If every aircraft in the sim is considered and you have the time/desire to learn them all, or at least every aircraft featured in a campaign.

My concern is the content available to justify the purchase of any given module.

WWII is a good example, as is the MiG 15.

F14 will likely be another. A smart developer would have several campaigns in the works for that aircraft. Release a new Top Gun campaign yearly, etc.

That said 3 short pages/28 campaigns is not impressive considering the number of aircraft they’re divided between, how easy the editor is - not to mention the time span we’re talking about at this juncture.

Hopefully more people will step up to fill in the gaps like Leon is doing sine apparently  ED isn’t that concerned.

Others who are learning the editor like Wolf - good job. Maybe you’ll end up creating a campaign as well. I encourage you to give it a go.

Now as someone already indicated I’m repeating myself so I’ll give it a rest.

Yeah I made a pretty good mission with it recently by my own standards anyway. Definitely enjoying it. It’s got everything a mission usually has, and as I learned randomization it keeps things interesting.

But I need to learn a few more things now to take it to the next step. I want to have real radio messages for example, and also need to work on the victory conditions. Do you have any advice on how to make missions more interesting or exciting?

Sometimes I find the best missions are those I would least expect. There’s no action, even but it’s just pure atmosphere!

Good to know about the additional user made content - it appeared to me last time I looked that it was all on those 3 pages.

Thanks for the clarification.

"Although we released a greatly improved and free Nimitz-class aircraft carrier at the time of the Hornet release, we are also working on a separate Nimitz-class aircraft carrier module. This product will have an incredible level of detail and include such features as a detailed and operable LSO and Air Boss stations, detailed modeling of the hangar, animated deck crew, briefing room, and control of the carrier.

Once this project is complete, the team will finish up the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and then return to and release the updated Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier."

MiG-19 nearing release:

Now we only need 9 additional aircraft and a Vietnam map, and we'd finally have a historical battle scenario 🤩

I like the MiG-19.  To my eye it is probably the prettiest of all the MiG family.  I hope there will be an appropriate environment and adversaries for it one day.

Map of Suez canal-Sinai for 6-days war of 1967, Attrition war till '70 and Yom-Kipur of '73. Would go well with MiG-21 as well....and some Dassault aviation products and their Israeli derivates 😉

Nice one Brano.  Didn't they go nipping at the heels of F-105's in Vietnam too?

Peoples republic of Vietnam established 925. Fighter Regiment equipped with Chinese clones of MiG-19 = J-6. In april 1969 they had 9 of them. Overall 54 J-6s were delivered. But it was a little maintenance nightmare, not enough spare parts, poor repair shops equipment, damp weather eating into electric wiring etc. 925.FR became operational in '72 and had its fighting highligt during operation "Linebacker" against F-4 Phantoms of Tactical Fighter Wings of USAF (usually 432nd TAW). 925.FR usually flew in cooperation with 921.FR equipped with MiG-21s.

What I would like is an early MiG-21F-13, always preferred the lighter look compared to the later models...

In all my years of being an aircraft guy, that one somehow escaped my notice completely.

Neat looking aircraft.

MiG 15 is still my favorite though.

You should see it in plan view.  It looks like a MiG-15 about to make a jump to lightspeed.  :)

Not unless DCS goes the RoF route and adds handguns.

Edit: You could probably mod some AIM-9's or R-73's onto it with a little effort.

I bet a AIM-9 has the same weight as the whole Christen Eagle... 😂

Yes I must say estimated time of release "certainly not 5 years" doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that I will be playing it any time soon!  I imagine it will be excellent though as I must say DCS SP content is really good stuff.

However, this is a highly complex undertaking and it will take time, but certainly not "5 years".

Maybe 8-10 years, then.

Any words of wisdom about the Normandy map these days?

I bought it months ago, it looked and ran like a dog's breakfast, and returned it.

Has it been improved?

I would say it has gotten a little smoother , however it is still demanding to run - more so than the other maps imho.

Not really.

Unfortunately the campaigns with the spitfire are still awful to play, with or without ASW/MS, as in the laters case, the spitfire prop causes too many artifacts (can normally ignore but in normandy campaigns it get's ridiculous), and in the formers (no MS) it's just too stuttery.

Spitfire devs really need to fix the propeller so it jives with ASW/MS as all the other WW2 modules do, which are so much better in VR performance wise. Trouble is the spit is my favorite module, so I just put up with it, and I have kinda got used to it for the most part. It beats the alternative IMO.

The epsom campaign was unplayable (first mission anyway) last time I checked, but if you can put up with the spitfire propeller artifacts (I turn my gun reticle of when not in combat) then sweet Jesus is it immersive! I'm kinda saving these spitfire campaigns for the future though myself though, when hopefully some fixes will come along.

Sadly the other german modules have no normandy campaigns, so you will need to design some. Highly recommend you do that anyway really, as the missions can be streamlined with VR performance in mind. But it has to be said, mission making is rather time consuming, and nothing beats flying other peoples missions with all the surprises and polish they often bring. But rememeber you don't always need to make a mission, just edit one and make it run better in VR.

Check out the Mustang campaigns, as the mustang works much better in VR/ASW. I havent tried these campaigns myself yet -despite buying them- because I suck in the mustang basically, but I reckon the missions will no doubt be set up with more historical accuracy (IE above 20,000 feet) in mind, so kills won't be as difficult.

I think normandy is a beautiful map, but the trees from a low altitude still let it down visually IMO. Performance is perfectly playable, but as mentioned above, it's best to make some missions yourself, as many of the user made missions are much too demanding for VR.

One thing I will say though is VR/DCS is strange. Mine was running like crap recently and I thought it was the update, then suddenly its working as good as it was when we got the big update a few months ago.

Might sound weird, but you gotta break it in a bit sometimes as well! Keep in mind the first mission is always full of stutters as things (damage model) are loaded in for the first time, so don't take that mission as any yardstick. The next time you play it should be much smoother in this regard.

What I do is set up a random dogfight, and before I start on any big missions or campaigns I fly around and fight, in order to get the stutters out of its system. It works pretty well.

Well DCS got simple enough ME for single missions , COD too. But making a good campaign in Both require a higher user interface. MP missions in COD require coding and a great deal of learning. So I am not sure all in all ME in GB is that much harder to learn, just another way of doing so.
