This is where we will discuss PWCG for BOS

Ok I should pay better attention, I did see some parked aircraft on my next mission.

The airfields: I do put some parked planes around but I could definitely do more.  In RoF I mapped each airfield configuration and designated locations for objects.  In BoX it is more difficult because airfields are not single units.  They are just a collection of objects.  I mapped revetments to hold static planes and AA guns, but I have not yet developed an algorithm to scatter objects on places other than the runway

I didnt test the new 3.0 beta yet, but on the earlier versions I got some weird spawning on the airfields, with multiple planes parked in the same place, sometimes even the AAA spawn in the middle of the parked plane. I also would like to see more targets at the airfields, like hangars, oil/fuel/ammo storages,  and maybe some trucks around.

Not related to the airfield thing: the spawning and despawning of the AAA near the ground targets is really driving me crazy; I setup a good approach when suddenly 3 aaa appears out of thin air and start shooting me, I abort the approach and when Im going around setting up the next one, they just disappear, only to appear again when Im doing my attack run... not really fun...

As far as I noticed, on enemy airfields on the Stalingrad map, there are no parked aircrafts, and just two or three AA machineguns, plus one light AAA on the runway. The player airfield is defended by one AA machinegun, only.

On the Moscow map, enemy airfields are defende by between five and ten AA machineguns, and you have parked aircrafts in the shelters. The own airfield is defended by around five AA machineguns.

My goodness, those dang pesky 109's are absolutely giving me fits in my Yak-1. I have not much problem engaging other aircraft, but those 109's tear me up at times. They seem to have uncanny abilities, in both flying and shooting. Even when they are heavily damaged.  Seem to be able to hit me from about any angle, even what appear to be impossible angles. If I hear the guns firing, I know I am going to get hit.

I have even changed the AI odds in advanced config, raising the novice odds and lowering the veteran and ace significantly.

Just flew two back to back Patrol missions and really struggled with those 109's.

After 145 missions in my Campaign one would think I would get better at fighting those pesky birds!

How long does the Moscow timeline go for? I am in February 1942 right now. Curious if I stay in Moscow until the BoS starts or if will eventually 'skip' there.

Thanks!

Thanks!

BoS starts on January 1942.  It stays static until August 1942 when the battle really begins.

I'm not at home and don't remember how long Moscow stays active.   As long as it is generating missions - it's active :).  I'll give you a better answer later tonight.

FYI: Kuban starts in March 1943.  It stays static until September 1943 when the real battle begins.   It ends in November 1943.

hi all, really like  3.0 so far , nice to have those new planes to fight with or against in single player and no more error message in debriefing room ! , this make the game very immersive for me , i just wish i could have the option to make wingmans come back to base and land, even if it can be buggy, (the reason you made it like this if i recall well)

thanks you Mr. Patrick for the time you take to do and to share such a good add-on to the game !

When you fly fighter missions, your AI comrades will land, when you set the 'Landing Distance' from the default 750 to 500 in the 'Advanced Config' under 'Flight'. Exeption here is escort missions, I don't know, why it doesn't work here and in ground attacking and bombing missions.

I have been enjoying PWCG so much since installing it. I started a campaign in 2.1.2 some time ago, and am still flying it and having a blast. Yeah I know we have moved to version 3 now, but as I can not continue same campaign from 2.1.2 I decided to continue flying it for now.

I am up to mission 182 in my Yak-1 campaign. Saturday when I was flying that mission, I saw something for the first time. I was trailing a 109 G2, about 550m behind. It suddenly started to bank left, and right at that time one of my wingmen in his Yak-1 suddenly came from the side and flew right into him. Both planes exploded right there in front of me, and in VR that resulting fireball was huge, and almost blinding. I quickly yanked the stick around and cleared it ok , but wow it was a spectacular sight!

I have got a new campaign set in version 3 for the Spitfire, just need to tear myself away from my current Yak campaign for a bit.

Flew 75km south in my 190 campaign on patrol  on Kuban. 1st mission. Flew back and landed. Is it poss no enemy planes spawn.  Im not very familiar with the parameters.

Very enjoyable. Just wondering the odds of no enemy spawn.  Is typical/possible yes?

I have run across that a few times.

In fact I just completed a long offensive patrol. Took about 45 min, and I never saw a single enemy aircraft. I kept checking the large map ( labels on ) as well, just never ran across one.

Sometimes though they may be easy to miss, as may be considerable higher or lower than yourself and off to the side.

True, but not if you hit ctl+f2 and come up empty.  That means nothing ever spawned, right? Im guessing there is a parameter where x % of times no enemy spawn?

A few times eh? Hmm Ok.

I have the opposite problem - every single time I fly a mission, enemy aircraft spawn, even when I think I've changed the settings to make them spawn less.

I've found an issue with flight generation/contact frequency and MGs.

I've set flight generation odds to 30, flight generation odds modifier to 20, flight opposition odds to 10, and minimum enemy and friendly flights set to 0, but I'm still encountering enemy aircraft in every mission, resulting in an abnormally high mission/victory ratio.

(I don't really understand what the flight generation odds options actually do, to be honest. Would you be able to give a bit more detail?)

I also have airfield and frontline MGs turned on, but they don't appear.

What's really strange to me is that you're on the Kuban map, while I'm having a career on the Stalingrad map. Does that have something to do with it?

Hello

I met FW190A3 in my La5 campaign over Stalingrad in Sept 1942, can we avoid this as I don't think it is historical

Hello,,

In fact you have to modify the airfield of the JG 51 in squadron files ...

Same for the Kuban campaign period ..the jg51 never and in the kuban

.

and added the fw190A3 in the II_Sch_G_1 in May 1943 for first Jabo in kuban

Mine wont run properly. I am getting a "a java exception error has occured" I have not had a previous version of the software. Am I missing a piece that came with earlier versions? I am just unzipping the PWCGCampaign folder directly into this folder which is my root folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow

Is there a way to start with the FW 190 A3? I see I have options to start with squadrons that offer the A5 but I unfortunately dont own that. I looked through a lot of the start options and didnt see any option for an A3. Any help would be appreciated

Lasher, are you using the Kuban map? if so I don't think the 190A3 is available on that map.  The A3 may be available on the other 2 maps.  Before the Kuban map was released I had an A3 campaign going on the Stalingrad map.

Check it out if you really wish for an A3 campaign.

FW190A3 is used by I/JG51 at Stalingrad on August 1 1942.   I/JG51 is the only unit that flies the FW190 as a fighter,

When flying PWCG v3.0 as a Russian flying the Yak-1, I chose the RPK to help navigate back to the home/starting airfield.  However, I notice the needle isn't moving, seems like there's no radio beacon coming from the home airfield?

If not, can this be added in a future update?  I was trying campaign with full difficulty settings - so no briefing map icon - so having an RPK to pick up the radio signal would be a great help to find our way home.

Thanks for a great utility!

Radio beacon is there but (being honest) has never been fully tested.  I'll look up its proper use in the ME and make corrections as needed.

Loving PWCG, Thanks again Pat.

One small bug to report. Not sure if it is the case with other 109 models, but when flying the E7, selecting the 'remove headrest' option adds an armored windscreen instead (and vice versa I assume).

Cheers Pat  :salute: .

Question about Weather settings:

How does it work? The sum of all items is way above 100%.

What if I want to get e.g. 60% of clear weather how should I set values?

Thx

Wait about a week and I will tell you then :).

The weather is a bit rough.  I am going to change how it works to make it  easier to deal with.

If you don't want to wait, look for overcast, heavy clouds, average clouds, and light clouds.  The add up to a number.  There is a roll from 1-100.  Anything larger than that number will be clear weather.  So, to reduce clouds, reduce the values of overcast, heavy, and average clouds.

So I have downloaded and tested PWCG.

couple things:

-Searched but could not find how or where to find the missing skins (53 in my case)

-If I have PWCG minimized while running BOS, the PWCG program crashes.

-I found I can create a mission and then close PWCG, then run BOS and can still run the mission, however my Track IR crashes.

PWCG is a very straight forward, old style Java desktop application.  PWCG does not interact with TrackIR or BoS in any way.  There is no direct linkage at all.  The only interaction is that all consume resources.  If you are finding that PWCG crashes because BoS is running then it might be a resource issue, and terminating PWCG before running BoS might be a good idea.  As for TrackIR - not a clue.

On my 16 GB computer I can run PWCG, BOS, Chrome with several windows open and eclipse with the code open no problem.

There are skins packaged with the game that PWCG can't find.  Other than that there are probably some user created skins that PWCG references.  The state of skinning for PWCG BoS is nowhere near what exists for RoF.  Hundreds of skins are configured for use in RoF.  For BoS ... less than 100.  Maybe less than 50.

So where are the skins PW? I think that is what SShrike was asking. Is there a skin pack posted somewhere here??? Because I'm darned if I can find it. I'd rather not be randomly downloading all the skins from the forum all day in the hopes that I get the ones that PWCG uses. If anyone has a repository I'd be happy to host a link on Mediafire

The skins add so much, I know there's vastly less than there is for RoF but every little bit helps.

It hasn't happened yet.

In RoF I had many people making skins.  Panthercules put in a lot of work organizing them.  I put in many hours designating them, assigning them, and coding the assignment algorithm.  Years later we have what we have today.  Outside of the algorithms which should be mostly reusable, none of that work has started today.

So ... care to help?  The squadrons in PWCG are easy to find.  You know as much as I do about which skins are available.  If you hunt skins that are appropriate for PWCG (would be flown by a PWCG unit), and get permission from the owner to use them, I can start packaging and assigning them.  Even better if you can make some.

Ok, there's already a whole bunch of skins posted here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/18377-skins-creation-and-czar-pwcg/?p=288218 by Panzerbär. (Over 200 in TOTAL!!! All Luftwaffe but MORE than enough to crack on with.) Presumably, as they have been offered for use by virtue of having been posted in the thread, the permission to use them exists so how do I assign the appropriate liveries already posted here so that they will appear in the "Squadron" category?

They're selectable as it stands now in game under "Loose" since that setting obviously accesses skin folder for the the appropriate aircraft type in game but I would like to categorize and assign the appropriate skins to their squadrons where possible and then maybe do a little editing in Photoshop just to take a decent template and alter the aircraft number or add things like a Geschwader Kommodore's ensign ect. I've poked around in the RoF campaign to see how that works but making similar edits to PWCG for BoX causes the program to get upset and refuse to run. Is it going to be possible for me to do this myself or do you have to add them into the generator at your end? I tried renaming a skin to "FW109A3_SKIN_01" since this string is already present in the "I_JG51.json" file here:

  "skins": [
    {
      "skinName": "FW190A3_SKIN_01",
      "planeType": "fw190a3",
      "startDate": "19421101",
      "endDate": "19430331",
      "squadId": 20111051,
      "country": "Germany",
      "category": "Squadron",
      "definedInGame": false
    }
  ]

but this did not result in my renamed skin being available under the "Squadron" heading (Having the Squadron box checked in the skin configuration screen). In fact it changed nothing at all since I'm guessing this is just the default skin for that unit and that the gaem simply assigned what was already present.

Do I need to add these skins instead to the .json file in "BoSData\Input\Skins\Configured" to have them show up? This is where I ran into problems with the program not launching.

Hi all,

Just tried my first Ju52 transport mission using 3.3.1 in BoM! A pair of Russian planes were too busy (too low) to intercept us, so I landed without incident. I just love that big bird!

So after landing, is there anything special to do to successfully complete a cargo transport mission? There's really nothing to claim and nothing in the debrief to indicate success, right?

Thanks!

That's all.  Life of a cargo pilot.  No glory.  Just making it.

I make the transport missions go towards the front to keep things interesting.  The intent is to appear as though you are delivering emergency supplies that are worth the risk.  After all, why use an airplane otherwise?
