I paid for all of black6 campaigns to support the devs but i cant see reasons for this one.

A good scripted campaign takes 300+ hours of work.

If Gambit sells it it will be official and on the store page as a commercial release - meaning that it will be "helping support" the devs dude.

I don't even fly the A-20 but I'd buy it. I view my contribution to be 1 step forward towards a StuG III G collector tank lol.

Thanks...but damn... I wish 300!

My wife keeps saying close to 1000, and if I stop and think about it, average 3 hours a day (some days I'll spend 12 hours, some days 3, a day off here and there)

But figuring 3 hours average over a year...and yeah it took me a year to build this thing...yeah that's pushing 1000 or higher.

Damn.  Blame not having the A-20 for some months and building over half of it with the Pe-2, then going back and changing the AC, adjusting things, tons of testing,  some longer ingress times, a few re-works of missions to mitigate AI issues...more testing and adjusting to mitigate AI issues, on and on.

So there's no scenario where from a dollars and cents standpoint, this endeavor actually pencils out. In the end I make a little something, which is more than I make watching TV, and just tell myself I enjoy it. Which I do...most of the time. So a few bucks for the effort is fine. My main goal is to add to the product and give you guys a compelling campaign to fly...then another, and oh yeah...stay married.

Like I told Jason, if I was a single guy I'd probably not even worry about compensation at all. Fact is, I'm married, I get the sideways looks, the "on the computer AGAIN?" remarks,  and all those hours are hours I'm not doing other things with HER. To be fair, they're also hours I'm not spending doing freelance work or otherwise making supplementary income.  So as the household CFO I need to show her something for the effort in the end. That's my reality.

My other reality...I haven't actually flown in 2 years.

I need to change that.

The Jug campaign should go much quicker for several reasons. Still hundreds of hours, but I think I can cut the build time in half at least, and that's including custom radio calls.

I also have another treat in store for release of BP, but keeping that under wraps for the moment.

All that said, feedback from testers was very good, exactly what I'd hoped for (sorry Sinned)... and the campaign is in the hands of the devs now. :)

Work on logic for the P-47 campaign and the other item I mentioned are well underway.

Yeah AT LEAST 300 hours is what I mean't... so if there is a standard 15 missions that equates to 20 hours a mission.

And yeah man, take a break and just fly for the joy of flying. If you work non-stop you will forget why you are doing what you're doing! I recently took a month off from ALL gaming. Feels good coming back to flying, shooting and racing.

Yeah I should take a breather...brain is always spinning.

I end up writing mission logic while laying in bed.

That's not logical. Get to sleep. 🙂

I know what you mean though. I keep trying to figure things out in any mission I'm working on. I've even dreamed of solutions. So it's not all bad. :salute:

Yeah , that remark made me opt for 5 giveaways on top of my own . Sinned I do not mind straight forward talk . But sometime you got to ask yourself while writing, "am I better off not posting this?"

I personally should have on several occasions, but this remark of yours are mean and well, for all others a not to need to know

Sorry if I'm a bit out of the loop, but do we have an estimated release date? I'm loving the A-20 and this campaign looks great!

I believe Gambit said it's in Jason's hands now, so when they get done with it, we should see it.  Maybe I should send Jason and crew a Round Tuit.

Gears are turning...getting closer.

Goody goody... the moment it's released I'm going for it. Even if I didn't fly the A-20 (which I really like and do) I would get it; from the old Il-2 46 campaign and map-making I know just how much time and effort go into these things. Congrats on getting it finished and hope that it makes you a few bob.

Cheers.

I just started a A-20 career last night and it made a nice change from flying a fighter. Low level attacks sound great and it's a nice plane to fly in VR.

I'll buy this on release day

In the weeds is the only way to fly that thing...low level ingress and egress - fly the bomb down the enemies throat.

That's what this campaign is about.

You're flight leader sort of does things his own way, threading the needle through the mountains.

If you like flying for it's own sake as well as mud moving... you should love this campaign.

If you're the quickie action type, look elsewhere.

Average mission lengths are as follows (a few are out of order)

Hi Gambit, any news on that campaign? It's been a while now... ;)

I've been overseas in Israel for 2 weeks, so just getting my bearings and figuring out where

things are are at.

I'll know more later today after talking with Jason, but probably can't report here necessarily.

Like I said there were a few items that needed to be handled on the Dev end of things after my work was completed.
We should be getting very close now, but at the moment I myself don't know the specifics.

I thinking it could come out with the next big patch

My thoughts exactly

On the other hand, too much presents at the same time would ruin it.

Hmm. Or not.

Title change...Havok over the Kuban     :)

Simplifies it, and the needed map is clear in the title.

Other than that, some last minute work on some translations over in Moscow....I need to track down a small "floating building" bug that was noticed at Anapa I think.

Whether or not it will be available with the update. I knew for sure I'd have to keep my mouth shut.

As it stands it's up in the air, so I can honestly say that I don't know yet.

Make sense to have the needed map in the title to save any confusion.

How are the chances we can see your beauty before x-mas? Looks very promissing and interesting. Can you give a hint or is an NDA still in place?

All I can say is that a few people, including myself are in grind mode to make sure it's ready, including text translations.

I have to make a pass through all the missions and correct some vehicle AI behavior that cropped up - I should be done with that tonight.

It will come down to translations I think - fortunately I don't write novels for briefings.

Fleshed out briefings are fun to tell a story with, (and I do this to the extent that I can) but make them too long and good luck getting translations done...that's the rub.

A good story makes it more immersive and committed, it's also a good opportunity to throw in history facts that would otherwise be lost on the user. But I get the issue of translation, by the way it would be interesting to know how many users actually set their native language when it's not English (and read the briefings) - I can tell I don't, even though my native language is French.

I'm pretty sure the result would show it's not profitable to translate the briefings.

If you do a quick calculation, a translation would cost around 1500€ per language for a typical campaign with a story, they are sold about 9€ and the DLC developer probably gets half the share of profit or less (I have no info on that for 1CGS, but it's a typical figure in this industry). That's a lot of sales to justify native language as an extra incentive to buy the DLC, as opposed to having a larger DLC offer (for now there are 2 official campaigns).

Of course you can try and count on volunteers, but you have no clue on the quality of result, you have no control on the planning, and you are not even sure to get enough translators for all the languages. Besides, volunteers would probably wonder why they'd do that for free ... for a paying DLC. Some would (like me) but I doubt there are many.

So, with all that in mind, the obvious solution is indeed not to include stories and limit the briefings to the strict minimum.

I'm not judging either way, I'd rather have a good campaign without a story that no campaign at all because it was too difficult to get the translation done :) But I can't help seeing that as an unfortunate consequence. Of course I may be wrong.

It could have some tutorial missions to learn how to level bomb. :) I llike scripted campaigns to learn about other planes.

No level bombing to be found here...it's all down in the weeds, fly the bomb down Gerry's throat kind of missions. :)

Redglyph, the briefings are informative enough, and lay down a historical narrative, but are just 'to the point' so that they don't get overly long.

Also while some guys will sink their teeth into a long briefing, most users will skip it or skim through it if it gets too long.

There's just too much work, over too long of a period of time building these campaigns, to then have the process get bogged down at the end by translation issues.

Fortunately we have a good guy to do German and Russian, but I'd hate to give him 16 page-long tomes. Best to keep it short'ish and sweet.

With my Ju-52 missions a few years ago I wrote more of a diary type of story and provided that as an extra text document.

I might do that again with the Jug campaign.

This looks to be an outstanding campaign!  I am especially enamored with the low altitude aspect of the missions.  Please accept my thanks for your work in creating this.  Everyone who enjoys this sim should open the mission editor and create a very simple mission.  It is a very humbling experience.  Again, my thanks and kudos for your hard work.

Not the only one, though according to BlackSix. It should be out by the end of the month.

Gambit21, huge thanks for your enormous work! What an amazing contribution to the sim.

And the new title is amazing, Havoc Kuban are just two words that swing very well together.

Can't wait to see it coming out.
