how about honour points or a score system that encourages fun

How about we don't constrain players and strangle the online scene with rules based on a misguided sense of chivalry and fair play?

That would be the easiest, yep.

Or better yet: leave it to the server-admins that run, host and operate the server. Then you could join and accept that the server has a ruleset where everything goes, or you could not join and find some server that disallowed certain things. Much, much easier, and far more constructive. Some of us like the give-no-quarters-ask-for-none way of doing things. We don't usually go to servers that has limitations on vulching, killstealing etc.

Its worked well enough in the past for server admins and the players who use their servers to police themselves so yes leave it to them and their individual rulesets. Imposing certain rules across the board takes away the flexibility of the game for server admins, its like giving a kid a box of lego and then saying "ah yes but you can only build nice houses but no planes, no cars, no spaceships, no ships, no tanks, no guns just houses because thats the right and proper way to play with lego"

maybe im wrong but so far for what i know theres no way to disencourage via score shoulder shooting, more annoying than vulching and besides contrarily to it  unhistorical

or could you point me to a way a server  NOW, in any game, can disencourage shoulder shooting via score?

Thus far more negatives have been listed wrt 'point systems' than positives

Therefore I hope that if they do try to impliment some sort of scoring system beyond kill counts that they make it an option so realistic servers can disable the point system, which based on some of the examples listed here will make for a more realistic experance

You missed the point, with admins online, in the past getting rid of vultures and over the shoulder shooters was policed by them and the other players. It allows for that human interaction, for pilots to confer with each other and establish what happened where your cold hard wired rules will not. What happens to the ground attack pilot or bomber who hits a plane taking off at an airfield objective or the pilot who attacks another aircraft and as he is firing another greedy pilot puts himself in between them getting hit by friendly bullets as he goes for the kill? In the first example the ground attack pilot and bomber are now vultures and the dog fighter becomes an over the shoulder shooter and loses points or gets kicked from the server because his intense 1v1 becomes a gangbang under your hard and fast, hard wired, unforgiving rules.

I'm with Revvin on this one, and not just because he has a picture of Gromit as his avatar. IMHO each server should be able to determine what is acceptable. If someone breaks the rules and gets away with it then it is a failure of the server admin team, not the game. As for shoulder shooting, I'm sure it must have happened from time to time in the real war, especially if it wasn't actually potentially harmful to the lead ship but more like the RAF's formation attacks in the Battle of France, or the Luftwaffe's Defence of the Reich's line abreast strafing runs against the US bomber boxes. The key was to get maximum firepower on a single target and knock that SOB down.

I'd rather support teamplay by e.g. giving people an extra-bonus for clearing a teammates six, flying together in groups or escorting bombers. Many games already do things like this and even though Battlefield-Players are mostly lone-guns, it at least motivates SOME people to actually help you.

Punishment for killing people in a wargame, no matter how unfair it may seem, is neither realistic nor historic. Yes, there have been incidents like that, but they most surely didn't get a medal for letting a crew return to base to bomb your hometown the next day with just the day after.
