I think most of the locked account problems would be solved if the auto register function was removed with unregistered players being kicked.

It would also reduce the number of dumb questions and complaining that occurs on chat because people have never been to the website.

Yes you're right. We didn't have enough time to do it.

Good Evening TAW Team!

May it be possible to raise mission duration to 3 hours? So it could be at least possible to accomplish long high alt bombing runs even if you do not join the server right after a mission start.

You sometimes have 45minutes to target and 45 minutes back (kuban for example) count in starting procedures, taxi, line up, platzrunden, and you cant even get to land with your squadron. Whats the matter raising the time?

This server is the worst. First of all, No communication in chat. 80 people in game, not a single one answer my question ( wich was, how to start the Mig-3 , because the engine didnt start )

Then, I decide to choose  a different airplane, to try if the engine will start. a YAK-1.  I exclaim in the chat that the Yak-1 engine does start. and Suddenly I get a message in chat from the admin :  Hobotango you cannot use the Yak-1, take another plane or you will be kicked/banned.    I only have the time to reply back  : " Oh  ", before I get the ban.   Couldnt even aknowledge their message and have the time to switch to another plane.

Wow, very pleasant.

Hey hobo,

Seems you're pretty new to the game. Welcome.

TAW is not "the worst" - it's just an advanced server with quite a few special rules and things regarding planeset, etc. I would not recommend it for a new player like yourself. First, you should learn basic tasks like starting your engine in single player. Afterwards, progress to beginner friendly servers like Wings of Liberty and Berloga. Only then do you want to try something like this server.

If you have trouble with learning the basics like starting your engine, post a question to the General Discussion forum and you will get lots of answers. Note that since this aims to be a simulation, there is a learning curve, but you keep from getting frustrated and just ask for help on the forums, you will do just fine. Generally, chat is not used for questions like because the answers tend to be too long for chat, and other players prefer to keep the chat conversation relevant to the mission at hand (not general things like how to start your engine). Another great option is to find some friends on teamspeak and they can help you learn.

Good luck!

Dude, I was in a realism clan back in Cliffs of Dover.  I know how to start an engine. Im new to BoS yes.  But not to flight sim. I dont like to ask questions like this either and I usually keep from doing so, and I sat on the airfield for about 15 minutes, trying to get it to work.

And even if I was completely new to the game, your solution is to ban the newcomers from your server ? Thats an elitist attitude that is sickening. Never seen such things in Cliffs Of Dover. We use to help newcomers and train them 3 times per week.

Server is the property of whoever owns it and he can do what he wants, but its just my opinion on the whole thing.  Sim pilots shouldn't push away newcomers.
The server objective and missions and campaign are awesome, yes. When I said  "the worst", I meant the action of kicking someone inside of a few second window, that was made probably because they believed I was new to air sims as a whole.

Usually, when you warn someone to change plane or be kick, you leave him a few seconds to have the time to change planes, you dont just auto kick after sending the message.

First off, nobody was banned, if you read the server rules/manual you would understand why the kicks. The server has individual hangar, meaning you have to take care of your aircraft, if you try to take off in a aircraft that are not available to you the server gives a warning and if you dont leave the plane you get kicked, simply as that. In map #5 which is the one we are right now, you dont start with a yak rightway, you have to earn it.

TLDR: RTFM!

Btw, you just need to hit E once to start any of the planes ingame.  ;)

Wowww. First, curious Gamblerr taking the time to construct a positive reply from the beginning makes me give you major cudo's. I thought this guy was about to get ripped a new one.

Anywho, the new guy (don't mean to be rude here, just on my phone and only remember Hobo from your username) seems to have a fairly toxic attitude at the moment.

I want to help you Hobo, but you need to leave your frustration at the door. The kicking in this server is a system generated action, there's nobody on the other side to ruin your day.

Your original post made it seam that you were new to sims altogether, because a vet would normally run SP for a little while to get their bearings and make sure joystick/ button layouts were set well. (FYI, every engine starts with the "e" key)

Gamblerr meant no disrespect in this regard.

I would like to offer you my help if you'd like; I'll be on this evening at 830pm est. I can run with you if you're Russian, and answer your questions anyhow if you're german.

I think you'll find that people on this server are GENERALLY more helpful and nicer than others in this game, and I hope you change your mind about it once you get settled in.

Make sure you register on the TAW website too, if not already done.

Kick or ban doesnt change a thing in the bigger picture. I dont know what TLDRRTFM means, and I know I need to press E to start the engine, thats the whole point, it didnt work.

Its hard not to get frustrated when you live frustrating things, I think, it goes without saying. The "e" key didnt function.  I think its normal, to ask for help when something as basic as starting the Engine doesn't work, after trying everything in the book yourself.

You shouldn't really be asking basic things on a server like TAW, there's an expectation that you can already start, take off, fly, and land. Not many people are going to use the chat, which is clunky at best, to answer questions like that when they  are flying and fighting.
Ask things like that on the forum, or disconnect and figure it out yourself. I assume you haven't bothered reading the TAW manual if you are trying to take the wrong plane and then wondering why you get auto kicked?

Hi Hobo

Welcome to the game and to TAW. I get the impression from reading your first post here that you were surprised and slightly offended by being kicked from the server. Being new, you would have had no idea how or why this was happening and I can certainly understand how it would seem that an admin booted you. I can assure you that this is not the case. The server cross referenced your pilot hangar automatically (which by default was a brand new one since you haven't registered) to determine if you have the aircraft you've spawned in. If you don't have said aircraft the script will rather unceremoniously boot you. Its happened to all of us.  :)

 Please go here  http://taw.stg2.de/ to learn everything you need to know to get started.

As far as the engine not starting... thats very strange indeed. I would double check key bindings. I have seen engines fail to start.. usually the PE-2 in most cases.

Was auto-kicked due to bad ping 3 times flying bomber runs in the evening.

Each time at 28-30 minutes from engine start.

Don't get me wrong, auto-kick due to consistently bad ping totally makes sense.

Still, flying for half an hour, successfully infiltrating enemy rear only to be kicked 5-10 minutes to target... doesn't feel good.

I understand that there may be hard-coded auto-kick multiplayer mechanics at work here, but just in case it's scripted: is it possible to make the bad ping kick condition more cumulative?

I.e. you are only allowed X many ms of lag per minute and as you fly the server track total accumulated lag vs total flying time.

This way players how only encounter occasional ping spikes are given the chance to go back to normal, while those who systematically lag (due to a really bad connection or intentional traffic throttling) get auto-kicked.

Alright thanks , I will check it out.

Edit : Alright I might have been a bit harsh in my first comments but I was pissed.  I joined the server randomly just by choosing the one with the most planes in the server list, so no I didn't ready anything before going in it.

hobo, that e key is not working might happen when you press it twice by accident...i.e. you switch back off shortly after you initialised start sequence...i guess there is nothing you can do but respawn. as said before: leave the frustration and enjoy the game and you'll be fine:-)

Hobotango, here is a video I made a while back on how to play TAW. It's a bit clunky and outdated but it should clear a few things up for you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiqL__F0Zp8

Here is a link to another video I did on how to navigate. Once again, it has the production values of a 1970's B grade porno but it's better than nothing:

Lastly, here is a link to a free mission planning tool that I use courtesy of Curious Gambler:

Thanks for the reply Artur,  I appreciate the changes made to the campaign it just gets better with each iteration.

Kicking unregistered players might also help prevent this:

EDIT : Wow, I just finished watching your video's.. And I gotta say... IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE.
I understand now, why I was kicked, and  I want to apologize for my comment earlier to everyone who read it.

I am definitely interested in this server now.

You have to play with the name you originally joint with. This is needed to prevent cheating. Everytime you join with another name it creates a new profile.

ok, so in reference to how my profile looks, it seems to be tracking stats for the inactive "Serpette" tied to my email, while the active "serpy" is what I am now flying under, but not what my stats are tracking. i.e. I just flew a 110 sortie and got shot down, but it says my 110 is still available. I cannot change my name back to "serpy" as it says it is taken; this is true and they are on the same account.

tl;dr how can I get it to track the second, unlocked profile on my account, instead of this locked and unused profile.

Why is it that I get kicked back to main menu every time I try to join the server? My ping is always under 150 and all other servers run just fine.

Because servers works like that. Ask game devs about it.

This is your friendly reminder to stop firing your weapons at the runway threshold just because you want to land before someone lines up to take-off. Saw it twice in the same mission today, a Yak-1b and a Spitfire shot at me while I was already in the runway while they were on final.

Maybe look both ways down the runway before you pull forward? I'm not saying you didn't, but people do this all the time, they never look first. Shooting towards, not at them... is the only way to get their attention.

This is your friendly reminder to look down the runaway before pulling into it to see if any a/c is landing or taking-off. Common sense says the a/c landing should have priority MOST of the cases.

Landing aircraft ALWAYS have right of way. If you pull on to the runway and don't takeoff by the time the landing plane is on short final, then you are in the wrong. Put another way; if you don't think you can take off before the landing plane, even if he's just turning to final, then wait...

Airfield ettiquete:

- Always taxi to the side of the AF icon;

- Do not take off from taxi (except when AF is under attack);

- When taxing and approaching runway check the side of the AF icon for landing aircraft. If you spot aircraft (specially those with lights on) then wait until he lands;

- Do not sit on the runway;

- Always land from the side of the AF icon and try to use nav lights on the approach. Landing on the wrong way disrupts traffic and may cause frontal collisions w aircraft taking off (remember that most of the aircraft taking off cant see in front of them until they have pickup good speed for their tail to lift);

- If an aircraft is already sitting on the runway, the landing aircraft should circle and wait for his take-off.

I think following these simple common sense rules would help everybody. Any suggestion is welcome
