Finding the cause of a random crash issue (Special Thread #1)

Recommended Posts

If you still have CTDs you should check vcore voltage and CPU oc as well if CPU is overclocked. Maybe start over is best solution. Some CPU cannot maintain stable oc after couple of years and you have to set more vcore or lower multiplier one notch .

Mine issue was memory oc which worked well at 3000mhz 2 years but after that caused ctd. At least lowering mxp mhz helped but really don't know what was the real reason. I'm not that good with computers ;)

Crash when flying Fw 190 A8 with 500kg bomb in Combat Box server. It was running Battle_over_eindhoven_mar_1945-alt mission. That's the new Bodenplatte map. I was flying at around 2000 meters with cruising settings.

Since the last update I get massive crashes, I never had before. They happen at any time. Don´t think, that they implemented so many new bugs. Maybe it is graphic card driver related ?

Does anyone have a stable nvidia driver ? Which version ?

Rhineland Summer map SP Quick Mission (VR) landing disabled plane at Bonn aerodrome.

Sound of plane skidding across the ground continued after plane had come to a rest. Crash to desktop when I ended mission.

No crash report created.

I never had a CTD with this game until I installed Bodenplatte.  Now I get them constantly.  Full system lock requiring a reset.

Bodenplatte isn't ready for prime time.

How do I get a refund until it is fixed properly?

I had problems when using MSI afterburner tool and over locking with nvidia inspector tool

so maybe that’s the root cause, I disabled any overclocking I had and no problems since that for me.

not saying it will work for anyone else but it worked for me

  • When you encountered the crash;
  • In what game mode (MP/QMB/campaign/scenario);
  • In what mission;
  • What did you do before the crash;
  • What happened in the mission before the crash;
  • Additional info you think is relevant to the crash.

1- At the end of a career mission. Always the same type of crashes. When i fly a career mission and the mission is completed i exit the mission and i CTD's.

2- Campaign

3- Escort Bomber in a Spitfire career. But i happens with different nations as well.

4- End the mission after getting the mission complete message.

5- Nothing.

6- Same story crashes for me always after getting mission complete message i end it and instead of going to mission debriefing et cetera it CTD's.

Today, I've been flying with my G-6 over Eindhoven on CombatBox and then:

image.png.c0c8eaa2ddf95bee7756bb3315a0c052.png

And now I'm somehow confused - there is no such file on my disk indeed, but the launcher doesn't feel the need to download anything. Some allied Wunderwaffe or what?

1)  During mission / session sortie, from a few minutes in, to as much as over an hour in.

2)  MP and QMB (so far)

3)  J5 MP server various Arras map missions, and QMB Arras map continuing 1 vs 1.

4)  Just flying around looking for enemies, not engaged in any fights specifically

5)  Nothing noticeable, maybe a slight hesitation, then CTD.

6)  Don't know if this would happen in other Great Battles series; I only fly FC the vast majority of the time, so might not be specific to FC.  Sometimes takes a long time to occur.  Recently uninstalled and reinstalled entire game series in order to try to cure CTDs; but CTD's continue.

I have the same exact issue outlined above.

Since the last update, while playing career missions on the Rhineland map, drops right from the mission completed screen to the desktop.  There is no pattern can be any aircraft or mission type.   No error message of any kind.  When I restart there is no record the mission was completed.  This has happened at least 6 times in about 10 hours of career play time since the last release (4.002).

I have never had CTDs (or any serious errors with IL2) before this.  My system is not overclocked dusty or suffering from any problems except this (it never crashes).  I have the latest drivers.

My basic system specs (if this matters?) are: Win 10, Intel i9 9900K CPU at stock speed, Nvidia Titan RTX as stock speed, 32GB RAM at stock speed, LG monitor 3840 x 1600 running full screen (default monitor resolution). I have no graphics or post processing mods.

Needless to say this is rather frustrating particularly after a very successful mission.  Until this is fixed I will need to hold off on playing for obvious reasons.

I was crashing out of Combat Box after following this net advice in the hopes of better VR performance. "Change your virtual memory page file to 4096."

I reset it to Auto and haven't had a problem since.

Your dumps don't open unfortunately, but the crashes happened in vcruntime140.dll, not in one of the game libraries. I suggest reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017, perhaps it will help.

I also started getting crashes for first time after the patch before Christmas - but in single player - a qmb mission would get right to end of loading then crash to black screen.

Error message was not particularly informative but suggested memory running low.

Problem was also solved by changing Win 10 page file from my applied settings of 2048 - 4096 back to Auto (Windows managed). No problems since.

Did you try to run the DXDiagonse? Run "dxdiag" in the command line. After the diagnostics you should:

1. See which DX version you have

2. If there is any problem found

Maybe you should download the latest DX version from Microsoft and do a fresh install of DX.

And I have just noticed, that you have 8 GB RAM. So be sure, not to overload your system with to high settings in your game,

as for example:

- Landscape distance (better 70 to 100 km)

- Landscape detail (set it rather to normal and not to 4x)

And btw. check your page file size in your virtual memory of Windows - thanks for the good hint @kendo

@302_FRANKOL_PL

I looked at your dxfiag.txt and met, among other problems, a problem with starting the system. If IL2 crashes are repeated, try switching to the normal frequency of your processor.

Hi guys, last week and today I had a several  game crashes never experienced before. I play BoS campaign, with a Me.109F-4 and I was escorting Ju.87 in bombing mission. During a dogfight game crashed without a reasonable explanation. Just before the crash the view flashed between the game and Steam VR start-up screen. I re-start the mission and all works fine without issues. Sometimes Steam VR crashes also.

Here the newest dump file as indicated at the begin of this topic.

Many thanks for all your help!

Ciao!
