I would kill to have a modern update to Stormeagle's Jutland...or something highly realistic set in the age of sail. Dreadnought battleships and ships of the line are my favorite things.

My third armed recce; strong wind at low altitude, and turbulence.

Managed to destroy a menacing AAA battery near Villers-Bocage, with no losses. One gun was mine.

I've almost landed on my wing, though...

This German soldier was being perticularly rude...

While I do kinda enjoy PS for what it is, the game still puts me to sleep.

The maps are far too large for the player count, objectives are haphazard and often superficial in the grand-scheme, and the majority of your time is often spent sitting around. It reeks of the issues that have plagued Squad since it's inception and seeing as how it is built around that game it suffers for it. While the engine (UE) is certainly capable of some truly beautiful visuals, the gameplay is hampered because it. It's an engine (UE3-4) historically ill suited for large, MP based games, and the more you introduce complex systems into it (ballistics, armor penetration vals, TRD elements, ect) the worse it gets requiring developers to sacrifice one element or system for another to maintain playability.

The same can be said for HLL. Massive maps, far too much downtime, little if any reward, an obscure progression system, and a game that is ultimately boring. Developers these days see other games that have these immense, grandiose maps, and for some reason or another feel the need to emulate that. I'm all for large maps and all, albeit within reason. But these niche devs these days take it to another level, making them as large as they can with no other reason as to make them expansive for the sake of doing so. It adds nothing to the gamplay and more often than not hampers it.

Hate to say it, I really do, but the PS and HLL developers should take a note from the BF franchise with regards to terrain and map creation.

I wasn't expecting a simple screenshot to trigger a rant about a type fo game that everyone wanted and waited for. :p

I like Post scriptum and that's just your opinion, if you prefer smaller more linear maps that's cool but it's not my case, Im confident that the final product will be great and Im glad I bought it.

BF incarnates everything I don't want to see in my historical fps.

It's not a rant. A series of observations I'd say. As much as I enjoy PS, it's a Squad clone in a WWII skin. All of those quirks, bugs, and often bad design decisions with regards to that game are present in this one. As for the map design, it has nothing to do with the linearity and what I might find approachable. But thanks for putting words in my mouth in an attempted but failed deflection on your part. I never said the BF series should be used as an example of the game-play, which you seem to be intent on comparing my statement to.

It does however have everything to do with the map sizes vs player count and in that regard they're far too large. It relies on everyone to spread out in an completely ahistorical fashion where the teams are so small whence defending or assaulting an objective as to be narrowly pushed or pulled in one direction. Sorry mate, but it was rarely, if ever, squad level engagements during Market Garden or for the entirety of WWII for that matter. It was however platoon on platoon or typically greater level (company - battalion +) operations. Granted, Market Garden was it's own unique campaign and SUE's did indeed conduct their own ops/obj seizures, they however were few and far between.

The only reason we don't see a higher player count are due to the engine (UE) constraints and current technology gaps. If said constraints didn't exist we'd be seeing an actual depiction. Again, as was my main point, the maps are huge for the player count.

  • Is PS fun? Yes.
  • Is PS boring? Yes.
  • Is PS realistic? Sorta. I mean how do you judge realism.
  • Is it historical? Meh...to call Post Scriptum 'historical' is pushing it and moreover factually wrong.

Have fun though!

My fourth, as well as my fifth armed recce.

During the former, I survived a scary AAA hit, and finally managed to silence the battery at Falais. Our patrol route should be a bit quieter now. But I landed on my nose.

During the latter, on our way from Falais to Lisieux, we were ambushed by two 109s. Nobody saw them coming; I noticed the first one only when he was lining up his shot. I did manage to evade and eventually got behind him; during the pursuit, his wingman gave my tail section a very ugly treatment. Left elevator, gone. Vertical stabilizer, gone. No. 4 got the leader I was after, while No. 3 saved my life.

I lost my wingman; the rest of us returned to base safely. I crash-landed. Here's the first ejection in my log book.

Fifth mission. Lovely weather: these Yanks are obviously expressing astonishment and admiration for my beautiful landing. We also cleared the AAA battery in Lisieux: five guns destroyed.

Sixth mission. Weather cleared up during the evening: we hit the battery at Cabourg, and managed to destroy four guns. One of them gave me some troubles. I almost landed... I found out that my right wheel had been busted together with my right aileron, as well as my right flap. The moment I lowered them, that was scary. Tried a flaps-up approach, made a smooth go-around, but upon touchdown I lost control quite easily. I disappointed the two Yanks.

The scariest moment I ever experienced in a video game was in Alien: Isolation.

I thought I was safe and alone in a small storage room - I thought I had taken every precaution and did everything right - turns out I was quite wrong.

If you take this game seriously, play it in the dark with the best headset you can buy - it is one of the best gaming experiences you can have.

Considering how crazy it was the first time for me (middle of the day, a friend was talking to me, somewhat grounding me in reality) I think I’d probably need to change my pants. That being said I’d still give it a 10/10 for scaring the living daylights out of me.

(Oh Lordy doing those puzzles to open a door when the alien is nearby... I just get chills thinking about it)

Check the key binding you've assigned to "COMMS Push to talk"; that's the command you should use, I remember many users having this issue. Let me know if you manage to resolve it.

As for the mission, it's not the Epsom campaign; it's a single mission, but after having flown it many times I'd almost say it plays like a campaign, and I find it just as entertaining and challenging. It's this one: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=199200.

You´re right.  This is X-Plane with Ortho4XP.  A little freeware tool to download real world Satelite images and combine them with Open street Map data. Its easy to use and very FPS friendly.

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/forum/322-ortho4xp/

Perfect for VFR flights/navigation. This alone is a reason why I always prefer X-Plane over P3D. You fly over REAL scenery, not those half autogenerated stuff. I love this "yeah, look, there is my house" approach of X-Plane.

Cool, the Ortho4XP looks great. Is everything else stock? Clouds?

So would I have to download the entire Ortho4XP for North America or can I just do US? That's all I would want really, don't fly around the globe much just mainly locally.

Sorry for the late reply.  Yeah, nearly everything is stock or a free mod on those screenshots, exept the clouds/sky textures. This is my only Payware scenery add on. Its called Ultra Weather XP (UWXP) You can get it over the x-Plane.Org shop. I can highly recomend it. Check out some You Tube Vids about it, and see if you like it. The support from this guys is awesome too.

http://store.x-plane.org/Ultra-Weather-XP_p_633.html

If you mad enough and plan to go to north america with Ortho4XP than check Forkboys2 thread out! But be warned, you will need realy...realy...reeeally a lot of HDD space if you want the entire US  😉

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/36327-us-orthophotos/

I already own Germany, Holland Belgium,Swiss,Northern France, England and Scottland and this eats nearly 3TB of HDD space, packed on 2 seperate drives. With the time, X-Plane & Ortho became more and more like a legal drug.

More nocturnal landings. Normandy is becoming merciless: only two planes in my flight of four survived the mission. AAA emplacements have been reinforced. While their aim is deadly during the day, as soon as the sun goes down their positions become quiet. But the tinting of my glass makes aiming at ground targets almost impossible. I'm not sure I hit anything this time.

I just noticed the angle is identical to another shot I took, although I'm not sure I posted it here. Oh well, I hope you enjoy these snazzy ReShade settings.

And something more picturesque:

I've been looking at getting it and I understand there is some sort of issue or conflict with the Steam version of the game?

Yeah, the patcher included in the mod gets blocked by the Steam version, apparently. But it works fine with the version you can buy from GamersGate.

I haven’t experienced any problems with mods for the Steam versions of SH3 and SH4, fortunately, so I’d recommend you have a look at those as well.

Thanks for the X-Plane tips.

So Ultra Weather is the best add on for weather in X-Plane? I know there are a few other ones like Skymaxx and xEnviro right? Which do you recommend?

I would love to just get the OrthoXP stuff just for Wisconsin if possible. Love flying over my home state and it looks pretty boring in stock X-Plane. Is that possible?

Looks great, man...which 757/Sim version is this?

I painted the old QW 757 for FSX until my eyes fell out of my head (uploaded as "Matt Smith" on Flightsim/Avsim)..totally customized paint kits, bump maps, redearching obscure details about converted freighters, you name it. TBH I kind of burned myself out on painting and haven't done anything substantial in a few years LOL.

Now that I've migrated to P3dv4 (IL2 BoX spoiled me to where I couldn't deal  with FSX anymore) my old work is out the window. Flying the Aerosoft A320 series exclusively until I can decide which other models I really want to buy or buy again. I'd had quite a fleet going for FSX but I'll need to be more selective going forward 😎

If you want to get SH4 on Steam, go for the cheaper U-Boat Missions version ($5.85 USD). The description says it’s a DLC for some reason, but in reality it includes both the base American  version of SH4 (which costs $11.65 USD on Steam by itself) and the German Indian Ocean career expansion.

Found a workaround for it, mate. Hell, I'd still be playing SH3 if it was up to par visually given that it hasn't really aged well. While I have all of the games in the SH series, the Pacific theatre (SH4) was the least enjoyable for me, though the playable surface mods are a lot of fun.

It's the new CS 75. And yeah Matt, I know who you are. You might know who I am as well considering I had well over 200 liveries for the Aerosoft 319-321 on their site at one time and more on mine, almost all of which were the most downloaded files of all time somewhere to the tune of 420K total downloads. That is until they (Mathijs) started including my work in official payware releases without so much as an email or PM or anything telling me so and or acknowledging they had done it. So I deleted all of them up to and including the ones John Glanville and did where we worked (officially) alongside American Airlines in creating.

They're shady as all get out over there. After that I closed my site (fsresource.com) and stopped doing almost anything for the genre. The only reason I created a slew of textures for the new Captain Sim 757 is because I was hired to do so.

But yeah, I've been doing liveries for almost eight years now. I've since removed almost all of my screenshots though and this is all I could find, most of which are really old.
