The Career mode is absolutely Great! I was early 99% multiplayer pilot but now I have played the career mode all the time. Thank you devs, this is a great update! :salute:

+1 Kanttori.

Will on occasion fly MP but not as much.

On the Career, I am doing testing on my rig with Graphics Settings and found it is not map independent.  An Il2 career on the Moscow Front has my frames same as Kuban Flying at 1k Alt.  At 1440p with full settings I get around 50fps.  I can double that by using Default settings (effects minimum or off) with High Quality and cutting terrain distance to 70kms.

Next series of tests will be at 1080p.  See how that performs and looks on a 1440p Monitor.

In game Vsync and AA gives smooth head panning in cockpit and no edge shimmering which can be very annoying at low alt when it happens with AA set via Nvidia Control Panel.

Career though is great, a much needed improvement for single player

Testing done.  Nvidia Settings in Control Panel attached after hitting the Restore button and then modifying the highlighted options.

With that done, then ingame the following settings net me 80+ fps at low alt and much more higher up, 1440p in Career Mode, regardless of map.

Higher frames at 1080p but with a 1440p monitor it is a bit blurry for my taste.

Using AA and Vsync in game gives smoother head turning from side to side (paranoid rear vision checks).

I think the devs have done a great job and I will test online a little to see how that goes next.  It does seem the HUD is a visual layer overlaying the normal graphics, I wonder if there is a way for them to just overlay the info not a whole screen.  Also clouds on lower settings do have aircraft suffering from AA pixelation when aircraft are viewed between the player and a cloud.  This is before said aircraft enters the cloud.

CPU core is undervolted 0.130v

Just had a look at Berlogna and fps was 120+ and Virtual Pilots Finnish Server where FPS 60+ but smooth without any stutters with messaging operating or people connecting and disconnecting.  Might have a look later in the evening when more people are on it, solo Luftwaffe against their Tank Bases leads to me loosing wings on my aircraft, no matter how I fly. No one else was flying team blue ((

I have overclocked CPU and I have better single thread rating and my career experience is not so good:(

True, your CPU is a little faster in cpubench but at a higher speed with more energy.  If you have over clocked it, might you be increasing core voltage of the CPU for stable overclocking?  How do you cool it?  What I am getting at is you might be hitting CPU temps that then introduce throttling due to your setup.  With notebooks and the New AMD GPU's, it has been found that undervolting them can lead to better performance as you don't suffer CPU throttling as much as running them normal.

The Max-Q 1070 GPU is said to run about 10% less than the desktop version but with less energy and heat.

Some pics taken just now of me online in Finnish Server, Virtual Pilots.  First in the 110 E and then the Ju88.  Both planes have pic on side of runway starting up and then in the air with fps counter in the top right corner.  The server was flying smooth with no stutters until it crashed, right as I was releasing a 500kg on a factory railway platform and had lined up some buildings behind for the same love.  I think this server has it out for me :P

Now, with the Ju88, it in itself lowers normal frames by 10 to 20fps.  It was smooth panning from side to side though and good once up in the air.  Using Open Track with a side clip.

Hi,

Just tried out the career mode, only two missions but first impressions are good.

I just want to throw an idea that you devs probably already have : allow default skin to be added some numbers and unit badge : as far as I'm concerned it will greatly improve the immersion having your own number and being able to actually know which one is your Rotttenfuhrer is in battle. It will also help recognition in MP.  Blitz does it. Why not BoX ? Looks not so difficult...

Thanks for looking into it.

Thank you very much for the new career mode - I know it took a lot of work, but from the beginning the lack of a continuous career was my major complaint about the game.

I am also really enjoying the P-39, much more than I expected to.

Thanks for the update, devs!

I have a question about blocking modifications of the player's aircraft in scripted campaign (previously it was done with the line &lockAmmoSchemes=1 but now it only affects the loadout).

I have tried adding the new line &lockPlaneModifications=1 but it's not working..

Steam users can buy anything from the website at any time and it will work with their Steam copy no problems (additional bonus is that the developers get the full payment instead of Steam taking a slice). I bought BOS on Steam, but have since collected everything else from the website.

If you want to buy directly from Steam for a particular reason, I do not know when that will be possible.

Thanks for the reply, may i know your display resolution?

Mine is 2560x1440, I have 72fps initially (50fps in "cloudy" weather), but this drops to about 45 fps after i press "GUI display" button for the first time (or 35fps for "cloudy"). Adding to this some more planes and i got dramatic stutters and often the game slows down to 15-20fps. It is hardly playable, no comparison to previous version - and I cosider my rig pretty adequate...

Hello NoMoreSteam,

My display resolution is 1280 x 960.  Mine runs a pretty constant 75 FPS throughout.

Best regards,

Just bought BOS and BOM a few weeks ago, and am looking forward to buying BOK (Once I finish with my orientation to the first two aircraft sets).

Having a BLAST in career mode and even quick missions. Working into online play on servers.

I know this...

You dont seem to understand point some people will never buy stuff from here.

I do and question is not for me but many people who are waiting to buy it from Steam.

There are customers with cash in their hands who are willing to use it when possible.

I've been reading both this thread and the other one with the Steam/No Steam argument today and have a question.

It was my understanding from last year that Steam was needed to launch BoX in VR but comments here indicate that is not necessary now.

I bought BoK as a fresh release from this website and installed to set up my input controls and now would like to experience flight sim in VR but don't see an option to do so. I've left and right clicked on everything without finding the path.

Is Steam still required to to play BoK  in VR? If not, do I start

The seems like a fun community and I'd like to become more immersed in WWII flight simulation. Looking forward to the career paths and hours of enjoyment once I unlock some of the secrets.

Thanks

Steam VR is required to be running for BoX in VR.

You will need Steam to get Steam VR. Install Steam VR.  After that no need to launch Steam , put a check in the VR tab in Graphics Options, and after that Steam VR should launch automatically whenever you launch BoX.

If you have any other VR related questions I would ask in the VR Subforum here:

No they are gone, we now have the new Career system ( which is awesome), along with a new scripted campaign.

Yes I understand, but this AI is like originated from Rise of Flight. Can be good for WWI era (with the idiot flare pistols and gestures and lone pilots, lone bombers etc.), but nonsense in WWII. This was a totally different and comlex aerial warfare.

The old Il-2 at least try to model the circumstances of WWII. There were separate wingmans, sections and they hear the orders, and the formations tried to stay and fight together etc. And I know simulators with much better AI. (For e. g. DCS.)

I'm just saying that in this way (WWI style aerial "modus operandi" at Stalingrad) this game is a total falsification of the historical circumstances. Maybe cheaper of using the RoF AI engine, but I will pay more, if the game would became more realistic, and historically more correct.

Hi.

I am finding some strange behaviors in the artificial intelligence of the flights of the airplanes in the campaign of the Battle of Stalingrad, mainly with the E7.

I have had cases in which they are going to make a bombing pass and they crash with the ground.
On other occasions when trying to fly in formation they collide with each other in the air, or with the F4 that give them an escort, for example.

I suppose the AI will improve over time.

A greeting.

with rof  the planes can stay in formation with the player , not in il2Bos ( a long time ago   , now I do not know  ). you are focus on money .

Hey mate, just a word, don't want to spill your beans, but that CPU of yours isn't sufficient for IL-2's or DCS's VR modes. It's may be a decent CPU for the future and Dx12-VR or non-VR titles, but both IL-2 and DCS in VR (unfortunately) require at least a a 4.5GHz or 4.6GHz Single Thread speed to run without throttling, without warping, without crawling around at 45fps only.

I tell you this not to glee, but so you'll know in advance why the game will run bad. And maybe the setup is still fresh, so you can still go the route of sending CPU and MB back and buying an Intel processor instead.

That's true. In this way the question of the poor AI become more complex. :-)

Maybe would be better finish the existing works (BoM, BoS, BoK) instead of planning new and new projects (Bodenplatte etc.).

you can ask this question also for dcs  , you know the probleme with dcs , production always in beta never finished . many players are unhappy  , so much unhappy that they tired me with their complaint while the next they buy a new module

you are hard with il2bos but indulgent with other games

when il2 classic  was cracked , many big mistake about  were discovered about weapons . and plane can be start only with one touch , it's a good simulator for you ?

a game is not only ia and historic campagne , even if historical is important , if you see il2bos videos on youtube with squadron multiplayers , it appear a little bit as simulator .

to be objective it's important to speak about all of  game parts .

Screen Flickering

Is anyone else experiencing flickering on the career and pre-flight screens?  I noticed this today for the first time.  Any assistance/guidance on how to rectify this issue will be much appreciated.

No I am not rude, I gave some compliments to BoS as did everybody. I don't care about DCS, it was just an example.

I thought this topic is for the remarks and advices, but you right it can also be filled with positive emoticons as many did.

I'm not alone with my opinion, hope anyone from you payed attention for this.

it's not just an exemple  , you compare only this ia point with il2classic and dcs and conclude your point of view about il2bos , only with that , it's different and you are not the first which speak about IA of il2bos  , they are many post on the forum .

for exemple you can speak about the never finish and expansif dcs game ?  even if i like dcs also

I've had flickering issues in the mission editor due to GSYNC, it was trying to go down to 50FPS. Which it did, and that caused the screen flickering. In my case I fixed by disabling GSYNC in desktop mode (the mission editor is a separate app which does not run in fullscreen), no big loss for me. Not sure if it's applicable to you, but worth a try maybe.

And by the way, the mission editor now feels a lot more snappy. I appreciate that.

Thanks for the information, Fenris.

When I use VR in DCS 2.5 open beta I get 50-60 fps consistently with what I consider a very good visual image. It is not as crisp as on a monitor but I consider that a trade off for the ability to look above and behind me.

Can't afford a new rig at the moment with prices the way they are.

Cheers

Since the launch of 3.001, I am no longer hearing the title music in the game's menus. I can hear the background loop of the cannon shooting and the plane engines, but I don't hear any music. Has anyone else had this issue, and/or was this an intentional feature of the update?

Okay, so you're not hearing the music, and you've noticed there are no longer sparks in the hangar as well? I see. Thank you for letting me know I don't have a unique problem.

2 different issues here:

yes, the main hangar menu screen has been changed to remove the welder + noises

Also an option was put in to turn on or off the title music. It's in:       Settings > Sound ---------> Title Music

If you want the music back tick the checkbox. (I turned mine off.  Prefer it that way....  :)   )
