@ICDP is really breathing some new life into these older planes! This is a personal skin I am working on with the awesome new La-5FNs2 template!

It was brought to my attention that I idiotically have the engine stencil mirrored.  The little diamond with the logo should be flipped on all 4 locations.  I idiotically used the only profile that got it wrong as a  guide.  So flip that flipping logo.

Sorry.

Still a big work in progress but this will be the next 4K skin update from me.  Rivet, lines and details are done for both diffuse, alpha and Normal maps.

If you were flying on CombatBox yesterday and you were wondering what "Hey A-20 guys, you´re cool as F!" meant, here is your answer:

It didn´t end very well for me, but being "As cool as F" more than made up for it. 😎

Thank you @-[HRAF]Misi, @9./JG27DefaultFace, @87th_Blade for having me and of course @ElTorro and all the others involved for the cover! You guys rock! :pilot::drinks:

Lily got slapped by Nazi AAA over Stalingrad. Port wing and aileron shredded and engine damaged. Wingman making sure she gets home safe

She can sure fly 'em. But she can't park 'em without further carnage...

Those P47s explode violently if you hit them in the right spot. I took out two with a Me109K4 and a 30mm MG151 MotorKanone and flew through the fireball of debris! Wish I'd recorded that. It was a WOW moment.

This game is awesome and exceeds my expectations with every update.

Ground attack, bomb carrying Antons.

Nothing says you're losing like using a fighter as a bomber because you can no longer protect your bombers with the fighters. By 1943 all LW aircraft had to be multi-role. Their multi-engine bomber-Geschwaders having been all but destroyed.

As if being a LW pilot wasn't a difficult enough job you now are now Jack-of-all-trades and doing the work of multiple pilots and crew. No wonder they resorted to munching handfuls of Pervetin tablets, despite official government attempts (half-arsed, like our 'lockdown') to limit and even ban the drug.

It was more a case of the fact the Fw190A was a better ground pounder than one of these.

It's also forgetting the point that the post right above yours shows a P47D loaded for ground attack.  Those Allied air forces really must have been having it rough by late 1944 😜

Man that is sexy! I love how you immerse yourself into each one of these and get all the little missing details. You must have learned so much more about these planes while working on all these skins and templates. Excellent work as always!

You must consider the bigger picture and look at the different circumstances of the allies and the LW.

The allies could have all the fighter bombers they liked (and they did like them) because they had

  • air superiority in every aspect excepting high scoring aces.
  • a lot of targets to hit in support of their advance.
  • plenty of pilots and losses of men and materiel replaced quickly
  • large quantities of medium and high level bombers destroying the LWs aircraft factories, synthetic fuel plants and airfields.
  • between 10 and as high as 20 to 1 advantage over the Luftwaffe at times.
  • more comprehensively trained pilots and aircrew.
  • a policy of resting aircrews periodically and using them as experienced instructors for the replacements
  • an uninterrupted fuel supply

The LW, however,

  • was short of pilots, (a shortage beginning as early as Autumn 1940)
  • short of fuel, even Synthetics due to allied bombing.
  • was invested in designs that were fast becoming obsolete or could not be developed further (Ju87 a good example)
  • was supported by an industry not organized on a war footing until 1943 and an aircraft industry riven with rivalries and nepotism
  • was commanded by a drug addicted dilletante
  • had a training infrastructure that was broken, lacking instructors, fuel, suitable airframes and local air superiority to train safely in. (trainers shot out of the sky, loss of pupil, instructor and training plane!)
  • was receiving very poorly trained replacements by late '44/45

The reason Antons were now bombers as it was becoming impossible to train bomber crews (gunners, navigators, radio operators etc) in Germany by late 44/45. Pilot was the only aircrew job left. Hence my assertion that the appearance of an Anton in place of a Heinkel or Dornier at the front was a sign of the dire state of the LW in the last 2 years of the war. Early on the first of these jagbombers were flown by re-roled bomber pilots and crews retrained as pilots as the LW had decided to scrap many of their remaining bombers due to high losses and an inability to replace them. By 1943 all LW aircraft were expected to be multi-role, generally Fighter-bombers  and apart from a few exceptions they largely were.

Thanks to all the Pilots for participating. To the Commanders for the effort made. To the Bombers for hard work under enemy fire. Thanks to all those who are spent on communications, for Discord and the Radio System. A special mention of the programmers of the Mission Nik Voss and Jonny Drift for the excellent programming ... In short, go on like this ...
