This is where we will discuss PWCG for BOS

Another question.  This time I seem to have a recurring issue to which I cannot find a pattern.

I play a few missions, diligently making my reports after.  I go to make a new mission, press "accept mission," and it only creates two of the needed files (the .mission file and the .eng file).

And I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did wrong, or how to fix it.

Frustrating when buddies are patiently waiting.  Any thoughts?  Either as to the cause or perhaps a file I can delete to put it back on track?

Here is the error report.  https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlNZTUsM30naiLE-2nfIWYlOcYi8vw?e=aIzP3C

Thanks!

If you are not building binary mission files then 2 files is correct (.mission and .eng).  If you want to build binary mission files

Main Menu -> Configuration -> Build Binary Mission File = 1

Your link sends me to a skins directory so no error file.  However, I suspect that there really is no error.  If that is not correct then ping me back and we'll figure it out.

Build Binary Mission File is set to 1.  And for the missions that work (i.e. I can open them in the editor and/or run them on a coop server), I have the 10 files that I'm used to seeing from making my own coops.

After a few coop missions, PWCG seems to switch over to just making the two files (.mission and .eng).  With just those two files, I can't do anything with it (can't open in editor or run on coop server).

Here is the error log (for real, this time):  https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlNZTUsM30naiLFfWcvN-HjFYXVvUg?e=pu2Mft

Thanks!

Hi all...

I discovered PWCG yesterday and today I'm trying to set it. I have 2 questions:

1- Is it possible to set feet/mi instead of meter/km?

2- Is it possible to set AI level?

Thanks a lot!

😉

@StG77Jeevesovich answered the AI level question.  For the other, you're stuck with meters.

I've asked my share of questions here.  Thought I'd try to contribute something useful for a change.

I appreciate it.  Would be lying if I didn't have a hard time keeping up sometimes.

I've flown dozens of missions on the Bodenplatte map in a variety of different aircraft (fighters) but haven't been assigned to attack an airfield once -- even with the parameter, Advanced Config/Target Types/Allied Target Enemy Airfield, set really high.

Will fighters not attack airfields? I recall that fighters in the game's SP Career would.

Do I need to adjust a different setting, or is this not possible?

Thanks.

That's on the to do list. Airfields are definitely a coded target but it appears that some other logic is causing that target not to be selected.

Was coding some today.  I understand the reason for no airfield attacks and it will be corrected as part of the overall targeting improvement.  The reason has to do with lack of actionable target units on an airfield.  With the introduction of buildings and static planes as actionable target units airfields will be back in play.

Yesterday I played with some setting and I have increased the range in one voice about airfield and one voice about BOX SIZE (sorry, i dont remember the names exactly).

After that, I clicked on MISSION BUTTON and dashboard shows airfield like target.

I suppose that the range in AIRFIELD "voice" (damn...I dont remember the name exactly) is calculated from the BOX border...

P.S.: Check MAX RANGE MISSION too...if an airfield is 100km far away from your base, but the MAX RANGE MISSION is 80km, arifield never appears like target (I suppose)

P.P.S: Sorry for my english...

Hello Pat! Please help, the problem is this: I used to use PWCGv.7.2.0 and everything worked, but when switching to 11.8.1 I ran into a problem - the mission is generated successfully, but the mission itself does not load in the game. I tried to create different missions on different maps, but nothing changes - mission loading failure. JAVA - updated, "1" - in the config file is. I attach the mission archive, thanks in advance.
P.S. Sorry for my english

First attempt at recreating your problem.  I flew the mission that got zipped up: Bombers over Kuban 1942-06-01.mission.  I flew it on autopilot from takeoff to landing.  No problems.

PWCG doesn't have anything to do with any browser.  It is a standalone java desktop application and not a web app.  So  I guess don't worry about Java and Firefox.

Just download the latest 64 bit (64 bit is important) java.

Quick question. I'm still new to PWCG and created+flew a mission that got bugged. (AI teammate didn't know how to start engine or taxi on Sloboda, 27 IAP,  1941-10-03). Ended up crashing into the ground a bit later, it was sort of a bust all around, from pilot selection on down.

Do I have to do anything special to scrap this mission and create a new one? I already flew it, I just don't want it to count. I want to create a different mission on the same date and continue campaign from there.

What is the thing determining whether a mission is "counted"? E.g. if it's a file, can I just delete the file?

Edit: Ah I think I found it.

If the results of a mission areeats:  unsatisfactory you can

1. Refly it in the game

2. Go to PWCG and generate a new mission without submitting an AAR

Caveats:

You must have binary mission file generation turned on.  If you are using text mission the game (I think) uses an auto created binary file from the old mission.

Stop the game, generate the new mission, restart the game to make sure you don't get a cached version.

To elaborate, as long as you did not submit an AAR you can generate a new mission and fly it again.  If the mission has the same campaign date it will have the same name.  PWCG is coded to match your mission to the most recent set of matching log files, so you can fly the same mission over or generate a new one and fly it.  PWCG will ignore all of the older attempts and do the AAR on the last one flown.

As for cold start, I have back burnered any further attempts on that.  Some airfields work and others do not.  I asked around for the rules on the use of that feature and got back "voodoo".  Keep manually playing with it until it works.  Of course, I cannot do that in a procedurally generated mission.  I need rules that work.

As Pat says above, it is AF specific, so not really a problem once you realize that a particular field is bugged (your squadron will eventually relocate).  Here are the work arounds I have been using:

This is helpful, thanks. Very flexible to be able to re-fly or regenerate the mission at your leisure. @Varibraun Thanks for your tips also, I have switched it to runway start for now, until I get to a new airfield.

Sorry for so many questions, I'm continuing to explore the limits of this great software :)

I note that the currently unmaintained il2missionplanner.com by @curiousGamblerr is a great map resource, and I was wondering if there was any way to import a PWCG mission as a flight plan on this website.

Potential pitfall: To import in IL2MP, the user must upload a file format (JSON?) that is output by Gambler's app, not a typical .mission file from the game itself.

Can PWCG output a JSON of the selected pilot's flightplan, to import into this website? Or alternately, I'm curious whether other folks use a different mission planning tool that is compatible with PWCG output mission files. My use case: Having a flight plan up on the other monitor so I don't have to keep checking the mission briefing.

I fly as a wingman, and simply toggle the mission map briefly to check my position. With “Navigation markers” unchecked in the Realism settings you don’t have to worry about seeing your position displayed. You could also take a screenshot of the mission brief and display that on your other monitor.

I was worried about co-op needing portforwarding, but it turned out that it just worked, which was a really nice surprise.

Couple of questions :-

I have a pretty decent PC i9900k 32gb ram, but with just one other wingman we get a lot of server overload and rubber banding. Could some co-op players recommend  suitable settings.

The skin packs, there are 15 of them on pwcg website, do I need them all, or just the latest one ?

Oh and a bonus question :-

Is it possible to start from parked ?

OC your CPU as much as possible, co-op AI is a big hitter.

The 15 skin-packs are all unique.

You can start from parked. Campaign, Configuration, Advanced Config, Mission Limits, hover your cursor over Start Type to see the options (2 is start parked).

Configuration, Simple Config, you can set densities of AI stuff in there. I run Med, Low, Low and Med (I have a 5gig CPU). There are other settings to play with for fine tuning but try that setup first and see how it goes.

Hi Herne - In addition to Hetzer's good suggestions above, this thread has some recent posts about settings (I also have a 9900k, OC 5.1 and play on Low air-density, but followed the previous discussions to change some of the advanced config to allow more enemy escorts, and we get plenty of air action in coop with my son with no slowdowns):

Once you have it enabled be aware that some of the airfields are bugged and may not work.  Workarounds discussed here:

Good luck!!

Suggest changing the default cruise speed for the Hurricane from 300 kph (186 mph) to 390 kph (~240 mph). On the winter maps 240 mph is a very easy airspeed to hold with normal cruise power setting (not even Climb Power). With hauling a pair of bombs requiring just a bit more power.

Hello Pat. I have a little problem that happens in some ground attack missions; it's not new, has nothing to do with your latest release.

Cause of the issue, I think, is the distance between the 'rendezvous' point for meeting your escort and the 'target final' waypoint. If these two points got placed too close together by PWCG there's a high chance that me or one of my wingmen get in the trigger area of the 'target final' point. Means, our flight gets the order 'search for ground targets' already at the 'rendevous' waypoint. This did mess up the AI behaviour for the flight in some cases. Wasting ammo immediately on random targets nearby, for example.

As a workaround I 'park' my flight right at the airstart point and sneak alone to the rendezvous, trying to stay away from the other point as much as possible. 😁 Or I have to scrub the mission.

Is there a chance to get a bit more distance between these points in the future? This would be very appreciated from my side.

Two examples:

Hey guys new to this but can you do what you do in the stock career mode, where you do a long campaign from moscow all the way to bodenplatte? haven't played the game yet but I keep hearing about this mod so I'm curious.
