Well, but you also cannot deny that any German Ground Pounder is at almost 10x the Risk of getting shot down or killed doing his work than his VVS Counterpart.

The generally overmodlled VYa effect against Tanks, which allows normal Il-2s to destroy upwards of 5, up to 8 or more Medium Tanks in one flight is simply overwhelming and makes the 37mm pretty much unnecessary.

If you disallow their use with AP only, meaning only mixed belts, the 37s would become more attractive as well.

I've done lately really many column attacks together with many il2s and never seen that each il would destroy more than 2 - 3 medium tanks.

If the above would be true only 2 il2 would be needed in one run to wipe out the column (after the aaa was down), but each time we need to come back several times and not always get the column down.

I've seen only (while participating in attack) once or twice that we managed to wipe out the whole column in one run but we attacked with something like 8 aircraft and the column was also not very big.

It might be also the case that we are not very skilled at it.

well you are looking at isolated stats. not the overall larger picture. you say axis lose more ground attackers. sure. but as evidence right now in this map. axis are about to possibly win on aircraft kills and if not its going to be down to the last aircraft each. so logically it means the LW A2A advantage offsets the ground attackers weakness. addressing one balance aspect without looking at the overall picture is pointless.

Question:

Is it possible to limit the outdoor temperature to 5 ° Celsius on the summer maps?

Temperature has an extreme effect on flight behavior!

Thank you

Well, Weather Variation is well modelled and pretty accurate. At High Temperatures your Engine performs a lot worse than when it's cold. I experienced this myself, so did 6./ZG26 5tuka, which brought both of us pretty close to Real Life Death.

Flying Motorplanes at High Temps and High Loads is no fun.

So please TAW guys, don't listen to him.

Hello!

Im not sure where else to ask this.

I made an account on the TAW Website, then realised i had used the wrong name (I intended to use SirModernisation as opposed to Sir_Modernisation) and i cant seem to change it.

I cant make a new account because my Email address is bound to the wrong name.

How should i go about changing my TAW profile name? i cant seem to find a way to do it

Thanks

You can change it under profile after you login.

Its not zero here. I see some take offs there (9 take offs, 1 landing, 3 deaths, etc)

Really???

Now, that is VERY strange - cause I just logged in to check it, and I even made a refresh with F5 - but for me everything is still on ZERO... :(

EDIT:

Aaahhh!!! Now I got it! My stats appear under pilot name "Olham" - although I enlisted my pilot as "Wolfram_Harms".

Do you know a solution fpr that dilemma, perhaps?

If your first flight in the server took place before you registered, that name will be your username for the campaign. If you registered before you made ur first flight and, if the taw registered name and il2 account name match, that will be your name for the campaign. In the latter situation, you can change your username under profile after you login with ur corresponding password. Otherwise you have to fly with the previous username. Just always make sure your il2 and taw accounts match names.

Hope that helps

Seriously this is insane. Set temperature to 5° in summer, remove clouds because its too hard to attack ground targets from dive any more "grate ideas" ? Maybe disable wind because its too hard to takeoff or land ?

No, no and no. TAW is not a kindergarten.

I flew on the TAW server last night and initially logged on fighting as the Germans but wanted to change sides to fight for Russia. I didnt realise that the first time you log on it takes that as the side you are fighting for so when I tried to change when in the game it wouldn't allow me. I was then told on chat that I would have to change my side on the website by changing my user name. The first person that told me this didn't explain that I had to change this on the main IL2 website and told me to do a search for TAW and IL2, so I registered on the TAW site with the new name. I then went back on the server and still couldnt change sides. Someone else then explained that I had to change on the main IL2 site which I duly did. I logged on just now to the server and initially selected an IL2 plane as Russia and all was good. I eventually got shot down then on my second attempt it was still fine. Then on my third sortie I then got a message saying I couldnt fight for Russia again and I got kicked off. I am completely confused as to what is going on. Can anyone help?

Thanks. However, one minor Weather Issue is the Unrealisitic Wind Speed Distribution with altitude and probability.

This is roughly what Wind Distribution should be.

f2big.png

And Probability of occurence can be found here for Example. You also find the normal Wind Directions on that Page, including for example the average Wind Direction around Moscow is South West.

http://wisuki.com/statistics/553/moscow

https://www.worldweatheronline.com/moscow-weather-averages/moscow-city/ru.aspx

For Moscow for example the Clouds are almost constant in Winter, and 25% in Summer etc.

See? Nothing changed in plansets, AA, etc. The only thing that changed the last couple of days was well organized  quorum of blue players not risking planes in a nonesense, doing the right tasks, and also helped by some reds who instead of holding back and looking after their planes in critical definition stage, they went for useless ground pounding the last 2 days when we started to run short on planes. Result= Draw. And blues had the chance to win it.

So again, most important aspects to win an online campaign are:

1. Having well organized players who care about map outcome.
2. Achieveing air domination in the most important sectors in order tu fulfill tasks.

3. Big quorum difference

Keep these 3 points in mind before rushing to forums in a complaint parade

Also thank you =LG= squad for creating TAW; it was my first participation and made me remember good old ADW days.

Salute you all!

Who would like a Tennis like System, with a Matchball System with Bonus Rounds on Velikiye Luki Map?

It is not an easy thing to implement Velikiye Luki map into campaign. Its all about game logic and timing. We are considering to add this map but nothing more for now.

Hey all! I have been having a blast on TAW, and I only just got pulled into it last week. Let me just say how incredible this server is in my opinion! It's absolutely the most fun I've had flying outside my ACG campaign in a long time.

That said I have a question.

Are kills that are made on missions where you are captured or killed not count towards your overall stats?

If you are killed or captured they are still recorded, your kill streak is reset if either of the two happens though.

They are recorded globally (they count as for the overall kills on your team side) but don't increase your personal kills number in your stats

Sorry to say, but you and your buddies need to do some training. You can easily destroy german tanks with 23mm AP Vya even from the front!!!!! Going for sideway attack is easier, but i was astonished when i found out that i could take the german tanks from the front, it didnt need much more ammo compared to the side attacks. Just see CheckSix videos, he has some IL2 tank busting videos that he bags 7-8 tanks with easy.

Right now the 37s are just useless for the IL2s because the 23mm can do everything the 37 does, but has way more ammo, and it also has less drag.

Professional Il-2 Tankbuster here. I can not confirm your claim. Ns-37 is quite a bit better than VYa-23.

With turbulence and crosswind the 23mm becomes harder to use against tanks, because you need a good 1.5-2 second burst to destroy them in a single pass. The 37 is the safest choice imho. The NS-37 with it's 100 rounds of ammo has a greater potential than the VYa-23. Around 30 rounds needed for the 23mm with 300 as available ammo, in comparison to around 6 rounds needed with 100 rounds available for the NS-37.

Has anyone tried to destroy the red tanks (T34 and KV) from VYa-23?

Hi all, I am still having issues using the TAW server. I have managed to switch sides by creating a new username through my IL2 account which means I can now play as Russia on the server - I accidentally originally started as Germany which was my initial problem. However, I now can't seem to log into the TAW website with that new name to see what planes I have available, as the site has my old username which was assigned as Germany associated with my email address. Can anyone point me in the right direction to sort this out. Cheers

Hey! Wall of text warning.

With regards to this campaign (and previous) I'd like to say and suggest the following. This is my first TAW as a German player; every other time I've been Russian. I'm therefore familiar now with both sides and their advantages and disadvantages. As such:

A. The main issue that causes the imbalance between sides is that, for whatever reason, newer pilots mostly don't fly Russian aircraft. I'm not sure why this is, because the Russian planes are actually more new player friendly. A 109 is a plane that takes some time to get used to because it's not a dogfighter really, where Russian aircraft are. Germans also generally make less of an effort to coordinate as a team. This is frankly quite frustrating for the more experienced pilots on the German side. There's a large segment of them that don't know what they are doing, don't communicate, and are a general drag on the team overall. When it comes right down to it, teamwork is OP, as it should be. After thinking about it though, I think there's something that can be done about this, which may help both sides. You have to register to be on TAW. After completing your registration form, if instead of the current message, if it could be replaced to a link to the TAW discord. Ideally, if a way could be made to then automatically then register you on the discord to the side that you are playing. This then would place you into the German or Russian channel (and restrict you from going into the opposite) and then you could use it to coordinate with your side, either by text messages or by voice comms. The message that I'd suggest after registering is that while not required, you are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to join the discord. Since TAW at heart is a team experience I think this would enhance the overall play aspect for everyone.

B. Anti aircraft. As noted previously, Russian AA has a 37mm mounted on the back of trucks while Germans have no equivalent. First, the thing that I wonder is how common are these guns? It would seem to me that the most common would be quad maxims, next would be HMG mounts (which aren't in game), then 25mm, then 37mm. Numerically are there too many 37mm? As a side issue, there is reason to suspect that the quad maxim overperforms, to put it lightly. There are vids of wings being sawed off and other similar nastyness that would seem questionable. You would expect that you would get aircraft shot down because of radiator holes, but severe structural damage would be unlikely. This however isn't an issue for the TAW team, but something that should be taken up and investigated by the playerbase and brought to 1CG's attention. As a separate question, is the defense of the mobile columns too reliant on AA? Shouldn't the defense of them be more encouraged to be player based instead of AI based? This should perhaps be a question to ask.

C. Aircraft preference registration. As everyone knows, you can select what you want added into your hangar based on what you like to use, fighters or bombers. I would submit to you this leaves a issue if you don't really prefer either, and you prefer attackers. If you really are a tank killing IL-2 specialist (or HS-129 specialist) you'd probably like to select this as an option instead. When I flew russian this didn't seem to be a problem, but now as a German it's actually oddly difficult to get the Hs-129 or the 110G. I also suspect if you're a bomber specialist and want to get another Ju-88 that having to get a Hs-129 first would be annoying. I'd recommend a third option.

D. Heavy bombloads for German bombers. It's been pointed out that the largest bombs were uncommon and reserved for high value targets. However, the server just flat removes the option. I would suggest that very limited amounts be made available depending on depot status, and be made available for use on the 111 at least. This gives incentive to either destroy the depot to remove them as an option, and also the reverse on the german side. My idea is that each map rotation there be a few available with undamaged depots - say 4(?) of each type larger than 1000kg.

The rest of my suggestions are in regards to planesets or planes. I think that TAW should consider using a more historical planeset than is currently used:

1. 23mm on the LaGG. Great weapon. Also, from what I can tell, as common as a unicorn as an actual armament on a LaGG. Should be either flat out removed or restricted to a few per map like the heavy bombs above. 37mm apparently was more common and this should be reflected, however this should also be heavily controlled because from what I've seen frequently players are taking this to kill tanks which is not what should be happening. 20mm and .50 cal is a perfectly good armament as anyone who has flown the Yak-1 S127 can tell you anyway.

2. Pe-2. There is really zero reason that as soon as the S87 is made available, that it can be instantly upgraded to the S110. For those who don't know, if you select the blister turret on the plane (who wouldn't) that actually isn't the S87. That is the series 110 change. When the S87 becomes available on the stalingrad maps (or earlier) the blister turret should be locked out until the S110 becomes available. This makes a difference because the S87 has a more restricted field of fire and side attacks thus are easier.

3. Persistence of obsolescent designs. In the later maps, the most common russian fighter should be the Yak, not the LaGG which was phased out. The F4 should make way for the G2 and then the G4. In short, the +1 aircraft should be the most common type being used in the time frame, not the oldest.

4. Moscow maps (or any early map) should restrict the bombload that the stuka can carry. This may seem to be...unneeded considering how vulnerable the stuka was, but the D model stuka didn't exist then. The Germans were using B or R models, which could carry a max of 1 500KG centerline and 4 50 KG under wing. To emulate the B models this should be the max loadout it can carry. Considering you're getting more armor, more power, and a MG81Z instead of a MG15 than you should have this is not much of an issue.

5. Personally I'd like it if the 37mm on the stuka was restricted to later maps when it was actually used. In my experience the best way to kill columns anyway is to carpet bomb them with 50kg. Loitering around them to kill tanks with guns is very dangerous as they make easy targets for fighters and it might be an improvement.

6. Perhaps the Hs-129 with the Mk 101 should be available earlier instead. There were 110's armed with the 101 during the Battle of Britain so this weapon was available early. As a separate note, the Hs should be easier to get, as it's a better low alt attacker than the Stuka anyway.

7. It should be considered if that the E model 110 should be replaced by the G before it would be normally available. The issue is that the E is probably the worst 110 made. Team Fusion actually has stated that they considered adding it but decided not to because most players would consider it a downgrade from the C models already available in CLoD. Combined with this, there's no F model in game that should replace it and be present for BoS. While obviously the G model is better than the F, it's closer than the E, and if you restrict some of the loadouts on it (1000KG, 37mm and 20mm gunpack) you'll get something much closer to the neighborhood. Consider adding the G as a earned option on middle maps with the listed restrictions and then have it totally replace the E (with removed restrictions) on late maps.

8. FW190 U17 mod. While this is the right name for this, it had a better known name later: the Fw-190 F3. This was a common attack plane, designed to replace the Ju-87 which was obviously obsolete at this time. The F3 was built on the airframe of the A5, with the U17 engine for low level attacks and the outboard MG FF/M guns were removed as unnecessary. Because of this I would recommend that when the A5 is available, it should be split into 2 aircraft. First is the A5 with the U17 locked out as a fighter. Second, is to have the F3 configuration as an attacker. The F3 would have the U17 mod locked,  and with the outboard MGFF/M guns deleted locked out. If it could actually say F3 in the selection screen that'd be great.

If you read all of this, thanks. The most important suggestion is the first I think, but I would like to think at least that the rest could be at least discussed. Thank you.

in fact, devs can make historically correct Bf 110 G-2 without 1.42 ata (i.e. just like M-82F or Merlin 45) exactly for these purposes

Better would be a Me-110F. Hopefully a project in the future for some enterprising 3rd party, since all the art assets already exist.

Reasonable suggestions

However limiting a weapon or plane based on how people use it is a slippery slope so i really cant agree with that (lagg cannon)

Re heavy bombs agree they should be available and limited numbers but also they should only be available from the rear most airfields too. Logistically these bombs and in fact the aircraft themselves to be honest would not be operating from a frontline tactical airfield

General note

While realism is a good goal , balance always has to be considered in doing so.

As mentioned before looking at aa stats and the impact on the campaign in isolation is very likely to result in a lopsided outcome.

May be possible to add some economic? To use modifications u should buy it? So every CM give pilot some points and if you take modification you spend points for it. Also different modification will cost different amount of points.

Just noticed that the Germans dominate the Kuban map everytime (in terms of airfield and ground attack, they lose more planes and pilots). Does the map encourage more Germans to play bomber/ attacker? I am curious on the matter.

I did a little google-fu on this question, I found it to be an interesting question. In so far as I can tell, based on raw production numbers the 61-K 37 mm anti-aircraft gun was the most produced of the three weapons with 20,000 built between 1939 and 1945. Next seems to be quad maxim rig with 12,000 produced between 1931 and 1942. Last comes the 25 mm 72-K anti-aircraft gun with between 2,000 and 5,000 units produced starting in around 1940 and going until about 1945 (for some reasons the numbers on the 72-K varied quite a lot.) Logically, if there are more of the 37 mm guns made they will be seen in greater numbers on the front, so I don't see a problem there; unless my numbers are way off. I wasn't able to find any reliable information on the deployment of these weapons though, so I will consed that it is possible, however unlikely, that more of the less powerful guns were pushed to the battles of Stalingrad, Moscow and Kuban.

As for the maxim causing major structural damage to a plane, it seems possible. First the round is sizable at 7.62 mm and leaves the muzzle at around 740 m/s. That is no inconsequential force. Now consider that there are 4 of these rounds hitting around the same place on a plane. Granted the round won't blow the wing off a 109 all by itself but it doesn't have to. The wing is under load and the way the 109 is designed the skin of the wing is also load bearing. If you weaken that structure enough the wing loading itself can do the rest, if you add the extra load of maneuvering to the basic wing load produced by normal flight then structural failing in the wing is more and more likely. Of course more testing would be needed to come to any solid conclusions as to the in-game performance as compared to real world performance.
