Guys,

The manual is right here. Been there for quite a while.

I don't have time to update that manual right now. Once some more things are implemented later this year I'll bring it up to current.

Jason, it's been about five months since your last posting concerning updating the manual. With BODENPLATTE about to be released in the near future, is there any chance the manual will be updated to coincide with the release or shortly thereafter?

That link is not working, here is the correctly link below. However, I downloaded it (again), it's from 2015 and is completely outdated, I almost don't even recognize the game, so I'm not sure it's necessary.

Since then I have to guess how it should work, which is really not great... :(

It's fortunate some people in the community publish videos and alternate documentation, but I hope there is a real intention to update the official one at some point.

I have contributed monetarily to this project quite a bit (with much protest from my wife... I am not sure how she is still with me after all the IL-2 years...).  It would be great to have a comprehensive PDF for this wonderful series, as well as a technical manual for setting up VR... the help from the community is great and all, but I feel that we could use a real technical writer written PDF to complement all this.  Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion.

It is a real pity that programmers obviously spent thousands of hours for years to develop a detailed sim and in 2020 we still don't habe a manual which explains ALL  settings (f. ex. all view settings). Hm:" No time for this". I find it frustrating to just do try and error and still don't know what this or that setting is useful for. Reason why I personally don't buy any upgrades. To create a sim also means to explain to the customer every single item in the settings menu. Otherwise it is a sim for the programmers. "No time" translated means I don't feel like writing a detailed manual.

An updated manual is underway. Two people are working in it. Yes, I don’t have time to write the entire manual myself and manage all aspects of this project. I am the only native speaker on this team. Makes many so called ‘simple’ things more difficult. Plus our product keeps evolving so manuals can become obsolete. I have to contract out to others who have strong knowledge of ALL of the details of our product. Not so easy to find and they have their own schedules.

The PDF manual is in landscape mode, two columns. In Acrobat reader, at 100%, you read down the left column, and then down the right column. Then you scroll to the next page. Are you seeing something different?

I'm reading it on a laptop and it shows portrait which I may be able to change, however the print is so small I cant read it without zooming in which means a single page doesn't fit on the screen so you have to scroll up and down all the time. I've tried to read the manual several times but just give up each time because its so difficult.

On a similar subject it would be good if there could be some on screen help on the Key Mapping pages in Settings to show what each item is - some are obvious, some not and hover buttons would be really useful.

As a raw beginner eager to learn it would be good to have some official tutorial video's. I know there is lots of stuff on You Tube but its a real mixed bag and often gives conflicting information - its a nightmare trying to learn as a beginner.

You could try some of the options in the Adobe Reader View menu and see if that helps. For instance, Page Display, Zoom, Read Mode, and Full Screen Mode.

Re. zooming in to read the text, you could right click on the text and choose Hand Tool, which allows you to click and drag the page around to view different parts of it rather than scrolling.

See user manual about keybindings, which includes several posts describing each keybind. There are also other posts re. keybinds under "Game Guides" in the IL-2 Resources post.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

I cant get the manual readable on my 17" laptop - its high definition and makes print small at the best of times and if I make it large enough to read I have to scroll up and down columns even in full page mode. It would be fine if it was single column portrait so I could just scroll down.

The key binding posts are just what I was looking for and will take a closed look. Spent all today trying to get TrackIR and Padlock to work together but cant work it out. I use TIR to look around but when I hit my Padlock key the reticule is always off center or even missing. Maybe I can work it out from the keybindings info.

I'm finding it a frustrating learning curve atm but thanks again for the info, will get there eventually.

Good evening! I hope you haven't forgotten the manual... Maybe you can make an academy that we can buy as a separate campaign where I can learn how to start the plane, take off, fight, understand the cockpit and land.

ref Manuals...I have not found any information anywhere on how to turn on/off plane tags. I've looked all over but nothing. Maybe I'm not

using the right terms?

I was up flying a server last night and I could see a/c types, enemy/friendly and even fly names and then all of a sudden it disappeared and in the middle

of a small fur ball I flamed some guy I thought I was supposed to be fighting and got banned for the night? That's crazy as I've been flying online since

1990 and I've never run across that before. So how do I turn on plane tags as I have no idea how fix it.

Thanks for the help.

FYI, there are many more resources listed in this post.

JimTM, Thanks! I think that's going to be the fix. It was really crazy seeing friend and foe alike then it all disappeared!

I saved a copy of the user manual so I can go through it in more detail. I hope I can find where I can get my CH PRO USa pedals toe brakes to start working.

I know first hand how difficult it is to create a manual for a game as complex as this, and updating it is equally a steep challenge for a small shop. It may be best to instead establish a Wiki-type online manual that can be more incrementally updated, with a few trusted folk the only ones with edit access.

Hi guys,

Just so you guys know, this is the plan. As I finish manuals I will release them (in English), but this is a marathon project. Hopefully I can have a couple more languages at some point. Others in the community help me of course, but as usual, I have small money and resources to make all this happen quickly and it takes real fans of the project with smarts to write, edit and create good manuals with little supervision which is what I need. I'm trying set a new standard for Great Battles literature, but I can only work on these time permitting. I juggle a lot of stuff and sometimes I get writer's block and creative fatigue so going can be slow.

Covers_Tease.thumb.jpg.e5b341206c25944c4240eb727042f6c8.jpg

Those that can help me always do and we soldier on. Making manuals and guides seems like a no-brainer for any game, but they are not easy to make and expensive to do professionally. When it's all done it will be worth it. Most users play Sturmovik without needing a manual (mainly because of our great community and relatively easy-to-understand GUI even if you don't like it's artwork), but it's best to have manuals for new users and marketing etc.

Also, the idea of a Wiki is fine, but you need have the source material first. Once I have all this ready, or a good chunk of it then that's possible.

My biggest problem is that we keep adding and changing the product. Makes maintaining a good manual, especially in many languages very tough and expensive.

I have no hard ETA on this except I want as much of this done as possible this year, by that point major new features or changes to existing ones within this generation of  IL-2 will be easier to document moving forward. At some point in the future we will have to move to work on the 4th gen product.

This is the third mention of a 4th gen platform (or similar) I hear from Jason. Really exciting to hear that there are already some (preliminary?) plans to work on a next gen platform.

My assumption is that it will tackle some of the shortcomings of the current version (bombers?, # of AI units, graphical upgrades, maybe a more streamlined ME).

I hope a lot of the hard work it's been put into BOX can be carried over (FM models, physiology, etc), or at least accelerate the implementation in the future.

I am a long time supporter and will be there to support the next gen too!

Same here. Look at the percentage however (0% complete, 10% complete). Seems the manuals don't have any priority and all will be ready in 2035. I continue flying IL-2 1946 until then...

I just spent $80 on Tank Crew after holding off for awhile to see how it looked. Right now the frustration is so high just getting the keys bound I am starting to feel like I made a mistake in reinstalling IL2. How hard would it be to have a simple manual available? I understand it takes time to learn a sim, I've been working with IL2 for years but just trying bind keys has taken me hours of frustration.
