Coop Is it working .

I see no servers running . Is coop broken .

It's just that no one is hosting.

 

With the slow rate of missions being put up for download by us mere mortals that don't have time or patience for the mission editor, I suspect this will be the norm for some time.

Sporadic hosting, by a few people.

 

Does that means that coop is broken?   Functionally no, but practically, yes.

The mission editor is not hard to learn and use- that's not the main problem here. There's a template there for Co-Op missions to get started messing about and there's plenty of missions people are chucking together- the main reason you don't see people putting them up is because they first have to play with their routers unlocking ports in order for others to connect. It's not at all an intuitive case of click and join.

I think problem is missing simple list of players waiting in coop lobby and chat for them to interact, i always first check coop before going in df and wait few min as its no way now to know if some one is waiting in coop section to host or play coop, and waiting to fined out is boring there may be 10 ppl like me just checking coop mode at same time as me looking for some coop mission but no way to know that from game (and no one is gona be bothered to post on forum every time he plans to play or host coop), so then i just check it and if there is no coop or coop mission with planes i dont have i just go in df mode insted.

 

Regarding mission builder i think its a small problem as its not as fun as clod or 46 builder, if you need/wont to learn it its not so hard there is planty of good manuals and in few days of forcing your self you can build simple misions for coop, but its BORING as hell compared to previous ones, just making simple flight of 4 airplanes is so complicated compared to previouse ones and then you dont know if something dont work because of bad AI or you forget to add something for them. So i just avoid using it after spending time to learn it as mutch as i can.

But still there is that coop generator by russian players, and you can also just convert any single player or campaign mission in coop, and PWCG can create coops so i dont think mission builder is main problem, as you can have thouse coop missions with some work.

Having a lobby with a chat function, and players list would indeed be a help.

Coop works, I host one every few weeks. Thing is, its not a dedicated server but a simple meetup, so we get started quickly. While the mission runs without password I usually can see people joining in and leaving again.

Edit: Mission editor is a peace of cake in regards of coop

Coop functionality works very well for private games with friends, but until we get a hyperlobby style interface with chat I imagine it will remain dead for pick up groups.

I have to believe that the new function to tag friends in the MP stats interface exists to serve some new MP lobby interface that hasn't been rolled out yet.  Otherwise why bother adding it?

Yep.  I've been hosting for my squad and the coop function works really well.  I've hosted around a dozen players at a time spread across north america and europe  and everything has been smooth and well-behaved.  We've been using SYN_Vander and TX_Tips excellent missions and the DED guys mission generator too.

 

I didn't have a problem with port forwarding and I'm a f*&kwit when it comes to this sort of thing.

 

The mission editor?  Well thats another story.

 

However, without a dedicated coop interface joining a coop for lone-wolves will remain problematic.

Yep - this was always a foregone conclusion.

 

At least we’re not getting the ignorant “we don’t need CoOps” from guys who were not even there in the Hyperlobby days and have no clue of what we speak:

 

I know Jason gets it, so if it doesn’t happen then it’s because it wasn’t plausible. Fingers crossed though.

To second DD_Arthur, I host coops for the BlitzPigs, and we have folks connecting from all over North America, Britain, Europe, and Israel, and it runs smooth as glass, and we have a darned good time doing it.

Why bother?   The co-ops are almost completely dead.    There’s really no point in arguing with people don’t understand what that means.

I'm pretty sure they said a lobby is in the works.

 

Also Syndicate has co ops every Sunday and I think Vander has posted his missions for people to use.

Pretty accurate, maybe add a graphic visualisation of coop rooms - slots and player names in it and that`s it. But with HyperLobby you had an app placed in a corner of your desktop, outside of the game itself, while doing other things ppl do on PCs.

 

Lots of ppl lurking for coops but not in the actual game, instead on the forums if it functions properly and if there are ppl flying. IMO things would improve numerically if the message of coops being available was more widespread, for everybody to see. Certainly I`d like to know in advance when and where a coop beings and I`m there. Works like a charm in simracing.

I would like to see better online game browser, current design significantly reduce coop and mods on missions popularity. I brought this up long time ago... I have awareness that some changes are difficult because game evolved from existing code and redesigning is costly but any way some things like gameplay popularity is essential to game success and survival.  Let's wait for lobby :)

Here is the Hyperlobby as of a few minutes ago with the coop room selected.  None running currently, but it gives those whom have never seen it an idea of what it's like.

 

The chat window is at the bottom in the center.

Ahhh...I miss that.

I miss watching players line up in my mission window,  then a short conversation in chat about what everyone is on the mood for..."Cactus Air Force anyone?"

Let's go!

 

Dammit...I fear we'll never get back there for a few reasons.

Yes I was very surprised when this game decided to do their own lobby . Instead of going  with the very popular hyperlobby . 😂

There is no Hyperlobby equivalent....I'd be happy with something else that shared the same functionality.

Again, might be a tall order. Fingers and toes crossed.

Give it some time and I'm sure you'll figure out why they decided to use a lobby system that everyone who buys the game will see instead of relying on a 3rd party product that not everyone will know about.

HyperLobby was used to solve the absolutely terrible Ubisoft interface that we were saddled with when IL-2 first launched. It became the defacto standard for where the entire community went for multiplayer. The chat room helped build community and encouraged people, myself included, to join coop games, when we might not have otherwise.

 

This generation of IL-2 needs that as well but HyperLobby is a shadow of what it used to be. This time around the in-game multiplayer screen needs to have that functionality built in IMHO. I know Jason knows that and I'm sure if they can do it within a reasonable timeframe, they will. It'll be a boon for multiplayer in general and a big boost to coop.

Let's hope so . The last big patch I was hoping for a much needed overhaul multiplayer experience . To be honest I'm not sure what direction it's heading . If any . Not trying to sound to negative just wishful .

That's indeed very bad news. At its peak (more like 8 years ago)46 on HL had 1500 players logged in at the same time, with 1000+ playing. Happy days gone by.

there were some really good coop missions in il-2 46 back then like the large 32 people ones with lots of bombers and fighter escorts

It'd be dead if nobody played the game or didn't want anything to do with coop.

 

This just isn't the case, there's a lot people playing and that would want to play coop but that can't right now. That isn't what I call "dead" for sure.

What are you talking about?  This game has coop.  Anyone who wants to play coop can play.  But they don't.
