Dynamic Campaign: Additions

Recommended Posts

Just have been playing a 1946 dynamic campaign career. I think one of the greatest weaknesses of the BoS dynamic campaign is the lack of connection between missions.

I suggest we add some sort of pilot profile, where we enter the campaign as a pilot of a certain craft and stick with it until the end, amassing whatever the developers feel that we should amass.

We should have kill tracking, medals and all that to actually feel like a pilot during this period, instead of a entity hopping between sides and planes. This way, I would feel far more of a connection to the campaign as a unit rather than something to be played sporadically to try to unlock stuff.

Couldn't agree more. Based on early descriptions of what the campaign was going to be like, I suspect it was sacrificed to keep the BoS project on schedule and within budget. The best that can be said for the current campaign (more a sort of QMB lite) is that it was expedient for the developers.

All great ideas that I would love to see implemented. In fact, I can't think of anything more important for single players.

+1

It´s not a real Campaign as I see it. It´s just random missions generated in the same area.

There is no real storyline.

I have tried to restrain myself from being biased by forum posts and go into it open minded, but playing the Campaign has become a matter of just getting stuff unlocked.

Flying from an airfield to entry point to action point to exit point and then back to the airfield with only real action at the action point becomes boring.

This sim has much greater potential.

For me the FMB will become the savior, if it will give us the tools to setup more interesting missions.

Sorry, but I have started spending far more time in DCS than BOS.

It's too bad really.

The sim itself, while not perfect, is great, the AI is pretty good (with some notable deficiencies, especially in the bombers) and the missions themselves can actually be kinda interesting (especially considering the limited plane set and single winter map.

What is needed is 'just' a proper framework, and SP would instantly become more interesting by several orders of magnitude. It can be a dynamic campaign, where you manage squadrons and ressources as well as flying the missions you set up. It can be a more 'static' historical campaign, where you closely follow the historical events of the battle and your missions are in direct relation to those events. Or it can be a short 'career' where you try to get a named pilot of a specific squadron through those 90 days, gaining kills, accolades and promotions, gaining and losing squad mates with their own names and scores and maybe surviving to see victory or defeat.

The framework for SP can be any combination of those things, and it would instantly become a modern classic. The sim is plenty good for that.

Heck they could even make it a bit interesting right now by simply making the flights bigger (for those with a PC to handle it) and ontroducing the La-5 and Fw 190 as AI flights (which I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA why hasn't been done from the start)

You mean BoS's dynamicaly generated quick missions. There is no dynamic campaign in BoS. I dont think there ever will be one.

There is no comparision. IL246 has true dynamic campaigns using Dgen or DCG with flight paths for all planes and ground forces. BoS has a groundhog day quick mission generator with spawn in ememies.

... and that replacing rudimentary campaign part of working simulator is easier than replacing rudimentary simulator part in program with flashed out campaign. If they had to cut corners, they cut the right ones.

From the homepage of BOS :

Robust Single-Player Campaign that features a challenging and innovative AI system and includes an extensive in-game achievement system

It's so a pity, because I am a fan of sp campaign and I've bought the game to play great campaign first, multiplayers on dedicated servers with my friends in second...

I would have liked to have seen some additional missions created within the stock "Missions" interface of the game, something compatible to those first missions we had back in early Alpha stage.  Give us a story line.....something perhaps historical with the appropriate units and markings...maybe have a surprise in there....perhaps coming back from the mission only to find IL-2's pounding your base or a base close by.  Something that get's the blood pumping a bit.....white knuckle grip on the old joystick feeling.....Implement an official parser similar to the 3rd party add on, but one that can list the entire Staffel results.  Comrades victorious, shot down behind enemy lines, or dead, in addition to damage inflicted as a Staffel..  It's dreaming I know...but break down the Missions folder into VVS and Luftwaffe Missions.......

I missed this in Cliffs of Dover as well and while BoS is an improvement its still nowhere near what it could be..

The sky seems pretty empty alot of the time, this was a pretty significant air battle no? Im pretty familiar with the ground battle so forgive me if im wrong but I feel like flying around the stalingrad airspace and behind Russian lines for an hour and encountering a single Yak 'maybe' is.. dumb...

Werent there like, massive bomber formations of dozens of aircraft?? Not including escorts etc..

A man can dream.
