Some notes on today's sorties

1. Hurricane II with the 14 pounds boost engine is a beast

2. The ground targets are surprisingly resistant to the 40mm HE rounds. I need to record this next time

but when I hit a truck with 2x 40mm HE I expect it to die no exceptions. I guess this more issue with DM

and not the server so I assume nothing can be done.

On the issue of SRS, I was playing earlier today and the client list showed about 5 people connected on each side with either side having about 35 players in the server. it might be the case that many players either don't have the SRS application installed or don't run it when playing on Finnish. Other then automatically connecting when joining the server I couldn't find any information about SRS on the server website, I also dont see any information about SRS on the OP, so it might be lack of knowledge that it's enabled on the server. I'd love to communicate and coordinate with other players, but I don't feel comfortable being the first to speak up; its less of a server issue and more of a personal anxiety, but others might feel the same.

Hi, I'm Moostafa and I'm happy to be part of this community. I don't know what drives you to play the game but for me, it's good friends, teamwork, great competition, and the challenge of seeing how many kills I can achieve in a single virtual life. 
 

The end of the current tour is fast approaching, so I thought now would be a good time to congratulate those pilots that were able to achieve some fantastic scores. 
 

Think it's easy?
 

An "ACE", the highest card in the deck. Of the 7,879 pilots that have flown at least one sortie during the current tour. Only 749 of them have earned the title ACE by shooting down 5 enemy aircraft in a single virtual life. Of those only 81 have 20 or more kills, and only 11 have 50 or more. 3 have made the century mark.

I too would like to make use of SRS. I tried it today but didn’t hear anyone. I tried the channels 1 to 4.

Another great feature of SRS is that it plays nicely with both Discord and TeamSpeak. My squadron uses our Discord server as our general squadron channel. We then tune to a common SRS channel on radio #1, using that channel as the mission channel for the sortie we are flying. The second radio is for wingman pairings. This is usually 11 for the first pair, 12 for the second, 13 for the third and so on. 

 

At the start of each sortie we try to remember to announce our intentions on SRS channel 1 and across the text buffer but we don't always remember to do it. So, if you see us on, and feel like joining us for a sortie or two just pull up the SRS client list and tune to the common channel we are using and check-in. 

 

I will start using it as well. I used to use SRS on Combat Box but having my squad mates talking in Spanish over Discord and then English over SRS made me go crazy sometimes haha but I see that it is quite popular on Finnish so time to start using it.

As of 1130am British Time today, the invulnerable tanks seem to be still with us. Seen at German front lines south.

 

Update: Tanks still invulnerable at 2pm after 'app update'. I sat directly behind them firing at the turret ring, engine compartment, cupola ring. No effect.

The world knows that your failure plays over and over in your mind. It's okay, you're not alone. Just tell yourself that the flight is too long, or your efforts are better served at the frontline.

This is not a news. There is a long time ago that PzIV on depots are not destructible (except with bombs).

So I have a suggestion for the server i would like to see your opionion on. Until air marshal is released the only way of getting team coordination is either using public voice here or SRS. And when for example i am on private discord with the squad i use SRS but main problem is people seem to like using the chat function instead of SRS. 

So here is my suggestion. Make standard phrases that are to be used in the chat to make chat non cluttered and easier to get requests and text coms become more immersive and effective. These standard phrases/messege templates could then be written under maybe news from the front so everyone sees them. You could have one messege that is a template for solo bombers/attacker or a squad/group of bombers requesting escort to the target or CAP. What would be even better is if there were chat commands that could be made for this becuase i can imagine what i am suggesting now can be hard to implement as for it to work these messege templates have to be in the briefing screen so everyone sees them.

 

And my second suggestion i come up with is this. What if when more than x amount of attackers are present on or near your frontline placements everyone on your team would get a messege that reads something like PROVIDE DEFENSIVE CAP SECTOR X IMMEDIATELY. Would make it more immersive and easier than having to bring up screen. And to add to this a similar thing could be made when more than x amount of friendly ground attackers are present over enemy frontline in a certain Grid there could be the same capitalized messege so that friendky fighters know exactly in what grid of a frontline sector the friendly attacjers are attacking. 

 

Highly appreciate opinions on this suggestion :)

I’m afraid I’m with UFO on this one for tanks there is no challenge now the game is dead . You can spend hours now without seeing another player from either side the epic tank battles have gone. Now is just points gathering.

I agree , we die anyway but it really takes  time 🤨🤔i m not used to it 😊

It is disconcerting to talk about the balance of the Plane Set, when there are things that the German planes in simulator are much more preferable than the early Allied planes. On the other hand, in the week I seldom see that the number of participants of the allied side exceeds, by 10 or 2 to 1 the number of pilots, as the side of the axis powers does. If we are going to talk about balance then in the 44 maps there would only have to be half the pilots of the axis or even airplanes. And in the end it is a simulation game not a historical reality, but someone is always complaining because his side is underprivileged. If you fly with the preferences of one side, it will always happen. Those who like to fly as an ally, the stress of the pilot, does not allow a virtual pilot to maneuver so much until he faints, the blackout comes much earlier than expected, I have recorded fights at a low altitude but very low against a 109, where the 109 maneuvers so Well as a yak, where if we speak of reality the Luftwaffe was prohibited from entering dogfights at less than 2000mts because the Soviet planes were better at that height. Don't complain to much about German Planeset, and you can't even talk about bias since in the first planeset 109F2 is added, with 15MM which is OK.

Then in all the first half of the rotation Germany has an historical advantaje which is obvious, untill 5th planeset, when its probably mid 1943 and Spitfire IX, P-47D22 and La-5FN arrives. And even with that is not unfair since Germany in that point has 190A5 190A6, if you don't know how to handle them is your problem not planeset's. Also i don't hear you complain to much about G-14 fighting without P-51 (x4 MG) opposition as IRL, P-51D appears with the K4 and D9 in the other side. More than balance you want convenience. So don't complain to much. Best thing you can do right now is fly allies and see the other side of reality, since there is no excuse to not even try fly another side than germany

This.

I play on this server not for very long time but in that period i have observed the same names doing the very same thing - fly axis with early planesets and as soon as allies get to specific plane - they switch sides. EVERY time.

I do not know if would be possible (or tbh even wanted by majority here) but what about TAW approach - you pick a side for this specific map and until it's done, you can't change it?

Possible, but opens another can of worms. People like to be able to switch around, and some people actively switch side to balance the teams. Our approach is to try to keep the server as free as possible, a sandbox for people to play in as they choose.

Has anything changed on the server to the detriment of the tanks?

Twice on recent nights after travelling cross country to a rear station and then towards enemy troops myself and squad mates were taken out by some super gun. Single hit. Boom, We were destroyed. T34 the first time then 4 of us in Panzer IV's Bang, bang, bang bang, 4 deaths, all exploded?

 

Does this mean now that we can not approach any of the bases, depots?

 

If so are tanks now just expected to wait for other tanks to come out of the spawn area?

It is  somewhat better  now having the 109 F2  in planeset 1.    Not having  the 20mm cannon seems foolish as by then,  June 41,  it was standard.  The F4  should really be available in planeset 1  as it  was in production before  barbarossa began,  it should certainly be available by planeset 2  not 3.    F4 should match the planeset the allies get the Hurricane with 4 20's  and the A20.

lol no, the F4 would be an overkill. FVP is not a 100% historical server; it's more balanced.

 

To be honest Im not a fan of the F2 in the first planeset. Good old E7 only was fun.

Also, there isnt much difference/variety as it is between the first and the second planeset.

(Kinda like between planesets 6 and 7 on the red side)

Frontline has AI T-34s and ZiS-2 on the Allied side, and AI PzIV and Pak38 on the Axis side. The tank spawns have a single heavy AAA each with orders to attack ground targets. That's perhaps what got you.

 

Using HE rounds, it should be possible to take out the dugouts and pillboxes in the enemy defences. Just need a handful of rounds each.

It would appear not everyone knows how to use SRS for IL2 so here is the tall and skinny of it.

First go to this thread and follow the instructions of how to get it on your IL2 computer.  

And Now I have made an idiots guide to using it and posted it to my YouTube channel.  Just watch it and see even an idiot like me can use it.
As I made this video it was at peak time and there were 84/84 people on the server and only 13, including me, were using SRS and of those one, I know for a fact was AFK, leaving only 11 actual players using it.  Of them 4 Allies were on prime channel 1 and two were on a secondary channel 5 with only a total of five players using SRS as Allied. Of the Axis side there were 4 players and none were on the same channel. and another 5 players were not in the server therefore could not be connected to the voice chat.

It's not that people can't use it but a lot of people are intimidated because you can change radio channels and even though it says 5 channels you can actually choose up to 25 channels.

The only thing left to do is to get it, put it on your computer and talk with the same side players during your in game time.

Your comment on this topic is not correct. There was no general rule to not engage Russian planes below 2000 m. In fact most fighting in Russia happened below 3000 m and it was difficult for German pilots to adjust to the conditions on the Western front, when they have been ordered there, because most fighting happened above 5000 m.

The 109 was capable to do dogfights in tight circles and sometimes the MK 108 jammed due to the gravity forces in the turns. Many of the "Experten" have been "pure dog fighters" doing turning fights, e.g. Major Lipfert from JG 52 with 202 kills. With the introduction of the YAK 3 (which was first neglected by the Luftwaffe high command) it was recommended to stay above 3000 m, because that plane was superior in all disciplines below 3000 m to the Me 109. Above 3000 m the Daimler Benz offered better performance in comparison to the YAK 3)

This would a lot simpler to implement, if we could get the coordinates of every moving object when we wanted. But we cannot. We basically need to sniff logs for shooting/bomb dropping on targets. The spawns on the front of course already provide this info to some extent.

Surely we do not read the same books or encyclopedias, if the luftwaffe, rather the 109 went down low altitudes to fight, but it was not advisable, most of the Russian fighters had better turning radius, only the 109E and 109F4, could be competitive, but at high speed mostly not low speed ... although testing the turning radius in the sim, you end up with very rare and contradictory data. Perhaps to balance the sim, rather than respecting historical tables.🤷‍♂️

To make the tank play more enjoyable would it be possible to have the CP points in a local town. Once the point has been captured the town should then be defended.  As each defending tank gets killed and has to respawn, the defences get weaker until the attackers can capture the CP. Roles are then reversed.

Yeah the famous datas.. The sim isnt perfect but aint that far either.

 

Also flying low doesnt means you have to rely on your turning capabilities. But well..

When there's a town in a suitable position, the CP points are placed in the town.

Generally, I like the idea. Some issues:

- Placing the defences would likely require manual work of mapping positions where the defences are placed into. We could, of course, place the defences to the nearest already mapped "free area", taking into account the direction to the enemy positions, but I think this would be sub-optimal.

- This is linked to the first issue above. We currently use the flag for the control mechanic. IIRC, the radius for the flag can be set, so technically we could have it cover the defences area, so that you really would need to destroy the defending tanks/guns before you can start capturing. But it can be confusing if you can get to the flag unhindered due to defences being placed e.g. on a depression in the landscape (remember, we use script to generate missions), and the flag still doesn't move.

 

Any ideas to overcome the issues?
