Coconut's dynamic campaign EXPERT and NORMAL

Recommended Posts

I would assume the "not counting" refers to what happens in the campaign, not the stats.

that needs to be clear because one would assume the server is the campaign as well as the stats.

Not necessarily. We've set the Finnish VirtualPilots' server so that it's Blue=Axis, Red=Allied.

Edit: what I wrote above applies only to the map icons, not the airplane icons on the map. Those airplane icons are dependent on what you have selected yourself.

i´d loved to see Moscow Autumn.

Kuban is cool too, but not everyone has the Kuban early access yet, so limits are high for those players.

Hey Jimmy, sorry didn`t reply to you on server last night (bombing convoy on Moscow Map in the 110's).

I fly VR and it`s a true pain trying to type while my keyboard is propped up vertically next to me :/

They were 250kg bombs we were failing to hit the target with lol . Also had some 50kg with the same problem.

Hi.

I am looking into setting up my own private server and was wondering if you had a couple of pointers as to how to setup this dynamic campaign mode on a fresh server.

I don't have the server access yet, so I am unaware as to what it comes with on default. I do have programming knowledge, so scripting is not an issue.

Would appreciate any help.

I am unaware as to what it comes with on default.

It comes with the ability to run missions and to get log files of the events happening in the mission. Any scripting you do will have to sniff out what's written in the logs, and then to write the mission file based on that. The the dserver itself doesn't support scripting at all, so you need to develop an external application for that.

You can also enable the remote console for the server. This allows you to for example send chat messages via the console and plant server input "hooks" into the mission file that the background script you've written can call (to trigger mission logic). However, it seems like using the rcon results in a bit of server instability.

Only true with setting of Friendlies Blue, Enemies Red

Interesting. No matter how much I play with my settings the map colours remain consistent. At least on Coconut's server.

The region borders and the arrows should be consistent with the airfield colors. The icons (planes, tanks), however, do not follow your settings.

The dynamic campaign is third party's software, you don't get it with the game.

I think you've got the answer, right? I don't think you said what side you were flying. Russian?

that needs to be clear because one would assume the server is the campaign as well as the stats.

I'll try to make the message clearer, then.

Hey coconut I ran into 2 invulnerable mig3 ai flying a transpo mission I think last night. I got it recorded if you need the files for debugging. Unless it's intentional when there's no human players

Kameraden,

Coconut, thank you for hosting this server.

Question on the Ju 52 supply mission, am I to assume a base with a full green bar has bombs? Should your stat's show resupply missions? How does one tell if your supply mission was a success?

S!

Coconut. On behalf of my squadmates in the 71st, I would like to thank you for your creation of this server. IMHO it is the new Storm of War. My squad mates and I are still learning how to most effectively play the campaign here, but wow its really nice what you have done. Thanks!

Coconut, The server is absolutely fantastic. Thanks again for the continued magic.

The AA that protects some of the strongest airfields is great.  You can really find yourself in a maelstrom if you're not careful.

Not necessarily. Full green bars mean "region fully protected". Note that not all regions have one airfield. Some have 0, others have 2. The amount of bombs at an airfield is shown beside the airfield's name on the map.

At the moment the only confirmation is the in-game chat message, and sometimes it does not work. The supply mechanism however works even when the messaging system is down.

It would be nice to have more confirmation, but for now that's all there is.

Hi Coconut, I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus praising your work on this server. I haven't exactly covered myself in glory this campaign (in fact, I seem to be cursed), but I've had fun nonetheless. I really like the added challenge and atmosphere of flying in different weather and light conditions, the AI background activity, the moody pillars of smoke smudging the horizon... The expert server is a weird mix of very hardcore and very laid back, and I love it.

Yeah, I did a P-40 run in pitch dark from home base to see if could do anything to help out our forces attacking Alfarevo. Well, I got there saw some flares and occasional tracer, but too dark to see any ground targets. Fly in circles looking for the actual airfield, for several minutes. Then realized I was right over it. It was all shot to hell so made my way home. Navigating Moscow at night a real PITA, so it was something just to get to the target and get home.  :good:

I set Gamma to 1.2 (the maximum) for night missions, in the Graphics Settings.

Can someone please explain what I did wrong yesterday.  Here is what the manual says about resupply.

Players can fly supply flights using empty He111 or Pe-2, or the Ju52 with the cargo load-out. A supply flight normally follows these steps: take-off from well-supplied rear airfield, land and airfield in region in need, take-off again with the same plane and land back at the airfield of departure. Do not despawn at the front airfield unless you also want to transfer the plane there.

I saw an airfield low on supplies so took a PE-2 from a rear field.  The bomb loadouts were greyed out (though I am sure there were bombs at that field) so I assumed that was OK for a supply flight. I did fit the turret as I am sure I read somewhere the turret is allowable (or was that only TAW?). I left the fuel at 100% as I know TAW insists on that.   My first clue that all was not well was a few minutes after take-off when I saw a message saying WTTE 'XXX has taken off from YYYY with 100kg of cargo' and I knew that I had not had that message when I took off myself.  I flew to the other field and landed and stopped but here was no message about supplies and as I had not had the message about taking off with supplies I thought there was no point flying back so I just despawned.     What might I have done wrong that meant I was not carrying supplies as I had intended?   Did I need to  look around the rear fields to find one where the PE2s had a 'Cargo Loadout'?  The punctuation in the manual infers that only the JU52 has a cargo loadout.

[...]

Just tested it, took a PE2 series 87 (the stalingrad one), 100% fuel, empty loadout. It seemed to work, messages and all.

Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/Ahu7f

Edit: you need to take the empty loadout.

You did not pick the empty payload, see e.g. http://coconutside.eu:81/en/sortie/19099/?tour=9 for comparison.

OK.  You are saying that in Coconut it must be unarmed but can have reduced fuel.  Not the same as TAW that allows you to be armed but must carry full fuel.

Perhaps one day you can change the manual to say 'unarmed and without bombs'  as to me 'Players can fly supply flights using empty He111 or Pe-2' just means 'No bombs' and most people who have flown TAW would probably assume the same.

"empty" is the name of the loadout, I'll try to be more explicit about that. I think you still have gunners, but no forward gun (for the pe2).

OK It would make sense to allow rear guns but not front guns as the PE-2 was originally designed as  fighter :-)

I need to join the choir praising this server. I love everything about it... There is much variation with regards to what you can do and the constantly changing weather and time of day really adds to the experience. Hats off for Coconut!

Hey Coconut! Loved played your server today - I see how your server balancing worked and it's effective - I saw a no more that +/-1 b/w RED and BLUE with someone not being allowed to fly BLUE when the number hit the threshold. I was glad it didn't kick randomly - which would have sucked.  ;)

Personally,  much as I like the server, the autobalancing often means I cannot fly here with my squad.  We usually have 4-6 pilots so unless we join at a time when one side is outnumbered by 4 or 5 we cannot all fly together.  We tried last night because the Blues had more pilots than Reds but as we were spawning in some Blues left and suddenly all the Red fields locked and one of our pilots was told he was not allowed to spawn because now there were too many Reds.  We waited to see if anything would change but then had to leave (which probably then stopped some Blue pilots from spawning instead)

THIS ;)

About 4 months ago it was really empty on the prime time saturday, when we had time to fly. Now its increasing (a good and bad thing during same time).

I'd be thrilled with a steady 24 (12 per side) regular players. I don't want it to become all the new rage and the new meta.

Ssshhhhh first rule of Coconut is don't talk about Coconut
