I have just landed from my seventh mission as the ghost and just got my kill number 8 (Pe2) on DED Expert.

After lunch it will be 48 people online for sure.

I just flew 25 minutes on DED, saw you got a kill.  Didn't see another aircraft, or anything else the whole time.

The map sure is pretty, I'll give it that.

No Dserver until long after release

Official servers locked to more then 48 players

No worthwhile custom missions

No way to run custom servers unless you make some serious d wet

Gee oh golly Patty Duke, I wonder why our taxpayers aren't willing to chip in like last time. Do you think that I could run a scare story to sell more copies? It worked wonders for yellow journalism, so why shouldn't my "boys" lap it up just the same this time

Hey men, no hope for ww2 flightg sims, send mony .

stop.

no mony fro bombers

stop

no way to make it "fun"

stop

Surely they can't be smart enough to recognize bull shit just from the smell!

stop

we need more belly gunners

running dry right now

funny gunners are best

(its a joke that if a man needs to die, he should do it with a smile on his face)

I know that you know this good joke major

No way you could make it to your rank without knowing a few "funnies"

never forget their faces lying in the mud

eternally happy

I know I wont

Yours truly,

JR

airquake is free on warthunder.

I knew someone would say this, and you have totally missed my point.

There should be hundreds of people online playing all manner of different types and difficulty levels of missions at this point.  That is the point.

And the fact that this kind of post is on every other flight sim's board is telling don't you think?  No, probably not.  In your world It's either "full difficulty" or arcade, and nothing in between.

And that is the problem.

23k copies on steam

http://steamspy.com/app/307960

I think they swung and made a miss. At least oleg was aiming for the bleachers. Ambition is worth something, even when it misses the mark horribly (provided that the ruble mark doesn't lose value :^))

I think they swung and made a miss.

1. SteamSpy is a cool service made by Galyonkin, but it is not accurate.

2. 4k-7k players only on steam each day is hardly a miss. About 20% of owners are playing it, compare e.g. to Skyrim (12%, AAA title in RPG), Wartunder (10% - you know its genre), DCS World (4%), etc.

PS:

Each one posting here reduces current MP players count. Stop posting, go to servers, make server stats better :)

In order to go online you have to practice offline first.

If you try you find out there is no manual. Frustration. Who has got the time to read forums for 200 hours??

Oleg Maddox once said, 95% to 98% of the buyers of IL-2 were offline-players. No manual --> no skill, no skill --> no online flight.

Online you only meet enthusiasts who have spent 500 hours of their time to find out how everything works by try and error. No one would sell a Video Recorder without a manual, a flight sim producer does...

I landed the Focke Wulf when you were at holding point :) You saw me hehe I guess that Pe2 didn't.

All the action was in the south sector of the map. Lots of bombers and IL2 attacking our railroad system. Keep an eye on ground control messages or fly CAP over our territory and there will be action in no time.

I'm not sure if you are being serious or not....it doesn't take 200 hours to find this

Or to go on youtube and search IL2 BOS tutorials where you will find requiem's videos.

Seriously do people really expect everything to be done for them?

My point is that every, that's EVERY, flight sim offers exactly the same gameplay. No matter what you do, how great a co-op mission you create, it's going to turn into airquake. Because it's the internet and all anybody cares about is getting themselves on the score sheet. There are no consequences only rewards. Check out you tube and the multitude of "look at me pwn" videos. Multiplayer is the realm of the troll and the stat whores. There ARE "hundreds of people online playing all manner of different types and difficulty levels of missions at this point" its just that they're on warthunder because it offers exactly the same gameplay as BoS and all the rest and its free. Folk aren't going to leave a game that they have invested hundreds of hours in, to unlock all the aircraft, to buy a game for $90 to have exactly the same experience but with fewer aircraft. Never going to happen. There is nothing new in BoS that hasn't been done before. There is zero originality in it's game design or scoring system. War thunder and it's players know exactly what it is and what they are playing. There is a snobbery in the BoS community. "but warthunder is a game and this is a sim" yet every online server ends up as airquake. Go figure

There is absolutely zero comparison between IL2 and WT

One costs $90 and offers a limited plane set, the other is free and offers multiple planes for all the main nations of WW2.

Other than that you're wrong

Offers multiple planes that can be flown in wonder woman view, with a rediculous FM and DM....yes I can see the attraction...not

Why not expand the multiplayer info to tell people how many people are logged Into their game. If a player sees that , oh I dont know 200 people are playing single player, they my be more likely to jump to mp.

How many of us log into our game, take a glance at multiplayer, see a hand full here or there and say screw it I will come back later?

Yes I've been banging on about this for ages. A bit like Hyperlobby we could have a player list in the MP server listing and a pager system where you can send messages or a way to advertise a mission. If we can see people in game and communicate with it would open up a few more possibilities.

Alternatively we can use BOS Launcher which would suffice http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12832-bos-launcher/

Yet their numbers are far more than BoS why is that? That's the point of this thread. You can play the snobbery card all day long and wear your rose tinted goggles, fly the BoS rocks flag but it wont increase the player count. The FMs and DMs can be debated as much as you like but the gameplay is exactly the same.  You get nothing new with BoS

I agree with Taleks. Posting how terrible and awful things are online is only going to dissuade more people from trying it.
There have been plenty of great posts on how to increase the player count both overall and on multiplayer specifically, and I hope the developers have at least taken note of them. However, just posting random numbers at different times of day and claiming things are terrible isn't constructive, quite the opposite, in fact.

Call of Duty has more players as well...what is this to do with the price of fish?

care to provide a link to this info?

There is no need for me to provide additional info, look to the link, provided by LizLemon in his message #11. There is total number of players and number of those, who played last 2 weeks.

Just to be clear, I know limitations of SteamSpy, but if it is used to prove something in this thread, then why not to use it to prove something else?

Rarely. It is frustrating to be shot down each time I manage to take off.

Lately have no time at all.

Older and wiser than you my friend

Maybe it's your grasp of the English language then. Clearly you have no understanding of what I posted and are hell bent on mashing away at your keyboard with zero comprehension of the topic at hand.

I'm sure more people would play MP, if you could get your unlocks there.

Before Premium players could get their unlocks by pushing a button, I was grinding the SP campaign as well and now I am working on unlocking the skins...

There are only 2 ways to make MP interesting again in my opinion:

1. Leave max player number at 48 and host event type of MP mission covering a smaller battle area. By that I imagine some type Bomber Escort, Ground Attack, Reccon misions ect. with one team defending and the other one attacking.

Benefit: - differs from usual team deatchmatch style of current servers

            - clear aims / instructions for players (there's only one way to win)

            - workingwell even with low number of players

Flaws: - not really authentic

           - difficulties with balancing ect. (bomber ground vs air spawn, fighter aircraft balance, ect)

           - basicly a War Thunder 2.0

2. Rise max player number to 64 - 100 to allow bigger servers to host more people.

Benefit: - Great servers like the Eagels Nest, Syndicate and DED Expert will be more fun to play due to more lively battles

             - More players allows for additional mission tasks, ie. Transport and Reconissence missions

             - more authenticity - no need to argue about that

Flaws: - works only that well as long as player numbers are high enought

           - if there's only few people playing everybody will only populate the most filled server leaving others empty (no distribution)

           - requires good and thoughfull mission design to aviod issues such as lack of aircraft at key airfields, super vulching and bomber fests

All other suggestions which greatly helped to raise player numbers in MP such as unlockables in MP missions have been denied, so those are the only realistic options I see as for now.

In general I'm all for the second approach as I think most servers could benefit from it. The only issue I see is the total ammount of players in MP, which might not be enought to populate multiple servers equally, but at least we had one big filled server to enjoy as for now.

And breaking news....people who are into WWII air combat and fly flight sims do not represent more than 50% of the world's population. And after this word from our sponsor, a bear is spotted carrying out defecatory activities in a heavily wooded area and the pope admits that he is not an adherent of the muslim faith. In our supplement, why the few WWII aviation fans should spend their time belittling each other and making cheap jibes at the developers of game developers....
