Thanks for all the good times you have provided.  It's too bad this will be mothballed, wish someone could pick it up.

This is a real drag. My squad has been looking for something to do on Friday nights and we finally found our match on the Coconut server as it fit our needs and desires.

 Now I guess it will be back to trying to decide what we all want to play and what all of us can play for what ever random reason. This was something we were all able to play and wanted to. I wish we would have found the server earlier.

 Is there no possible way the server can be preserved one way or another? I'm sure many of us would be willing to donate if that's the obstacle. If it's time, would handing over the reins to someone else to keep her going possible? Or is there too much technical knowledge needed to be learned for someone else to keep it up?

 It's is quite a masterpiece Coconut. We are very grateful for the time we have had to enjoy it. It will be a shame to see all that work just disappear while so may are still enjoying it.

That's a shame Coconut I've really enjoyed your server and even when it's "quiet" there's always the AI to fight.

Good luck with your new interests.

Cheers

The obstacle is not money, but thanks for asking. There are a few people who have at times used my software to run campaigns on their servers. The software will remain available, and someone else could run a server on a regular basis.

However, the problem is not so much in running the software, although that alone can be a challenge, but in maintaining it. When new features are added to the game (ju52, po2, tanks...), it's desirable to take advantage of them. When things in the mission editor or in DServer change, the software must be updated if it stops working. Then there is the somewhat fragile interface between DServer and the campaign. That's the part I've lost motivation to take care of, and it's also the part where my somewhat unique competence and commitment are required.

Basically, if anyone has the competence and commitment to develop and run a dynamic campaign, chances are they are already doing it with their own software. See for instance TAW, the Finnish Virtual Pilots, or Pat's campaign generator.

Anyway, there's a good chance I'll be back, but for now, I need an extended break.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into the Coconut Servers and especially your assistance with getting ours set up and running.

Maintaining them is a bit of a chore, especially when updates come fairly often, but it's worth the effort to have this great sim available.

Good luck in your endeavors and we hope to see you return sometime soon.

Many thanks for all the good time you allowed for all of us.

During two months I invested all my free time in the campaign and it was so pleasant !!!

I can imagine the hard work it needs to manage such system.

have a nice  break and comes back when the "fire" will be there again !!!😉

Your server is by far the best but......18 disconnects this month is just too much. I have been in touch with the Support team and they suggest that it is due to your settings. I know there is nothing wrong with my computer and there is nothing wrong with my internet. I have also installed new internet adaptors. It's so frustrating....I don't have this problem on any other server. When I do manage to complete a mission, I don't get any score because of penalties

Yup.

I can't play IL2 online any more due to the constant disconnects. The support staff are utterly useless and have no clue, I have no problem with any other game - never have, it's only IL2.

Hello, Camm (et.al.).

Are your problems with the game software, or Coconut's particular servers? Try other servers. I have never been kicked from a Coconut server, and have not heard of this issue being a problem with any of my squad members.

Perhaps your particular problems lie elsewhere. The server settings may have problems with computers having slow pings or response times and other limitations on the server hardware, but since we're not all kicking in a bunch of donations to Coconut's server fund we should not expect his hardware or personal time commitment to have to qualify as government issue stuff.

In any event, speaking from personal experience, running a server (for the pleasure of others) requires a HUGE time commitment, and it appears that not everyone is having a connection issue. Coconut has done all of us a terrific service by having his servers so available and fun. I'm amazed how quickly he gets the servers back up and going after every update that comes out.

To expect Coconut to have to troubleshoot all of everyone's connection woes may be just a tad bit unfair, IMO

Go fly other servers to see if the same situation occurs elsewhere. If it does, your problem is with the game software. If not, just fly a different server. I hope your problems get resolved.

Cheers!

@AKA_Goshawk @-IRRE-Therion

Lads, we've had this issue since the beginning of the year. Between Camm and myself, we have tried every exhaustive method in an attempt to fix the issue - nothing has worked. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern to the #10009 error; folk (not just Camm and I) suffer it on other servers, personally I get the error on every server spare Berloga, although I rarely play on Berloga long enough for the error to seemingly materialise. None of my flying friends have the issue, and to be honest I didn't until the turn of the year. I don't think Camm is expecting coconut to do anything, in fact we've run through coconut's advice and have double-checked our connections to his server - we have a perfect route to his server. It's the IL2 game itself that is the issue, something changed internally and it is affecting folk on an unpredictable basis.

Thanks, Leifr. I appreciate your response. Your response seems to clear the problem as not being with Coconut's server. It appeared that Camm was indicating the problem was ONLY with Coconut's server.

Camm posted: " It's so frustrating....I don't have this problem on any other server."

It sounds to me that it might be something as innocuous as a Windows update or security setting issue rather than a server problem or game software problem.

There are just so many things that could cause that kind of problem.

I hate to see Coconut's servers go, but understand the reasoning why. Time for me to send a few $$ his way to help keep running til the end of May.

If you are so darned clever Gos….YOU tell me what the problem is.

There is no problem with my internet. I have no package loss. My computer has been checked out by an IT specialist and he states my computer is perfect. I have installed new Internet adaptors. I've also uninstalled and re-installed the game 3 times. I have a low Ping...so that isn't the problem either

I have flown on Coconut server for almost 18 months with no problem...until mid January of this year. THAT'S when the disconnects started. I have been in constant touch with the Support team and they suggested (eventually) I contact  Coconut about his settings. As for flying on other Servers is concerned, I have even done that.....on THREE different servers, with no problems. I am at a total loss as to where the problem lies. So, I say again...if you know so much you tell me what the problem!!!!

Also I don't expect Coconut to sort out ANY of my connection 'woes'. I merely asked fort his help

Incidentally, if you check the forum, you will see that I am not the only one that has connection issues

I'll be glad to try and help you troubleshoot your problems, which I suspect are somewhere other than the server settings.

But, to save wear and tear on Coconut's server's reputation, let's take the discussion to email. You already have my email address.

I look forward to hearing from you. Once the problem has been discovered and (hopefully) rectified, you can post what the solution was to help others sort it out.

Hello Coconut.

I am "learning" the IL-2 Simulation for not such a long time now and because I still have to learn and practice a lot I played mostly offline during the last months.

But this week I started to look for some Multiplayer Servers and I tried your "normal" and "expert" Servers and I liked them sooo much that I want to come back again and again.

I am sad to read now that you will close them down by end of May. I can understand that you have a lot of work with it, just want to thank you too for your excelent job.

I wish you all the best, just hoped that someone else could keep your Servers alive, but that might not happen, just hoping.

I have gotten the "10009 disconnect" on KOTA and WOL. Very inconsistent, sometimes I can play for hours, other times it boots me every time I log in. Not here though on the few times I've had time to play of late.

I think its pretty clearly an issue with Il-2 itself, at least for some, but with the lack of consistency in occurrences, I'll be damned if I can think of a way to figure out what exactly is causing the issue. Perhaps during the latest updates and fixes to multiplayer netcode something was introduced that only rears its ugly head for some players and at some times.

EDIT: I did get this issue on occasion in 2018, not just since the turn of the year, but I believe many of those cases were due to my own connection.

Coconut, I returned to IL2 after a 8 year break in November. I also ran a server back in the old times ("by.sturmovik.II") and know about the hassles and the amount of work.

Your servers have the best concept of everything which is out there, even if the majority of player prefers "Non-AI-Servers".

I really enjoyed the times on coconutside :)

Big thank you and "Chapeau" to you!

Have a beer on me:

Coconut - I was the 2018 CO of 56RAF and we spent a lot of enjoyable time on your Expert server.

Having done some mission building I'm acutely aware of the amount of time you have put into devising the scripting and objects for this server. We are immensely grateful for the work you and others put in to the best servers.

In particular, I liked the following aspects of it:

1. the way you balanced the accessibility of plane types with encouragement to behave realistically by limiting plane numbers;

2. the equal importance given to the air war and the ground war;

3. the presence of AI always give something to do, even when numbers are thin;

4. the recon "pop-up" of targets and the long map run times give the opportunity to do realistic successive missions;

5. though behind-the-scenes, your optimisation of the AI scripting load was very useful to many.

I rate your server up there with the best, like TAW but different in character.

I'm so sorry you're going, but understand that nobody can run such an effort for ever and wish you the best in whatever your next project is.

Some days before this server is going to dive away (hopefully only temporarly), I suggest that many pilots will do on a fixed day only formation flights - soviets and germans together, all kind of planes, maybe by squadron, just to give the last salut and honour to this great immersive playground.

(off course the bombers should set their gunners to hold fire).

What do you guys think?
