 11 / 17 and SPAD VII. Most of the Entente pilot losses suffered in Bloody April were due to rushed training and fighting behind enemy lines, rather than inferior machines.

Hopefully for Volume 2, I suppose.
