JadeMonkey ,I 've said before how much I like your various missions etc.....and am delighted with someone finally posting a Spitfire campaign, but I am ashamed to admit I am have a problem with mission#2 : I can't seem to get gol&^^%$**#@ed plane out of the hanger! I use rudder pedals & brakes & it seems to me I remember reading that the Spit didn't have these, did they? If not do I assign left & right brakes to two key stroke commands or what? Perhaps a more seasoned Spitfire driver can give me some advice on taxiing around the several obstacles 7 getting out to the runway?

BTW I tried autopilot once & he too ran into the side of the hanger...

Blitzen, the Spitfire uses a single brake lever which affects the wheels by use of the rudder - same as the Soviet birds, I think. So you need just one button for brakes on your HOTAS somewhere, the toe brakes do not work.  Then while pressing it the rudder will affect which side gets most braking. It also has no tailwheel lock. You should taxi with the rpm lever fully forwards.  Probably best to practice for a few minutes on an open runway first... ;)

Unreasonable is right. There are no separate right/left brakes, just hold the brake button and use the rudder to turn like the soviet planes.

Regarding the engine power to taxi, you shoudn't use much throttle, but prop pitch needs to be at 100% to be able to control the plane.

See images for cockpit reference.

Hello there

Thanks JM for this campaign, very intresting missions. I passed 4 missions already but i think found some issue in the second mission. I couldn't find bombers throuth all the way to the Krymskaya but when i was back on the way to base I found 9 bombers PE2 on the runway of Staro-Nizhne-Steblievskaya preparing to takeoff. But they wonn't tookoff. Maybe something wrong whith waypoints in Mission editor.

Hi @Spuks, are you playing without icons by any chance?

The Pe-2s take off when you approach their airfield, and your mission os to cover them.

Are you following the map's waypoints instead? I might have to clarify that in the briefing.

Hi Spuks,

I had the same problem first time I flew mission No2 with icons turned off. Second time I flew it, after take off I used auto pilot to take me to the airfield where the Pe2's were waiting to take off, after that there were no problems.

Cheers

Hi JM,

Yes i'm playing without icons, on expert mode. In biefing says Take off from Popovicheskaya airfield.Head south and join a formation of 9 x Petlyakov 2 headed towards Krymskaya. So I was flying by waypoints and couldn't find those bombers until on the back way i reached Staro-Nizhne-Steblievskaya and saw them on runway. That is why i was thinking about some issue there. Maybe waypoint is too far fom PE2 airfield or might be to clarify that in the briefing. Anyway i had some fun fight whith couple 109 ;)

Cheers

Hi Keeno,
I will try it again go throth this mission, maybe i will be lucky to defend those bombers in flight. Becouse when i was playing las time i saw message in left corner that some where is going fighting, but didin't know where. On back way i met couple 109 so i had some fun and mission wasn't so empty.

Cheers

To be specific, you have to be within 8Km of the lead Pe2 for them to take off.

I'll add more detail to the briefing for the next release. Thanks for the feedback!

Just wanted you to know I am enjoying this campaign.  I have found it challenging in spots - not a just a kick the tires and fly-off to become a hero.  Keep up the good work!

Hi JM, that would help, or you could move the NOICON proximity trigger to the map waypoint track. Also the waypoint altitudes in feet need fixing.

Also, in mission 3, the wind is in the almost same direction as the one all the AI take off. At 11 m/s there's no way aircraft would be taking off downwind.

But thanks for an excellent campaign, we're flying it coop and enjoying it.

Jade,

Just flew the first two missions and loved them, although taxing the Spit is a bit difficult; however, your advice helped. Keep up the good work.

Jade,

I meant to mention that in mission two the waypoints don’t correspond to the map   providing you with the general direction and target of the flight.  Was this done on purpose?

Hi Jade_Monkey,

your Spit campaign looks very promising. Unfortunately, I am not able to trigger Pe-2 start in Mission 2. Please tell me the name/location of the airfield where Pe-2 waiting to take off.

I purposely flew near those airfields:

Andreevskaya

Ivanovskaya

Stario-Nizhne-Steblievskaya

Dneprovskaya

Novovelichovskaya

Abinskaya

but no Pe-2 there and via LSHIFT-F2 I can still see they are on the ground ....

Thanks

After escaping from the hangar and taking off I joined with the other two orbiting Spits. Eventually they will lead you to the Pe-2s' airfield and trigger their takeoff. It's not directly on the waypoint course and I can't remember its name but it's southwest from the Spits' field. Cheers.

It's Stario-Nizhne-Steblievskaya for anyone else wondering.

I added an icon to the map and a location to the briefing, it will be there next time I re-release the campaign.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi JM, loving the campaign but am stuck with mission 3. What's the secret to get the rest of the Spits heading to target? No matter what I do they circle the airfield endlessly. In the end I've got bored of them and headed to the target on my own; first try- disintegrated by  Fw190 😖. Second try, kept a better lookout and shot down the spotter! Dead chuffed with myself but he'd put a bullet through my oil cooler so I avoided the escort and headed home. Couldn't quite make a friendly field but belly landed safely a few hundred yards short but on my side of the lines. Very disappointed to find that I've got to do it all again. How do I get those guys to head off to the target? Cheers.

@216th_Cat, let me check the editor for the rules and ill get back to you. I know it sucks to fly a long mission to have to re-do it again.

Off the top of my head it's usually triggered by wingman taking off and them following the waypoints. Are you playing icons off by any chance?

Yes, always play with icons off. My wingman has trouble taking off in this mission despite me issuing commands to him.

I finally cracked it! To get the squadron to undertake the mission firstly you have to wait for your wingman to join you on the runway, then make sure that he takes off with you. Once you are both in the air the orbiting Spits will head off to target. Didn't get the spotter plane this time, someone else did, but I drove a 190 into the ground by making the pilot dizzy . Now on to mission 4! Loving the campaign JM - thanks a million for making it. :salute:

Cheers.
