I'm getting dogfighting bombers again since around 11.5.0. I will admit the Ju-52's doing hammerhead stalls before dropping nose-first into the ground was pretty hilarious to watch (and some easy kills if I could get a bullet in them before impact), but it does take away from the immersion.

I give up

But we all know you won't...

Seriously though, take off your programmer hat for a while, fly your campaign and enjoy what you have created.  Some occasional misbehaving AI don't matter to the beauty and overall immersion of PWCG.  The game and your contribution to it have never been in a better place than right now!  :salute:

Absolutely agree.  What you've done thus far is impressive and has built its own devoted community within the game.  I little fluke now and then is not a big deal, especially considering the scope of what you're trying to accomplish.  You've made leaps and bounds in the past few weeks, and we all appreciate it greatly!

Press Report Error on the campaign.  This will create a zip file.  Post the zip file.

Yes.  That zip contains your campaign information, your mission, and your mission logs.  Once I have that I can open up your campaign, claim three camels, and see what is going wrong in a Java debugger.  Without the data (campaign and mission logs) it can be very difficult to recreate the problem.

Pat,

Something seems to be up with the AAR, at least in my new campaign using current version. I have flown 2 missions in which  in one case I shot down two 190's and in the last one I got a 110. In both missions I claimed the kills but it was not registered in the PWCG AAR. There was a message after clicking the error report button that an error occurred in the AAR.

Error report attached.

I have something odd happening now.

The last two missions I generated in PWCG have not shown up in the game to fly.

Any ideas? Been running fine all morning, but now they are not  showing up in the game.

First one that did not show up, I scrubbed the mission and generated a new one, now it is not showing up either in game.

Just tried again. Thinking maybe I did not complete mission report , I went through that process, it seemed to go through so I thought that

might be it.

Generated a new mission, no dice. Not showing up in game.

Any ideas?? I was on a roll today too.

Edit: I just checked the game directory on the PC, they are not showing up now there either.

Hello Pat,

Here is the Error Report you requested.

I THINK the issue was that I terminated in mid-mission BEFORE landing safely at my base.

I'm not sure if that would be a criteria for the error...but it's your program and you're the expert!

Let me know what the scoop is!

Thank You so much for your help!

I'm gonna send some $$$ your way for your fine work and assistance!

Best.

Sorry Pat...

Here is the .zip file...

Best.

TheSNAFU's problems sound oddly like my issue.

After having had issues with playing the latest PWCG versions, the new version 11.6.0 runs pretty fine again. I am using medium CPU, so one bomber/ground attack aircraft flight plus one escort flight. I was flying a mission with the 110 on the Kuban map and we were in a fight with a flight of IL-2 with a LaGG escort, supported by a flight of 109s, close to a russian attack on the ground and the game was running fine.

Thanks Pat for your continued working on this great campaign generator.

Just wanted to say we just had 3 really nice Coop missions in a row. Absolutely believable action going on. Ground attackers doing their job, others trying to prevent them from doing so. Nice formations flying around. In the last mission no contacts, which is also great because the AAR shows there was action going on, just not scripted so we would meet it - but with really good atmosphere due to night time and full moon.

Thanks a lot, PWCG is all what I am doing with this game now!

@Atlantia39 The issue that you had was due to missing vehicle names in FC.  The fix will be in the next release.

@TheSNAFU Yours is a little tougher.  The logs do not give you credit on the kill but based on the damage logs PWCG should have credited the victory to you.  Going to take a little longer to figure this one out but I should have a fix in place by the next release.

I would (you did get 3 kills :) ).  I want to look further into why the kill was not credited to TheSnafu and try to fix that too.

@TheSNAFU The problem is there is a space after your pilot's name, which is causing it not to match.  I put something in the code that will clean that up.  My fault for not trimming trailing spaces when the campaign is created.

Will release tonight

Found PWCG for both BOx and FC and have been playing non stop in VR the last 2 days.  I turned on the Taxi to runway option and am just blown away by how much this adds to the sim.
The UI itself is a little clunky, but its very clear most of the work is spent in the under the hood stuff.  With that being said, I am wondering if FC will get the same option in the configuration for Taxi to the runway?  Not sure if this has been addressed yet.

Again, this is some fantastic work.  I absolutely can not play this game without PWCG.

Pat, I have a side project for a sort of paper doll pilot portrait.  Its a layered PSD file with an immense amount of custom drawn art modified from an original source.  I have some examples I can provide if you are interested.  It includes a pilot face, uniform and rank and decorations.  It might be a mountain of work, but it might be fun to add.  So far I have Luftwaffe and American pilot uniforms done as it relates to aviation.  Soviet and Commonwealth stuff was outside of my wheelhouse but not out of the question.

Not sure if taxiways even defined on the Arras map.  Also not sure if that was how it was done.  I don't think they really taxied WWI planes.  More like dragged them to the starting line and off they went.  Could be wrong about that.

The paper doll - is the idea to pin medals on as they are earned?

Yes sir.  I know the coding behind it would probably be a nightmare.  Especially for getting the ribbon/badge ordering and placement right given certain combinations.  Not to mention I would have to work on a ton of generic replacement heads, Russian uniforms and same for Brits.

I'm not even sure I can find the original images online anymore, but I did a ton of editing for the variations given, and then added my own variation and separated all the decoration from the cloth.  I then created some uniforms from scratch.
image.png.df408fbf953df6ab25d97a698f72bcc5.pngimage.png.f6ad960046b4ef2ef5b70bc719df3651.pngimage.png.35aced24ef77e5c068a0b08ef507b858.pngimage.png.fb2692483589efb50517d1ef34eaed83.png

I'm no expert on this stuff, but in creating it I did a lot of research.  Forgive me though I still probably got some stuff wrong.  But I have tons of variation for rank and decorations.  Different caps, some rougher than others, but most of it is there.  I can create something on request.

A thought

Add every decoration and rank insignia as a layer.  The layers are the same as the image size.

Export every layer, starting with the base and including every medal and rank as a separate image.

As decorations are awarded add the appropriate medal and rank images to the base image.

Since the medal images are the exact same size as the base image the overlays should drop into place.

Yes, that would be a PITA as there would be lots of images, plus special logic to get the right ranks and overlay images properly where necessary (German KCs are many awards but only one medal is worn.  Not sure about others).

If you decide to make the uniform of the pilot of the Red Army Air Force, then in 1941-42, the everyday summer uniform looked like this:

image.png.cf9332c81acb55931328f3ea80e41b53.png

image.png.a2a0567739c5897170a45b7c33e3f136.png

Pay attention - there are no shoulder straps, insignia on the buttonholes and on the lower part of the sleeve. In the photo is a major.
Difference in rank:
Major - 2 rectangles on the buttonholes, 2 wide check marks on the sleeve

image.png.567f9b544206f371f1be1ca492a62c45.png

Captain - 1 rectangle on the buttonholes, 1 wide tick on the sleeve

image.png.dddd31050c14513bc7198ece8ded00de.png

Senior lieutenant - 3 squares on the buttonholes, 3 narrow check marks on the sleeve

image.png.b891d9eb1859df62795d496cf2091b4b.png

Lieutenant - 2 squares on the buttonholes, 2 narrow check marks on the sleeve

image.png.75745d01331ba674c1146a1413f8d281.png

Now for the sergeant. Some schools graduated a sergeant, some a junior lieutenant. The game is given the rank of junior lieutenant, in PWCG - sergeant. Here is the form of both:
Junior lieutenant - 1 square on buttonholes, 1 narrow check mark on the sleeve.

image.png.bf130abf3a273ca93f5771644a7a7765.png

Sergeant - 2 triangles on the buttonholes, nothing on the sleeve.

image.png.8d5111d7f03b4cd100fc2ff792090c1f.png

The new uniform was introduced on January 6, 1943. The cut of the tunic has changed (the shape of the breast pockets has changed - instead of a patch pocket, there is a welt pocket with a flap), the shape of the collar has changed, shoulder straps have been introduced instead of buttonholes, the emblem and stripes have been removed from the sleeves, instead of a garrison cap introduced a cap.
Here is the aviator's daily field uniform from January 1943:

image.png.34a509ec65875a36fcded99d80919208.png

image.png.7aae35dd240ddfd6e3094908b82dd900.png

The picture shows a lieutenant (only on the shoulder straps the stripe should not be red, but blue).
Ranks on epaulettes:
Major - 2 stripes, one large star

image.png.a9caf5f61b4325ce63a25a3f1318a27e.png

Captain - 1 strip, 4 small stars

image.png.2861c7ab832824204ae4d13367925b08.png

Senior Lieutenant - 1 strip, 3 small stars

image.png.a73c056fc85f88f10b37f3d256e5ab38.png

Lieutenant - 1 strip, 2 small stars

image.png.c7d3db80008717145aa8da3241deca12.png

Junior lieutenant - 1 strip, 1 small star

image.png.f0a87d7e91948626476be638421c814f.png

Sergeant - on the blue pursuit 3 yellow stripes and the regiment number

Above, I gave examples of the field form.

If we are talking about a ceremonial uniform (a form for the formation), then until 1943 it was like this:

image.thumb.png.d5a353a66a5a89773e55cf3279b97926.png

And from January 1943 it became like this:

The Russian info there will be helpful.  Get me started, thank you.

Tell me exactly what you need.
I can provide photographs of those years (black and white), modern color photographs of reenactors, as well as orders on the form and rank (with a detailed description of what color and size one or another part of the form should be).

@ual002 Just want you to know that I am not a great artist so I cannot  do the original artwork.  If you give me one of the paper dolls with the overlays I can export them and try a round of coding to see if the concept will work.  No use doing all of the artwork only for me to tell you the code won't work.

Patrick, please list all the awards that a Russian pilot can have in the game, and I will publish real photographs of those years so that it is clear how to wear the awards correctly. And yet - can each award be in only one copy, or does the game provide an opportunity to receive the same award several times?

Link to comment

There were no strict regulations on wearing awards. But most often they wore this:
1. The highest award - Hero of the Soviet Union - was worn on the left side of the chest above other awards.
2. Awards with pads were worn on the left side of the chest. Awards were ranked from left to right in order of importance. First came the order of Lenin, then the order of the Red Banner, then the rest.
If there were the same awards, then they were placed together. If, in addition to orders, there were also medals, then they were placed in 2 rows - orders above, medals below.
3. Awards without pads were worn on the right side of the chest.
4. The Badge of the Guard was worn on the right side of the chest below other awards.

image.png.d0814d5a622de520a6d781e6f2d033af.png

The general principle is that the more important the reward, the higher it is.

The premise works as I had hoped.  As long as every layer is the same size they will overlay and resize properly in the UI.  Examples below.  One with medals and one without.
