Single Player Ju-52 missions by Gambit 21

Downloaded, nice to have some change to usual fighter/bomber missions! Thanks  :salute:

 

Edit: Flew first two missions and I think you`ve done an excellent job. Transport missions can be really fun when done right!

In second mission I got hits from I-16s over the drop zone, got damaged engines and fuel was leaking. Just over the base where we supposed to pick up wounded guys, I was out of fuel and my engines died. Made emergency landing and when I stopped my plane I-16 crashed just in front of me  :lol:​ . Wreckage can be seen in picture, that mission was full of events :good:

Zami, I'd definitely give you the kill. I was flying this mission two times and was more lucky as it was both times one of my AI comrades, that was attacked.

But in the first try I was rammed by the trucks of the arriving supply convoy, when I was taxing to my parking position. So guys be aware of them.

EDIT: Same happened, unfortunately, in the next mission as well :(  I should better have a look at the ground troops myself. :rolleyes:

Not me, did all 5 missions without a problem. Plus done some of them twice.

Very strange - sorry you're having problems.

I've never experienced a crash with them, nor did anyone testing.

 

What are your system specs?

Intel I5, 8 GB RAM and a Nvidia GTX 960 with 2 GB (ultra settings, but 2x range and no eye candies, > 100 fps), Asus mostly, Windows 10, mainstream hardware, drivers are up-to-date ... as I told you, the system is very robust, usually. Thx for the feedback, I'll have to find out what's provoking the ctd on my rig.

Your bottleneck is your graphic card with only 2GB. The 960 is a bit low for that kind of game, and the memory of the graphic card is low. What kind of I5 have you ?

 

Do you have any message for your CTD ?

I am flying with a 2GB 750Ti on a 3.1GHz i5 without problems in Ultra settings, the only thing I had to do after last patch, was reducing the distance from 4 to 3 and without the grass option.

So it should definitely be no problem for Retnek, to play the missions with his system.

Hi folks, thanks for your interest & comments, I'll add some info:
 
I5 2500 k @ 4,5 Ghz, large air cooler, temp always below 70 degree C, total CPU-load with IL2-BoX from 55% (online or quick mission single plane) to 75% (quick mission 16 planes duel @ Moscow map)
 
8 GB RAM, from 3.9 to 5,5 GB in use with IL2-BoX
 
Asus Stryx Nvidia GTX 960 @ 1,8 Ghz, GPU has a workload from 95 - 99 %, frame-rates always > 80 fps (optical mix of ground & instrument panel) to > 150 fps with sky, a few clouds and 16 AI-aircraft.
 
2 GB VRAM, in use 85% to 99% with the settings below

 

There are Track-IR4, Logitech-USB-headset, Saitek yoke, rudders and an additional quadrant, drivers etc up to date, as those are for Windows and Nvidia.
 
I had absolutely no problems and fps > 90 until the 2.010-update, settings as shown, but range 4x. After the last update fps went down to 60-80 fps and for the first time I've seen stuttering. Ok, my VRAM is not that big for todays standards and the DX11-advantage won't last forever, I gladly pay the price for the mirrors.

 I tested, read some notes in the forums and now I use the settings you find in the picture. fps now as given above, stutters are gone (with 3x range there are some very short ones at Moscow only). I can't complain about anything at my 120 Hz-screen (LG-24GM-77) - I think my rig is a bit outdated, but even with 2.010 still fine for IL2-BoX. I can fly for hours online or campaign missions, usually no problem. Ctd or a frozen exe I experienced once or twice a year as one can find it at any PC.

But this problem now I'm able to reproduce. I start Gambits first mission and after the first, once after the second waypoint there is a clean CTD, abrupt and immediate. No sound, no message, no entry in the Windows logs, Il2-launcher is still running. Again: no drama or whining here, I'm just curious what's going on and maybe there's an error behind it interesting not only for me.

Add on - after ca. 15 min flight Windows registered the event:

Some tools for CPU / GPU were running, too - nothing suspicious. CPU at 70% mostly, RAM a bit over 5 GB, GPU load 100%, 95% VRAM used, but with 73 degree C the GPU was far away from critical. FPS from 65 (crowded airfield at start), ca 90 from cockpit in formation to > 100 from outside.

I'm going to make a somewhat educated guess and agree with Habu that it's your 2gb GPU.

That said GTX 580 are supposedly working with the game, and that's a 1.5gb card.

Also don't know enough to look at that log and make a determination about it one way or the other.

 

The only thing I can say is that I'm positive that one way or another it's your system as I have countless hours of testing in without a single crash, and your GPU

is the only thing that looks suspect in that equation as all of my testing was done on my i5 2500k system before I upgraded recently.

 

But then there's Yogi who doesn't have any problems...

Hello Gambit21, first of all thank you very much for the missions really appreciated. :salute:

 

I also have experienced a CTD since the latest patch while trying the first mission again now after failing to complete it successfully the first time I flew it.

 

Sorry I do not fly much due to ill health so trying the mission first time was some weeks ago so only got around to flying it again the other day and all was okay until the flight passed the 

home bound E-7 flight and was at roughly 15 km from the next way point and using auto stabilizer.  (distance comes from flying the mission again after the CTD with icons on to find where it happens.)

 

I do not know how to post a log as per the old IL-2 1946 so could you tell me if there is some kind of game trigger around that position that might have been affected by the recent game update?

 

System: Chillblast Fusion PC with Intel®( Core i-5-4690K CPU @ 3.50 GHz with 8.00 GB RAM and 64 bit Operating system.

Your GPU is overload and use too much memory, with that king of GPU, you should use High settings or less and not Ultra. With a big mission, you would have some problem (freeze, stutter, etc...) because, there is not enough free ressource for your GPU. For your crash, with that kind of message, it's hard to know. I would try with no overclocking of the CPU.

Don't forget, that it's very difficult to reproduce any situation, except if you use a track. If the player is at the wrong place at the wrong moment (many AI, with spawn AI, etc...), it could have problem as another which would be not at the same place wouldn't. But for me, Yogi is in the same situation as Retnek. I'm pretty sure that at one moment, he would have some problem. It's not because it works sometimes, that you have the right settings.

Your GPU is overload and use too much memory, with that king of GPU, you should use High settings or less and not Ultra. With a big mission, you would have some problem (freeze, stutter, etc...) because, there is not enough free ressource for your GPU. For your crash, with that kind of message, it's hard to know. I would try with no overclocking of the CPU.

Hm, can't see a direct reason here - I own Il2-BoX from early on and the GTX 960 for one or two years. I ran all kinds of missions, never had any problems with "Ultra" until 2.010, range 4x, fps up to 150 and no stutters at all, not even with the Moscow map. Anyhow, there's an easy way to test it: I'll reduce the settings, switch of the landscape-sharpening, reduce range etc while monitoring the GPU-load. If Gambits mission will survive the first 15 min, we know we're digging at the right spot. Overclocked CPU never has been a problem, since all kind of demanding simulations run fine, ARMA III, DCS. But if there is no result while changing the graphic settings, I will check that aspect, too. This will hurt much more, on my system the fps of Il2-BoX more or less completely depend on CPU-performance.

 

Do you have your GPU driver update ?

If there is a "standard-high-load-track" for IL2-BoX, I'll gladly load it down and let it run with the different GPU-settings. Gambits first mission for me is the first one where I can reproduce a problem in IL2-BoX.

I don't care for eye-candies. As long as I'm able to detect targets (nearly) as good as other users with Ultra-setting do, I reduce the beauty down to good old IL2-46.

Ok, I did some serious testing. Started with my BIOS-settings, downgraded the overclocking step by step until factory-default - ctd remained, every time the same moment of that mission: 14,33 km to go to waypoint 4 (5?), heading 46, it has to be something just and only happening at that point. Time compression had no influence, too, it crashed with 1 x or 8 x. I went on with the research, now downscaling the video-setting gradually to lowest possible and no gimmicks - the GPU finally did it with 50% using 40% VRAM. ctd came at that 14,33 km point again and again. Whatever it is, it's independent from overclocking and graphics settings. I think my PC is ok in general.

 

The reports from the event-app-log are in the spoiler, all the other report-stuff is still on my SSD. Just let me know who is interested and he'll get it in a zip. I tried to understand your mission file (opening it produced an error-text, see spoiler 2), but with the children around I can't dig into it - I hope one can fix that moment 14,33 km before that waypoint with heading 46 and analyse what's happening at that time.

I did also two test flights and have to admit, that I also had CTD after about 15 min. of flight, both times. I suppose, that I was flying the first mission in the old version 2.009 and that is the reason, why I didn't have troubles with it. But I was flying the third mission in version 2.010 without troubles.

I can confirm the exact same crash event.

This means that you don't have some strange issue Retnek.

Ok, i have the same problem at the same time. See screenshot.

 

For information, on that mission, my graphic card (980 GTX with 4 GB memory) use 3630 MB on 4 GB, and i'm using high presset, but i have the distant landscape on x4. I join ma graphic settings.

 

Gambit, did you make some change between the beta, and the mission in the first post. I played the mission in the first post, but if you make change, it could be interresting to test again, the beta version.

 

If i have time, i will have a look with the editor.

Maybe, but i like to investigate to be sure of what i say. The goal is to find what is the problem in the mission now (there are many mission which work fine, so we have to find why there is a crash in that mission, and not in other ones), to say to the dev, the problem is with that object, and to reproduce it. It's that way we can have a fix faster. ;)

 

i have a look in the editor and i found 2 waypoints which are not link to any unit, and one naming group which could be the problem (Gambit avoid any sign in the name suche as *,/ .... we had some crash problem with bad naming in rof mission). I change the name, but it didn't solve the problem. I don't think it's the waypoint, but i can't fix it as i don't know to which unit i have to link them.

 

I'll try to regenerate the mission file base on the msnbin.

No, this mission hasn't changed a bit...I haven't touched it since before I posted all 5 missions.

 

Whatever naming convention is present, or an unused waypoint or 2 that I neglected to delete...there were no crashes before the update.

MCU's that are not linked such as waypoints don't typically cause any issues anyway as you know (other than the aircraft or vehicle not behaving like you expected them to)

certainly not game stability problems.

 

If you post a screen shot later of the waypoints I can find them easier when I open the editor and delete them, or link them.

Everything in that mission is working as intended, so no unit needs more waypoints.

 

I'll tell Han that you're looking into it as I already reported this to him.

That way he'll hold off on investigating until he hears from you.

For the waypoint, it's easy to find, run the editor, go In Tool menu, and set : Check integrity on save/load (always having that option on, it will help a lot). You'll have a report which will be display naming the waypoint which have problem. As i look, it seems to be link to the 109, but check.

 

The two waypoint have the number 13255 and 13257.

 

 

Edit : I teste with a regenerate .mission without sucess. The game crash at the same moment.

 

Gambit, may you tell me where are the player plane when it crash, to locate it in the mission. Also, if you remember, do you know if something is spawning, or do something at the time when the crash arrive. I would say between 15 and 25 minutes after teh begining of the mission.

 

Next test, but it will take some times, is to delete group one by one and test after one group is delete.

OK Habu - must be something with that He 111 flight that I don't think even spawns, but is set up to spawn.

There is indeed a spawn MCU piped into a check zone.

 

This was an early mission, and I subsequently stopped using Check Zones and went to complex triggers, as I find Check Zone behavior unpredictable.

However this is a Check Zone piped into a Spawn MCU which spawns the He 111's, and well into the players' flight, triggered by the Pelican Leader.

 

I think this might be the culprit.

Please see the CheckZone MCU 13218 in grid 2212 under the top-most/ primary mission heading group (Pelicans 1)

I also moved a trigger/delete Check Zone to it's proper location at the end of the 109's flight/last waypoint.

Small chance this was the culprit as well. That is Check Zone 13233.

 

To add to the confusion, they are titled as "109's...early days workfllow mistake.

 

It was indeed the waypoints to 4 of these aircraft that were not connected, however that could not have been the issue IMO.

Testing new version now.

Moving the spawn trigger MCU for this group eliminates the crash.

Mission fixed, crash eliminated.

Basically it was an improperly constructed spawn group from my early/learning days that wasn't functioning in the mission, but I'd ignored it since I didn't need it and the mission ran fine.

However something with the new version of the game didn't like it. So it's fixed, up to my current standard and all is well.

 

I'm out of time tonight, and I realized I don't have Winzip downloaded on this new system.

I'll get the fixed version up first thing in the morning.

Got it, flown it and successfully passed the magic point 14:33 km from X - thank you! Nice mission, looking forward to fly the next one. Thank God it's winter, one needs to fly the engines near overheating continuously to stay with that gimme-three-times-full-ahead-kind of leader. Is the speed AI-driven? Else I'd suggest to slow down, Luftwaffe had to conserve fuel and engines.

Same here, I forgot to report. Landed with the Ju and went to a position left of the tower, when a white message showed up, something like "reached correct position". I waited for minutes, trucks went by, other planes landed, but the mission did not come to an end.
