Game version 1.004 discussion

Recommended Posts

Little by little everything is getting right, and trackir also working fine now (4 and 5)....come on guys...do not panic...we all know how all this works...patches...fixing things up and down...devs fixing again with the feedback...I keep on trusting in devs...the game is getting better and better little by little...this people is working hard...everyweek updates...the airplanes work really nice...graphics are beauty...I see professionals behind it...I trust them so far....just have a bit patiente.

Ach!

those that lose patience or dump a load of unhappiness in here, do you really want to fly with them? Do you want them to have one of the limited online slots?

If they leave for small stuff like this, does that not have a positive impact of some sort?

just sayin'...?

the only sad thing i see is the haters spreading their hate elsewhere and scaring buyers off.

cool heads will prevail.

Having flown a few career missions with the new version, I have had no ctds and the game is running smoothly and looks great - incorporating the ini file changes discovered by whoever it was, who deserves the Stalingrad hero medal and 100+1s.

The thing that is driving me nuts, close to abandoning the game, is the difficulty of controlling friendly AI behavior.

I have been doing intercept and escort missions, and the wingmen persist in breaking off to attack enemy aircraft as much as 7 km away. I am constantly having to send the follow me order to get them back on mission, and then after a few seconds they do it again. I can understand that they might do this occasionally, and that they would engage very close, threatening targets without orders, but they seem do it to every single enemy aircraft they see.

The default behavior for friendly wingmen when they see other aircraft should be to report their position and ID if possible, not to leave formation and go charging straight at the enemy. I as leader then then decide whether and how to engage.

There is absolutely no point having a complex menu of formation and wingmen commands if they have no tactical application.

Please do something about this as a matter of urgency.

After some research I found next information that i wanted to share

"FreeTrack is a general purpose optical motion tracking application, released under the GNU General Public License (and is not a unlicensed piece of software  as Zak said). FreeTrack is compatible with the unencrypted version of NaturalPoint's head tracking TrackIR interface that has widespread support in simulation games"

I think you misunderstood "unlicensed". Freetrack does not license NaturalPoint technology, and (from memory) instead spoofs the TrackIR dlls to trick games into thinking they're seeing a TrackIR. This is why Freetrack's support is fragile, as it relies on NaturalPoint never changing TrackIR software in order to work. Hardly any titles support Freetrack directly, and the TrackIR compatible titles it does support rely on either the built in hack, or more obscure patches available via the forums. (Yes Freetrack is under GPL, which is a license, but as it does not license NaturalPoint tech, and even if it did, that places its GPL compliance in question.

Not being persnickety, just thought the license situation with freetrack may use some clarification. Opentrack suffers some of the same limitations (including licensing), but is more actively and openly developed, incorporates some of the best stuff from freetrack and facetracknoir, and has a more robust open 6dof standard with some hope of getting future game support, so is worth looking into if you wish to switch.

Hawker, i understand your point of view and i respect it, but please don't say to me that i'm not patient and a hater. Patience and love for this game is what i've shown till now. I'm following the game from the first Developers Diary, bought it since the first moments. I never complained till now, when the Dev's tried to give me no choise. My opinion is that a small piece of bad plastic with 3 ir leds and a camera doesn't cost ~ €175.

Thanks for your info 39bn_pavig, I will definitely give a try  ;)

Hear hear Zeigler! When oh when will the numbers on servers go up? I can see that the biggest push for this last update would be CTD's but now is the time to work on the servers!

SYN Mike77, I think we are just being ignored regarding the server numbers.  9 pages of free tracking device moaning taking precedence to something so insignificant as MP server numbers.  I've asked 3 times and have not gotten a reply.  While not a SP, I can understand the developers onus to sell units by pushing SP campaigns with unlocks etc.  I've done the campaign and all the unlocks that I will need (in MP) without whinging or fanfare and now just want to fly against actual humans, on servers that host enough players to actually have a mission with your squad.  They must know that this is the natural progression a flight sim takes once the SP campaign is done and dusted?

I totally understand and agree with the need to fix the CTD's first. Which at least on my machine they accomplished with 1.004. What I would like to know is if they shifted to getting the server numbers back up and that is what the next patch will address? If they do that I will be a happy camper.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if on a small team like we have working on BoS that the same people would work on both problems. So now that the CTD's are taken care of, will they be or are they, working on server optimization?

The IL2-BOS profile has now been added in the TrackIR game list. Perfect and excellent reaction from TrackIR.

Worth paying for a good product that has support.

That's okay with me...

And my comment wasn't aimed at you specifically... really not.

But haven't we had enough of the trackIR debate?

does headtracking not add just as much as a proper HOTAS Joystick?

It's the final user's choice to either build a custom system supported by freeware, or turn towards a company and get proper software integration and hardware that allows 6DOF.

But no - when the devs do it right [for once?!] they still get the shaft by the non TrackIR dudes riding in the grey zone of software use.

anything they do, always a Bunch of people who complain and moan and grunt.

And then dump their frustration on the forum, and on the devteams, and on the community managers... - despite the devteam not being guilty, despite there being no reason at all to be mad at them in the first place.

That is the background to my comment.

I mean no offense to you specifically but so much entitlement and nonsense is hard to take.

i personally am getting to the point where i think that there are a bunch of people that do not even deserve to enjoy the efforts made, that do not even deserve to play.

even with Premium and founder and the extra skins.

If there is so much negative stuff in the 1.004 version of the game, why not go back to Rowan's BoB or GTAV- without first dropping nukes left and right?

grumpy me, right.

yea.

:-(

It comes with software that enables the hardware to be used for head tracking.  Software developers, like the rest of us, have to eat.

The right way from my opinion is done in 1.005, an elegant solution when everyone is happy. I believe everyone should learn something for himself after this awkward situation. There is room for improvement on both sides of the communication line.

sure - but the devs too had probably no idea of the consequences of 1.004. They had good intentions, good info, did a proper Job...but stepped on "some toes". no need to give up and get mad like some did.

it's a neverending WIP after all.

Yes I too will be a happy camper when the numbers are increased.  Thing is, we were clicking right along at twice the current rate or more with no discernible problems (that I could see) and this was only said to be a stress test at 33 limit. I suppose with everything else going on it's possible that the data has not yet been looked at yet?  Fingers crossed we are back to the pre stress test numbers soon.
