The Missions Sharing Corner

Recommended Posts

I forgot to include the list files in the zip, which could be causing problems. I've attached the list files to this post. You can also generate them yourself simply by opening the missions in the editor and saving the mission. Check that the list files aren't empty, and you should be good to go.

Phoenix aka Habu has another theory about port numbers. It can be a problem too, I suppose, although I must say I've never had that problem and have been running client and server at the same time without issues. Maybe I was just lucky.

It's not a theory. I had the problem when i want to run two dedicated server on the same physical server and it's logic. In your case, i can't say why it works, because, it shouldn't.

Thanks!! I'll give these a try -- good to know. And I've been using my laptop to host the dedicated server. I never even thought of running the client and server at the same time ... just assumed it wouldn't work!

Actually I have another question: I noticed that when I downloaded your mission .zip that the .msnbin file was missing, which is what the dedicated server utility is looking for. Am I missing something? Thanks.

It's not a problem. The dserver use .mission by default or the msnbin. But, the msnbin is loaded faster and is lighter, that's why we use it. Anyway, if .mission or .msnbin is missing, open the mission with the editor and save it. The missing file will be generate.

I'm not surprised you can't run two servers on the same PC, two applications can't use the same ports, and servers typically need to bind ports explicitly. That's true of any application, including server and clients. The thing is, however, that clients normally don't explicitly bind a port when they open a connection to a server, they let the OS do that for them. See for instance http://linux.die.net/man/7/ip :

When connect(2) is called on an unbound socket, the socket is automatically bound to a random free port or to a usable shared port with the local address set to INADDR_ANY.

The server will know what port the client is using because it's part of the meta-data of the packets it receives from the client.

At least, that's how I've seen clients being implemented, but it's also possible to do it the "wrong" way, which is to have clients manually pick their port. The fact that the game client allows you to pick the ports in the UI makes me fear that maybe the devs did it "wrong" (there could be reasons to do so I don't know about of course, hence the quotes around wrong). Or maybe the UI designer misunderstood something. I don't know, but what I know is that running the server and client on the same machine has worked well for me.

"The Day Hell Froze Over", single player, mission 2 "Airfield bombing".

In this mission you fly a He111 as a part of a flight of 3 bombers, with an escort of 2 bf109-f4. Note: you are not the leader of your wing, you are expected to follow your lead. The objective is to destroy the runway of the airfield.

Includes an updated version of the first mission where the Russian patrol spawns in the air, instead of taking off from with their traffic lights blazing.

You can run two servers on the same machine by copy/pasting the BoS folder and changing the server ports in the startup.cfg in the copied folder.

That's what i did since december. But now, with the 1.10, you don't need to have a copy, because the ports for the sever are in the SDS (and the rcon too). So, if you make different sds, you can run two dedicated server with the same install.

~S~ Everyone,

Here's a simple rewrite of the single mission, "Ghosts in the Snow" by Ian Boys.

This one is for Multiplayer hosting only. It must be used with the "Dserver" only.

It does have snow, flares, aaa + flak, moving convoys, and an ndb for Pe-2, Lagg-5, and Yak-1 to guide themselves home with using the Rpk-10.

Hi all,

i was testing the static group damage models and the resulting mission is probably good enough to share.

Single player, with combat, on the Stalingrad map. No waypoints, just do as requested in the briefing:

Good evening junior pilot.

Mainenance reports,  repairs on your oxygen system are done. Your task is to check the system.

Take off and climb over the airport to at least 4000m.

Your wing leader told me, that you still have problems with crosswind landings, so this is also a good opportunity to train this as well. Make four landings after the oxygen check.

After the Luftwaffe attacks two days ago we replenished our AAA assets and they know that as well so we don't expect any trouble.

We have strong winds from the north east so you have to taxi to the far end of the runway for takeoff.

Report back after your test.

Have fun

Some coop style mutliplayer missions I've created for my squadron the Tangmere Pilots

Multiplayer mission with coop style play. Novossokolniki map. Sturmoviks will rendezvous with a Yak escort to destroy a bridge. Fw190s defending.

Multiplayer mission with coop style play. Fly through your opponents goal to score while defending your own goal. Automatic scoring, first team to get five goals wins.

Multiplayer training mission with coop style play. Take off from Gumrak in 109s and practice against bombers, fighters and ground targets near Stalingrad.

Hi all,

I allways liked FSM work for old il2, where the scripted campaings where base on 1 particular pilot. I will follow his example and now present to you: Andrey´s life. A serial of missions based on this fictional character called Andrey Nikoláyev. Its only his first day at Stalingrad area so he needs practices. Missions wont be 100% historic based but at least I will try to represent correct historic elements, such as front lines, units, etc...

Here is the first mission of this (hopefully long) series: The First day: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e0ex7n3heqviilx/Andreys%20Live.7z?dl=0

You will have to follow the flight leader, S.L. Rostoyev for a training flight.

Note: To trigger the take off you need to be on the Left side of the leader. If you cant trigger it I recommend leaving the taxi to the autopilot just one time, to see where you have to be positioned to the take off. Of course I recommend icons off.

Installation: Unzip on mission folder and it will create a folder with the mission inside so it will be easier to include future missions.

This will be a constant WIP since I have to learn more about the GUI elements, media and others elements.

I cant link the mission together but hoping its implemented in the future.

Edit: First post edited.

Nice work Haash!

Keep 'em coming  :salute:

~S~ Everyone & Cheers Swallow,

Here's a simple Multiplayer spawn anything for your side "Us vs. Them" at Novosokolniki.

Everything AA has complex triggering so loiter above the enemy airfield at your own peril.

Anything else you'd like to do with it is open to your own imagination and skill set Editor wise.

Chosen for the short distance between the opposing airbases, not anything but a quick fun-run!

GrishnoMap.jpg

"Deadlock at Grishino"

Ravaged factory town with opposing forces entrenched on either side of the road.

http://www.wingwalkers.org/vault/wwgeezer/BOS/Grishino.zip

Was trying to create a mission that could be used for solo practice as well as player vs player scrimmages. A good environment to practice your high altitude bombing skills as well.   All plane types are available air start and ground start, many targets and some AI to fly against.  When groups of Ground targets destroyed they respawn in 15 minutes.

Subtitles give you a clue what is going on.

We enjoyed flying it, hope you do as well.

PS.....for entertainment, launch both Russian and German convoys at the same time and leave them alone.  If they are lucky they make it past the machine gun nests and you get a pretty spectacular head on collision in the center of town...(aka Gomez Addams)

Hello gents, I made 2 missions for squads that want to have some fun. They are coop missions for LW but if you open the mission and change plane types and some names you can run it for VVS.

1: Coop training, 3 missions on the same map, you can execute them in any order.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8dscheycp7hf23o/TrainingCoop.zip?dl=0

2:Bridgehead, another 3 missions on the same map, but you have to execute them in sequence.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/glf7p6s50emn0r8/Bridgehead.zip?dl=0

More info in the briefs.

Those are my first attempts with mission editor, So don't judge me too harsh, if any mistakes are found!

This is a multiplayer mission....so did you load in multiplayer / dogfight and start a dserver?

I may not have been clear in my post, would not work in the mission folder as a single player mission.

Sorry for any confusion

have anyone a head on duel MP Mission ? :)

What do you require from it? If you need just a couple of airfields to spawn from and a few bits n bobs it's super easy to make :)

Ok, i try it....

I made this when I was learning the very basics. I think it works ok, you can edit the airfields to have any aircraft you want.

It has a front line, towns & bridges and waypoints all of which you can delete if you want.

Let me know if it's ok or you need help with changing (simple) things

Attack on Kalach, a multiplayer mission.

In this mission, Russians are tasked to protect and assist two AI flights to destroy the defenses of Kalach airfield, before a ground offensive to take it back from the Germans. For the History nerds among us, I set the date of the mission on Nov. 22 1942, the date when apparently a real Russian counter-offensive on Kalach took place.

This mission is a mini linear campaign of sorts, divided in three phases. The Russian AIs spawn and take-off when human players spawn in Russian planes. This means that if you are the only player on the server, do not play as German. You need at least one Russian player to start each phase.

The mission should be OK to play alone as Russian. Escort the bombers, or join them to attack ground targets, it's up to you. German AI fighters will be spawned to spice the experience.

Hint 1: There is a Russian spy at Kalach, who will spot enemy targets on the ground for you. If you are German, locating and killing the spy will make the Russians' job more difficult.

Hint 2: AI pe2s from Stork and IL2s from Gannet that land safely back at Buzinovka will be "converted" as extra tanks in the final assault. This could be the difference between a loss and a defeat, so make sure they fly back safely!

Note: To start the next phase, someone must spawn as Russian. This means that if everybody is in the air, someone's got to jump or land and spawn again. I personally like to land and take-off again between each phase. You'll probably need the ammo anyway. The enemy AI has ace level, so chances are you'll need to respawn anyway

I'll try to run the mission on my server this week-end (Apr 10-11-12, server located in Northern Europe), with icons (to minimize the "I don't see what I'm supposed to shoot at" problem).

Feedback of any sort is highly valued, even if it's as limited as "it was boring/it sucked".
