Aermacchi MC202 'Folgore'

This is an MC202 ser. 8 unit with a livery based on the Aermacchi C.202 prototype, MM.445.

It was painted in the same three - tone scheme previously used for the majority of the Macchi C.200's with the typical 'poached egg' blotches.

This livery was applied was during the time it was undergoing military evaluation at Guidonia in the autumn of 1940, prior to it's introduction into service.

It was the shark teeth that got me interested back in the very late 1950's.

When i had my first plastic model kit of one, Airfix or Revell i am not sure.

Exactly the same pull for me as well... mid - 60's in my case. The teeth were the key! (Airfix for sure in my case, I was addicted!!).

@Raptorattacker   Most of mine were Airfix as they were cheaper.

Only collected allied aircraft, which all hung from my bedroom ceiling. 😄

I was still making them in the mid '60's as well. 5 yrs old when i had my first one in 1958, a Hurricane.

Glue everywhere and never painted them for first couple of years.  😃

Sounds like a VERY familiar story does that. I couldn't be bothered with paint either, I just wanted to get 'em MADE!!. Me Grandad then conjured up a Sopwith Camel with full paint job plus a Handley Page HP 42 in all aluminium. That was IT for me... I couldn't stop trying to make planes that looked as realistic as that!! I guess skinning in here is a natural progression really, AND you can fly 'em afterwards!!

Same here buddy, get one done then wait impatiently for my parents to fork out for another one.  😄

No thought of painting any of them. Your grandad spurred you on to modelling greatness then Raptor.

Which lead to your skinning expertise, which i am very gratefull for. 👍

Supermarine Spitfire APR-IX Serial: MK334 (AP-K)
"Icefire"

Squadron Leader Stèphane Gelécul
14 Squadron, RCAF
Port Burwell, Nunavut, 1943

During the war, there were large numbers of RCAF fighter and patrol aircraft actively guarding the Eastern and Western coasts of Canada and Newfoundland, due to the growing Nazi threat and the attacks on Pearl. Starting first with Kittyhawks and Hurricanes, Fighter Command then switched to the more capable Spitfire IX.

The RAF allowed the release of 24 factory fresh Mk.IX's to Canada, to participate what was called "Operation Icefire".

"APR", standing for "Artic Reconnaissance and Patrol", meant converting these aircraft to Winter standards, and the white-snow covered livery. Due to this, they were nicknamed several names, Icefire's, Snowbat's, APR's, APR-IX's and after one of the predators of the Northern Regions ~ The Ookpik or Snow Owl.

During the op, nine Icefire's were lost, due to fire and accidents on the airfield, with the remaining 18 shipped back to Europe after the operation had ended.

This particular livery belonged to the Squadron Leader, Stèphane Gelécul. During Gelécul's time in the region, he became very involved with the local culture and legends, embracing the label the locals had named the Spitfires and even adorned an image of an Ookpik on his aircraft, to honor the local legendary animal.

The entire operation was deemed a failure and no engagements were recorded by the APR-IX except one, an attack on German U-boat U-537 off the Labrador coast, in which Gelécul and his wingman took part.

The propeller blades look completely different shapes on the real one and the 3d model.

At least some of that is attributable to angle. The game prop is set to flight. The original photo is set to full feathered. If you look at the blade on the far right, especially, it is nearly parallel to the ground/flat. Bit of an optical illusion in the original.

I believe the props were more often than not made from wood as well, due to material shortages. I'm sure I read that somewhere...

Thanks Rap,

marvelous skin and beautiful work.

As always you get 4 thumps up:good::good::good::good:

Well done!

There is a little spelling error on template v2 for the D-9 on the tail:

It reads

Beim Schlappen Hohenruder nach unten drücken

it should be

Beim Schleppen Höhenruder nach unten drücken.

Rap i dont know if you saw this one but  i think this template has the fix!

Thanks again for that though Yankee.

Hi Rap,

no, that was not my intention. Sorry for that. I meant for future skins.

And with that spelling error it was just there with the offical template. I contacted IDCP for that "issue".

Not a big one but i thought i will mention it and draw his attention!

Thanks buddy!!!!

I know, I know. Don't worry, I aint pi**ed off. I just hate it when I know something aint right on something is all. I might just leave it then if no-one minds and alter it for future ones, like you suggest?

Phew! DONE it for the 'up-and-comings'!! Thanks again Yankee :salute:

Hi Rap,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you are using the original template then it doe snot have the fix for the layer masks around the texture joins.  Basically the original template carried over an error that had the layer mask being too big and when giving some issues around texture join areas.

Your skin seems to suffer from this problem.😯

I shall address the problem without further ado and thanks for the heads - up M!

Hang on a minute, I'm using v2, does that suffer from this? Is it a case of... ahh, I KNOW what you're talking about now. I was fiddling around with a different spinner spiral and I was WONDERING what was going on. Is there a 'fix' imminent then Martin (or a workaround)?

V2 should not suffer from this and it is around the underside of the nose and the spinner that showed the problem most.  V3 only fixes a spelling mistake for the stencilling on the tail.  To see if your skins are affected, load the skin in the viewer and zoom out to see if lines appear on the nose underside.  Also zoom in on the spinner, if you can see a distinct black line, or join line then you need to expand your spinner texture a few pixels.

Basically if you use the existing RLM 76 base layer and spinner size as a guide, you should be OK.

I had a look at your skin in Photoshop and it has the wrong layer mask as a base.  To see what I mean look at the alpha layer compared to the diffuse (main) texture.

EDIT:  I have checked the official template and it is labelled v2 and does have the fixed layer mask size.
