PWCG 10.3.4 Skins For FC!

Patt, thank you for the major improvement to the UI with PWCG 10.0, it's way better than the old one. However, do you think it will be possible to bring back the generic UI but in a different form?

Right now text can be a bit hard to see over the complex background.
image.thumb.png.bc9ada25a2f339c54f421aca2455c100.png
So the new form can be the removal of the wall background and have it just as a plain color. Somewhat like what the main menu is.

What do you think?

What I do is d/l latest version,  then before deleting older version save my on going campaign folder to desk top.  I then install the latest version delete the campaign folder (it should be empty) and replace it with the saved one.  I have found that is the easiest way for me.

There is a point where it will not accept a larger font size because things will fall off of the page.  Maybe get rid of that, but then people are going to complain about stuff not fitting on the page after they change font size.  I'll see what I can do.

Hi, I am struggling to get this installed at the mo.

When I try to run the .exe I am told it requires a java environment, the first time this happened i downloaded java and restarted the computer but it keeps giving me this error message.

Any advice would be great, thanks

Probably not getting 64 bit.  The 64 bit is unfortunately buried on the Oracle download page.

Are you closing PWCG and going back in each time you try to change a font size?

@PatrickAWlson I finally had a chance to get in several missions with the new UI.  Awesome work - I am simply ecstatic with the 3 Aces view options since this and the squadron log/history screens really bring the whole campaign to life for me.  I will be working hard to get my guys some recognition.  Thank you!! :salute:

Is there a recommended monitor resolution for PWCG? Currently using a backup 1366x768 monitor since the other one died, and with the new version I notice some items are having a hard time being displayed. The pilot selection screen seemed to be the most affected by this. Assigning pilots to the flight moves the rest of the unassigned pilots downwards off the screen. I could assign a maximum of four pilots to a flight before the rest of the pilots go well beyond the screen area. I'm not sure what to configure to try and alleviate this issue.

EDIT: Tried to change the GUI font sizes to 11, I'm able to assign some 5 pilots now. Past versions allowed to to assign and modify up to 8 or 10; can't seem to do that in this version.

Only played a mission with the latest version but I really like the new looks. No problems so far and the one mission, a low cap was great. One of the rare times that my entire flight went back to base together and all landed and taxied to a stop. We got 3 190’s (1 each for 3 out of 4 of us) and a few ground targets. Lovely sunrise environment. Great fun!

I test at 900 pixel and 1400 height.  I try to cover down to 800.  You can try reducing font sizes.

Something that can be considered is separating pilot selection from modification/payload assignment.  Not a quick and easy task but probably has to be done as people try to add more and more pilots.

I just had an "odd" mission. I was tasked with intercepting a German flight. The patrol was uneventful and on the second of the esses over the line, I saw ~5-7 German bombers at about 7kms. My squadron ignored them and continued on the patrol. I engaged, took out one bombers on my first pass. The rest dove  toward the clouds ~1km dense ceiling and we fought going above and below. The bombers drug me over a German AAA site so I decided to call it a day having bagged two (unlimited ammo on air missions). However, 2 of the bombers doggedly pursued me for 20 min back to my base. I was able to have one AAA shoot one down and then shot the other one down.

They were flying like fighters? They kept trying to get on my six, we did a flat scissors at one point. Yet, both had their bombs on until they were hit.

Is this common? It seems like somehow the game (or campaign engine) spawned bombers but had the AI fight like fighters. I noticed in the after action report that the rest of my flight took down some fighters (that I never saw).

It happens.  Might be something with the way missions are designed, but 10 years later I haven't figured it out yet.  Definitely something that I would love to see fixed in the game, but 10 years later that hasn't happened yet either :)

Ok, I didn't know if it was a bug. It was weird. I've never seen bombers flow that hard! The fight above and below the clouds was great.

It's a fabulous work Patrick. Already thank you for this tool. I would like to know if it is possible to share the interface with another pilot who takes part in the campaign so that he has access to his log book for example?

At the moment the best thing to do is to use the "Report Error" button to zip up the campaign and make the zip file available to others.  They can download it, put the campaign into their own PWCG install and see everything that you see.

Hello and thank you for this awesome tool.

I have a question, is it possible to change the cruising speeds for the waypoints?

The main thing to want to share is the debrief. Is there an easy way for the other people to get a replay of the current debrief if passed the missionReport files? or if there is a better way? At the moment the easiest is for me to read it all out or perhaps record the debrief in a screen capture.

The new UI is very nice thank you!

When using discord for communication you could try streaming the PWCG window to your friends...

Not at the moment but a very good idea - thanks

Let me know what you think of the new briefing process..  The reordering process gives you more control but also requires you to do more work as PWCG does not auto sort for you.  Moving the waypoint edits to a new screen gives more map real estate but it does mean that some information is now not available at a glance.  Hopefully the right click on waypoint popup not only compensates but offers an improvement, as you no linger have to eyeball a list and match it to a WP on the map.

One of the drivers behind moving the waypoint edit off the map screen was performance.  The interaction between the map and the info panel caused long delays when entering the map, adding or deleting a WP.  The layout manager (the framework that displays stuff) was doing too much work.   I was also not getting the right side to stay in synch because no matter what I did I could not convince the layout manager to update the list.  If I had convinced it performance would have been even worse.  By moving that information to the right click it is fast and always accurate as it is recalculated on the fly.

:good:

Thank you so much for this recent update.

Now I can move my pilot down and not be the flight lead. This I will make good use of on those large Bodenplatte airfields with convoluted taxiways for cold start missions.

I can now easily follow plane in front of me.

I really like the new features. Nice to be able to stay away from being flight leader if desired along with the other briefing options. The ability to eliminate planes not available historically is also a cool addition. And the Briefings and missions I played seem to load faster.

Fine work Pat, thank you!!

I think it is good now how it is. I adjust the waypoints with the mouse and when im satisfied, i switch to the waypoint edit and set the speed. It is easy as walking. What i think would be the tip of the icecake is, when we could synchronize the waypoint speed like we can with the plane loadout. But its not really that important.

I thought it was weird too.  I looked at the payload and modification options and it appeared that all of the options were gone, replaced by "P47 Ground Attack".  I'll look again to see if I missed something.

I've noticed the same.  However if I want to make changes to "my load out" I make those changes when the aircraft screen that comes and go to the options area.  This also true of the P-38.  There are many ground attack configurations for both the P-47 and the P-38, but not as many in PWCG.  An example in PWCG you cannot chose extra ammo with a bomb load if you do the bomb load is dropped.  I just checked the P-47 load outs and there are at least 11 configurations.

At the moment those configurations are not available in the ME.  I do not know why.  They were available for the D28 prior to the last patch, or at least after the last patch is the first time I noticed they weren't there anymore.  Without the ME I cannot determine the payload id or modifications mask.
