Bf-110 campaign

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I need a config. settings advice for a Bf-110 campaign.

my first 2 attempts was not very successfull...

Mission1: Attacking an enemy AF. my entiere flight refuses to attack and circle over the red airfield untill all gets shoots down.

Mission2: After action,my flight circles over the own AF and dont want to land,untill...the bitter end.

Edit. I´ve generated a few more missions to see how PWCG handles an attacker campaign.

The missions was mostly the same nonsense as before.

Bombing raids without fighter support-jumped by 4-6 reds= all bf-110 dead

Close air patrol-engaged by 6-8 reds= all Bf-110 dead

Bomber protection, after start engeged by a swarm of yaks= all Bf-110 dead

Any tips?

At home, yes, satisfying answers, no. I gave up, flying the 110, not only in PWCG, but also in the stock campaign, because of similar experiences.

When you fly as ground attacker, you have escort, that is not worth mentioning them (they fly with you, but don't really care, what happens to you, not only in PWCG), and fighter missions don't make a lot of sense with the 110, anyway, as AI does not make the mistakes, players in Multiplayer do.

About the circling above your own airfield after returning from your mission, this is in PWCG the default behaviour for all flights, that are not flying fighter missions (In escort missions, your flight won't land, too).

I was only flying three Stuka missions, so far. We were intercepted everytime and the missions got fighter missions, as the Stuka stopped flying in formation and turned with the fighters, instead of defending themselves with common fire in formation.

The bomber missions, I was flying is quite some time ago. At that time all aircrafts that attacked ground targets circled over the target, before they attacked. But you need a straight approach to the target, to aim with your bombsight. But I don't know, how it is now, as the behaviour over the target is now completely different ,from my experience.

Thank s for the respond guys.At least I´m not the only one with this kind of problems. So,PWCG in the current state is usless for me. I was think of PWCG as a functional dynamic campaign generator like the DCG for our old Il-2.

I will stick to scripted campaigns & TAW/Random Expert online till the new career system arrives in a few months.

S!

I use it for flying fighters, as it has much more variety than the stock campaign and I can really play a carreer, with starting in the lowest rank and try to make my way up. I recently started another carreer with the 109 F2 on the Moscow map, lets see how far I can get.

I don't see this, as explained above, as a PWCG issue. With the current behaviour of escort fighters, who don't care for the groundattackers they should protect, it is just frustrating to fly aircrafts like the 110, that is one of my favourite aircrafts. I just experienced too many times, also in the stock campaign, that my escort turned away to attack enemy bombers or groundattackers, while their escort fighters attacked us.

One option is to reduce the number of enemy flights.  You can do this by setting air activity to low.  You can further reduce enemy air activity in advanced configs.  This will allow you to blow stuff up on the ground with less of a chance of molestation from the air.

Because each PWCG campaign is independently configurable, these configs would only impact your ground attack campaign.

A second option that would require code would be to have your escort fly a sweep in front of you instead of a true escort.  This way they would engage fighters along the way.  The down side is that they will run away from you, so that might not work out very well.

Last option is to combine both - a sweep and a direct escort.

Damn ... those sound like actual work :)

Thanks Patrick, for the tips. I will give it a try. Hopefully it works, so I can have fun with my 110 again.

Reducing flights is the only option available right now.  I would have to code the sweep.

If enemy air activity is really that bad that it stops people from playing ground attack then there must be a way to do something about it.  Some significant effort was made to create a target rich environment on the ground.  Shame if that goes to waste.

P.S.  Has anybody had a mission involving a battle in PWCG?  I flew a few tests and they were a lot of fun.  30+ tanks on the ground with trucks and artillery too.  Wish we had or could mod in infantry units.

After testing the Henschel and doing some sightseeing tours through the Kuban map, I started now a new carreer with the 110.

I set the air density in the simple config to low, reduced Max Enemy Flights to 2, as Patrick recommended, and additionally reduced Flight Opposition Odds to 25, as I think this might have some influence, too. After six ground attack mission, I would say it works pretty well, I had only in two missions enemy fighters around and they were busy with our escort fighters, so I heard and saw they were around, but they could not engage us and we were able to do our job.

One wish from me would be, that the players flight also lands after ground attack missions, not only after fighter missions, but I don't know if there is some difficulty with this.

I don't think any AI lands right now.  I have found in both RoF and BoS the mortality rate is through the roof when you ask them to land.

Despite escort missions, AI lands when you fly fighter missions (at least 109s and 110s), but you have to change in the advanced config the 'Landing Distance' in the 'Flight' section from the default 750m to 500m. Then when you arrive at your airfirld, you can see that the AI turn on the navigation lights and one after the other lands his aircraft, turns off the lights after stopping on the runway and despawns. I have never seen one of them crashing while landing, only one or two times there was a bug, that they had the nav lights on, but did not land, but normally, there is no problem with AI landing.

Doing a campaign with the Pe-2 and i find ground attack missions work fine. Always have an escort that tries and deals with enemy flights and my wingmen dive and attack the targets, although not very well lol.

Only issue is I find the bombing missions don't give you enough of a 'bomb run'. Have had to abandon my wingmen and do my own run for that.

Overall very pleased!
