Will new update diminish performance in VR?

Recommended Posts

Hey I wanted to report back. I have not run into any issues with distance set to 150k and low graphics preset, and AA off and most other things on low. I only tests on free flight taking off from the ground. I did both clear skys and heavy cloud coverage.

I did not notice anything running worse. in fact I feel like it was running better than ussual I was able to keep my hud on in som instances acctually

I have GTX 980TI btw

Just had my first online game since the update, so I figured I'd report back. I kept my settings but also kept the fog at 150km. I no longer have dips into the low 40s at airfields (on the old maps) , and I was actually able to have 90 in the air at times. I'm playing on a gtx 970, OC at about 1500mhz.

Well some better news now. As mike says if you switch draw distance to its lowest possible setting things should be back to about what they were. Also I verified the integrity of gaming cache and clouds no longer look so insanely shimmery! Don't know what that was about but just for the hell of it I am doing a reinstall now.

The campaign mission I just flew was absolutely chock full of assets and it performed pretty well with no problems, but I should warn you it must be pretty demanding with all those warbirds!

So at least I can go to bed without being too worried. I wont feel completely relaxed till I've played with it some more. The main thing is I dont want BOS to be another DCS where campaign is off limits due to missions with too many assets being unplayable as it would put me off playing the campaign.

Campaign looks very nice but wasn't really able to concentrate on it!

did some testing, performance close to before, clouds have less impact on performance? but what i notied was an increase in fps dips f.e. in a 4vs4 scenario, despite headroom 20+.

how do verify integrity of gaming cache, the dips point in this direction.

a clean install solved this issue for me :salute:

Interesting.

I have not been able to spend much time with it yet, especially in the new career. Will keep this in mind.

Is there a way to save controller assignments when doing a clean install,  or is it better to just start fresh with them also?

I see your clean install and raise you a system reset!

nah, for now seems fine to me, could even play an test cloud settings. despite the weird shimmering/planes hiding issue, performance seems much better than before

So you didnt solve the cloud problem? How are you finding the campaign?

didnt dwell into the campaign at all, only testing and comparing to known missions/settings. was pretty bumbed yesterday. the constant dips and loss of the buttery smoothness made me a bit concerned. but for now it seems this issue is solved. regarding the clouds, the shimmering ist still there, but as i said, performance seems much better.

i had to reassign my configuration, i forgot about saving it. but since it solved my main problem, the 5min of reconfiguration were negligible

but saving the whole input folder is worth a try - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input

Ok thanks, will keep in mind if I find I should try a reinstall. Going to do some testing this morning.

Ok ran a couple of quick missions in my Spit over Kuban, 6 Spits versus 6 JU 87's, low over the Kuban mountains and all those trees.

It was very smooth for me, did not see any stuttering. This with distance upped to 100km. High graphic settings, 4x AA, no SS.

Really performance seemed to be about the same as I was getting previously before the update over Kuban. Lowest fps was in the upper 40's with highs hitting 90 fps.

Now to dig into Career Mode and see how I get along with it.  So far though not seeing anything to concern me too greatly.

Man that Kuban is so gorgeous!

Just flew my first combat mission in my newly created Spit Career.

Assignment was for our flight of four to escort a flight of 6 IL-2's across the front line near the Kuban coast.

Lots of activity going on all around, especially at the front line  both air and ground. We were defending the bombers against a flight of 109's.

It was a great mission, performance was a little tough with all the activity going on - my fps on my rig in the heat of combat were in the mid to upper 40's, rarely did I see fps over mid 60's. I saw maybe a couple of stutters, but nothing too serious and did not detract from the overall mission. With all the activity I saw going on these framerates for me were to be expected really.

It was gorgeous though, and certainly still flyable. ( I fly with ASW off).

The Career is looking awesome, highly detailed and so much better than the original campaign system - leaps and bounds better, no comparison really.

I found that lowering my distance view a notch made no visible difference but helped keep my FPS as per normal, i think I also turned clouds to medium.

I've not noticed much if any performance hit in having the 150k distance so far. My 'go to' flight is a P40 with the canopy open flying around the mountains of Kuban and it is just incredible. I don't even need to shoot anything to have a great time doing that! FPS fluctuate between 45 and 89 for me, same as pre 3.001

Performance seems great to me now (system reset and reinstall) think I might be able to bump up draw distance though not sure that is wise for such busy campaigns but I get mostly 90 again now and more importantly it feels very smooth.

Love the new campaign cause it has iron man which is exactly what I wanted although I am more like marshmallow man and have sent many fine men to captivity or early graves.

Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think you are able to choose mission types anymore which is good for me I think as on the old campaign I always took the ground pound attack missions so this will force me out of my comfort zone.

And great news I just got word today that my pet mongoose has been shipped!
