Bf 109 G-2 G-4 4k Templates

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I started work on a Bf 109 G-2 4k template, (based from the smaller original one we already have).

Decided to tackle the panel lines and shading at the same time, and I wasn't sure if this was such a good idea in the beginning, but it seems to be working..

Many new items such as: Service panels, rivets, and of all sizes, even some new screws, I've made, remade from the original template.

Feel free to give any constructive input.

Regards,

Boomerang

Waxed her this arvo, how does she look ;) Just kidding ..

I have learnt a great many things while engaging within this project, also needed to refer to the wire frame layer from time to time.

All good tho, quite the challenge, (for me anyway).

Panel lines, some highlights and shadows have been re visited and checked. It's nearly there... nearly . :) I  keep discovering different ways of how panels can look.

Original Livery now looks crisp, just need to check its matching everywhere .

Subtle shape shading, and metal texture: Maybe, maybe?

Chipping: Have a good idea on this, just follow the panel edges :P

The rest, will be  ware and tear eventually.

Hello S!,

I have managed more time to continue the work on the 109's template. I decided to redo the machine guns panels, as the original was a smaller size anyway.

I took a screen shot of the screws, as the real 109's had them as well. It might not seem that much has been done, but the shading and highlights take longer to complete, (much of which has been done now).

Looking good so far. I like the machine gun ports look way better. Are the small rivets supposed to be that blurry (seems too much to me)?

Btw, if you're looking for some good refference pics I can only recommend this site: http://www.jagdgeschwader4.de/index.php/flugwerft-hauptraum/jaeger/messerschmitt-bf-109/g-2-10639

Just hover over Flugwerft -> Jäger -> Bf-109 and you'll find multiple pics of modern Bf-109 G-2s and G-4s.

I've dusted myself off, and returned from the Hanger with a couple of new looking 109's. (not a scratch, well yet any way) ;)

Made plenty to date, now all I need to do now is:

Finish making the service panels

Touch up a couple of lines.

Finnish a chipping layer.

Start a faded worn/scratched paint layer.

Add more on the Alpha Channel layer.

Complete a Dirt, dust and grime separate layer.

Stencils.

And there will be probably something else.

Thanks,

I noticed some of the service latches on the original were upside down, so I made new ones from scratch, (without the screws) then inverted some. This is correct now as far as I am aware.

The grey exhaust stacsk look kind of strange. I've only ever seem them either uncoloured or matt black (or brown depending on paint wear). Other than that it looks pretty fine :)

Yep, was thinking the same thing sbout the exhaust colour, after I posted yesterday. Ill make some changes, and thanks 5tuka

I may need to put a screw slot in the catches as well, (think this screw driver slot may be under the red lines on the latches)

Hey Boomerang,

The template looks very nice. Some nice progress.

I do have 3 things to mention.

First of all, The orange dot behind the cockpit should be a charging port for the batteries.

Secondly, the screwdriver slot is indeed under the red line. The red line is there so the engineers don't forget in what orientation the screw should be to close it. The red line is usually accompanied with the word "ZU" meaning "closed".

Thirdly, You can really use this link. SPECTRE76 made it and it will help you a lot with the markings on the plane.

Good luck with the remainder of the skin.

Thanks BlackHellHound1,

I've made the 24 volt charging port, and finished approx. 90% of the stencils now. Dam I forgot about Spectre's link, thanks a bunch anyways, (there's a few on there I don't have).

I changed the exhaust colour, and you will be able to select from three different exhaust textures, when finished.

Also fixed a few panel lines and added more on the canopy. I have nearly finished a subtle panel highlight layer, to complement some of the panel edges, and added more to the chipping layer. I know the chips are quite large, this was only to see what the metal layer, (for the metal chip layer I made), would look like underneath the paint layer. I think the colour of the chipping layer is better with a variation of colours tones, rather than just one colour.

Hello everyone,

I have made further improvements, to what I have already attempted earlier.

Improvements as follows:

Panel lines and highlights,  Rivets and shadows, More RLM's to choose from, as some of the FS colours have many variations, rusty exhaust added to choose from, Canopy Panel lines, 2 simular Decals sets to choose from, Prop warn edges, screws, prop blur.

What I need to do is:

Line up the ------- ZU's, or > add all small Decals to a separate layer for you all to do?

Adjust chipping layer

Finnish the Mottled Paint layer, in which  you should be ale to change the colour, if you wish to do so.

Dirt, oil leaks layer and that's about it..

What's cool is: If you wish to fly a newer looking 109, you will be able to in the future.

Marvelous work Boomerang! I have to say though, the chipping layer seems a bit too pixelated for my tastes. This can easily be adjusted though.

Great work! :drinks:

Thanks guy's ^^

The metal chipping has been one of the hardest to decide which way to go on, so I decided to go between chipped and warn.

I have finished a very basic camo pattern template, (it's more like a rough guide really), to assist folks that are newer to painting. I didn't get the chance to screenshot it for you today, but it's based on a standard Gustav pattern I found. Btw I'm not very good at finding patterns.

I seemed to achieve success in making a shaded layer for the top half of the aircraft. This layer tends to darken the colour in some area's, but it seems to add more shape to all coloured templates.

Nearly finished the warn paint layer, (the lines are many).

Good work. On a side note, as far as I know the square-lines around the 'Nur hier betreten' should be coloured in RLM 23 (red).

Hello all,

Well here it is, weighing in @ 245.96MB :)  I decided to pull the handbrake on this, as it's a template after all. There may be some things I might of missed, if so go for it. You have a 4k Template now. I apologise in advance, as I don't have PS, only Gimp, so I'm unable to convert the *.xcf to a *.psd. Have fun, hope you like it. Time spent: Hours upon hours, learnt a lot.

G4, layers will be added at a later date.

You have a 4k Template now. I apologise in advance, as I don't have PS, only Gimp, so I'm unable to convert the *.xcf to a *.psd.

Gimp can export to psd format by using the 'File' -> 'Export As' function (mind you gimp can not export layer groups and layers with filter mode "grain merge" and "grain extract" due to limited psd compatebility).

Anyway, thx for the template :salute:

I was not sure about the colours, as the original template appeared different to the G series within the viewer, so  I managed to find a more recent photo of the colours.

The original colour I used appeared to saturated. I have added more layers, and will let you all know when the file is updated on line.
