Well, I gave it my best shot...End of story.

Recommended Posts

Hi All

After being dissapointed with the unlock system I decided to give it a go.  I'm a SP striving to become a MP.  Everday last week I flew multiple missions trying all the planes trying to end this madness.  To no avail Im still at it with very little progress to show and at the rate I am going will never succeed to MP.

Today I chose the LAGG 3 in an attempt to open all for this plane.  I am even more disgrunteled because several sorties were completed safely and I was not given credit and several times only half credit because I crash landed, which I did not,  For example, my best one was an aerial kill and two ground targets destroyed.  Very shortly after the air kill an ace severly damaged my plane that triggered a sign that tells me to bail out which I ignored.  My engine pouring out black smoke, left wing full of holes, no flaps and a difficult plane to control I made it back to base with a great landing I might add with no damage, taxi to parking and stopped.  I opened the cockpit and was unable to turn off the engine because I have no control of it, so I hit the button to exit.  Well, I got 50% because I crash landed and the sortie wasn't over ????

There are other senerios that occur which don't give full credit either. I landed from the wrong end of the runway, no damage, taxied and stopped in parking area. Again unable to shut down the plane so I tried the AP which promptly taxied me back to the runway placing me in the takeoff position.  I didn't know what to do except TO again so I hit AP hoping it would shut down my plane.  Big Mistake.  We promptly go down the runway and crash into a tree.  I know--I tried expert but I'm no expert.

I just can't see myself for the next days, months, or years trying to eliminate these locks so I am moving on.  My opinion: I think this sim has some fantastic features but is crippled with these locks.

For the life of me I don't understand the reasons for them and they don't even work properly.

Maybe someone can offer me some sane reason to this maddness so I can find a reason to stay on.

If not, best of luck to you all and I know a lot of you do enjoy and are happy with what there is.  I hear MP has a life and working well.  At this point I wouldn't stand a chance in there.  Maybe later?

Farewell

Phil

Just play full expert escort missions to get the fighter unlocks. You take off, follow the bombers around casually and just don't look for trouble. Kill some enemies if its not too dangerous. Wait for the bombers to get to the exit point and then you can instantly exit. 180 xp for just flying around, if you go land it you get 240 xp. 8 of those missions and you're done.

No. Doesnt work for me.

Not only is the unlock for FULL payers madness.

Not only is the lack of communication and ACTION on behalf of the devs after this self inflicted shitstorm demoralizing.

The system does NOT even work properly.

This becomes more EPIC day after day... :excl:

I wish for much in this sim, but right now with only 30 slots on multiplayer, I simply do not fly online. And I gave SP a shot at it. Well firstly all planes are perfectly flyable without unlocks, And those needed it took me two missions on each to gather them.

So I personally do not see any reason for this drama, what said on this subject is said. Nothing going to change so leave it or move on is my advice.  There is much in life that is desirable

Flyable planes ok yes, IF you dont CTD.

The first unlocks DO come easy. But then, I just like to have some variety by having skins (which ARE beautiful) and basic weap mods.

Then frustration kicks in as missions and grind XP gets harder, but the system screws  your  best attempts. With 10 planes, it is too long a way to go...

So dont think it is that uncomplicated as you say.

The issue here is that many people paid money for the game on the rather valid assumption that a variety of skins and some weapon options would be part of the game.  In essence people who did not foresee the unlock nonsense paid money for a game, with access to say 90% of it, the other 10% being locked away.  It's a silly, stupid system.

I hesitate posting this, but I hate to see people give up on it because of the unlocks.

It took me 2 weeks and 2 days to unlock everything. (Playing 2-3 hours each day) When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. All Planes, Campaigns, Skins, Weapons, Airfields whatever. Nothing is locked on my account.  Get this,  I didn't even set up my joystick yet.  How did I do it?

Simple. Select plane and airfield, select normal flight. Select bombing or a ground attack mission ( most likelyhood of success). Press "A" and let the autopilot fly the entire mission. Press bracket key for 2x acceleration. Turn off monitor and go do something else. I went outside and racked leaves, got the car washed etc..  Came back in about 15 mins. Mission should be over by then and plane should be back on friendly airfield. Collect your unlocks. Keep repeating this and once a plane is unlocked, move on to another plane. Now I can enjoy the sim, go on multiplayer and have everything at my disposal.  I am playing the campaign again, but this time, I'm doing all the flying and have everything available to me. Its awesome!

Its not fun to do it this way, but it gets it out of the way and you can enjoy it once your done. Note: the autopilot will get shot down or crash once in a while. I figured about 2 out of 5 times it never returned and I didn't get any XP or unlocks. If that happens, just restart the mission. some planes took longer than others. Stuka gets shot down a lot and so does the LA5. They took the longest to unlock.

Once you unlock everything, the is game is awesome!   Don't give up!

Yeah the point rewarding is not without bugs. But it will work out in the end im sure of it. Im a SP player myself and trust me i dont agree with the unlock system but its there am im trying to make the most of it.

Since the game is not very consequent with points i mainly play short missions and mainly groundattack.

In the end its clear the SP area of BOS still needs alot of work but the foundation is there and its really good.

Dynamic campaign generator, careermode,  different seasons and more background story to the mission you fly and the pilot you are (squadron etc) are things that BOS needs. As soon as these things are part of BOS we are truly looking at the new king wearing the IL2 crown.

Till then we need to keep giving positive feedback and hope 1C and 777 will put all these suggestions on their roadmap.

Yeah, I am doing the except same thing. I also do this at work. Set up an unused PC, run the game as above, start a mission when you can. I still have three planes, and a couple of airfields in the campaign to unlock. Most of it is done though.

One small tip: start with the crap planes. You get more opposition as you get a higher pilot rating, so save the good planes for last. Bombers are the best.

I really  hope such things get done, along with a Mission Editor and better server tools to let users make some great Multi-player missions.

But is that actually planned?  Last I heard, a proper campaign career mode with improved mission generator was not gonna be done.

I don't play this anymore and have'nt in a long time. It's simply ridicilous this unlock thing.

I work for a living and have a family to spend time with aswell, not to mention friends and
other hobbies! I simply don't have the time to mess around with this BS!

I paid (in my currency) a lot of money for this sim and it turns out it's not a simulation at all.

My goal was to fly together with friends in coop (or similar) as in the old IL-2 days.

Unfortunately my entire squad has opted out of this due to the unlocks and other quirks
and it's back to the old IL-2 1946 and DCS (perhaps CoD with TF mods).

It's unfortunate because we really see the potential here but no way we are grinding for unlocks
and flying air quake waiting for FMB and dedicated server.

Playing devils advocate, how is it different to battlefield 3 or any other title where you have to level up? I don't like the unlocks either but I realise that I did get what I paid for.

I would have enjoyed unlocking different mods and skins while playing MP. Would have been much more immersive.

SP is not worth it.

Yeah its sad the unlocks in SP got tied to MP haven't played the game since, but still come to the forums in the hope things will change.I'd be happy

with a compromise of having unlocks linked to ranked servers and no unlocks on unranked servers, i don't care to much about stats.

Same here..  It is smart to understand that the system is a failure and they should retract it and save the Franchise.  Fix FM and this ridiculous Unlocks and the GAME will be successful

Trying to make a Sim a Game is a bad mix.. It's easy to see what it's going on..  want money ? dumb it more down simplify it even more do something like WarThunder and port to to the XBOX . But do not change the recipe of a good meal.

Chako, venture online anyways. Join a squad and get on coms. I' m sure someone will help you out!

On a side note devs really should look into getting xp from online playing. It seems to be in there. Just not... unlocked yet?

They certainly have their detractors, it's true. I've been lucky to not have bugs about points etc, nor CTDs so the missions I do fly have given me some progress.

I don't have much time either due to work and family, but in the few missions I play every few nights I'm having fun chipping away. I've just been flying the LaGG.

I'd like the unlocks to go, for the sake of peace and quiet on the forums, if nothing else. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I wanted to say something clever... Something that would shock the developers into realizing the unlock system was stupid. But honestly as I started typing I realized I no longer care about the game, the time period and the battle itself. Thanks for making an exciting period of WW2 history mind-numbingly boring.

The unlock grind isnt a big deal to me. It took about 4 h to unlock everything I will ever need online for the two Bf 109s and the Fw 190. It took that same time to set up, test and tweak all buttons and controls and try out the new engine management stuff. 10 kills a sortie helped a lot of course lol but its still easy to accumulate points very quick with short interception missions.

f AI is too much, abuse the autopilot and do something else while the game plays itself. Human oöponents wont be easier.

Not so sure I understand the immediate urgency to unlock every single item before going to MP.  It's not a race.  Pick your favorite aircraft, and work on it exclusively.

I don't think any unlocks would be required for MP fun, anyway.

For you perhaps. For me personally, the He 111 would also not be required for MP fun. Would still be pretty stupid to lock it just because of that though.

I've lost interest in BoS for now. Campaign is no fun (and currently the stats don't even work, no idea if i can even unlock stuff right now), MP is down to 32 players (horrible timing for that if i may say so, a few weeks after release).

Will wait for changes/additions/fixes. Some productive decisions by the devs would be a nice change too.

I just wish there was some sort of story or something that raised the campaign immersion level a bit. If I have to fly endless sorties to get stuff (that should have been there from the beginning) at least I should have a pilot character or SOMETHING to make me care about campaign progress. At least give me medals instead of levels so I can compete with Rudel about being the most decorated Stuka ace.

how different ? in BF3 you unlock things while playing online !!!!!

Playing the AI is like clubbing baby seals for me-- No time or will to do it (and I did for the planes I like to fly..)

same here. Im spending my current flight time on Clod awaiting for better days (back to 64+ players for example..)

OK Steve!

I was addressing the OP, who sounds like he's fairly new.  I'm one of those who unlocked what I needed in just a couple of hours, and can enjoy MP with what I have.

I'm sorry it's ruined it for you and many others, and wish the unlocks would go away or change ONLY because you guys don't like it.

Here's some good MP fun--- where I forget to use my favorite unlock in the 109 (Remove headrest).   I have all the of the upgrades, but the game doesn't currently remember what you selected on your previous sortie so it's stock except for the African skin to stand out more.

You too can play multiplayer without grinding single player!  http://www.twitch.tv/pand_twb/c/5420101

I understand Goblin.  See Scoobe's post # 14 above.  I've been doing what he's doing.  Except I don't wash the car, I've been flying IL2 1946 coops with my squad buddies whilst BoS is running in the back ground.  Been flying Cliffs too whilst my pc does the grind for me.

I too have pretty much stopped playing this game though I hope this changes friday. I have quit the SP unlock grind due to CTD at the end of every mission. I have stopped playing MP because of the locked at 32 makes it nearly impossible for me to log on to my squad server at the time I have to play the game.

Whats left to do?

The sad thing is the game is fantastic! A week ago I somehow connected to the Syndicate server and spent a good 45 minutes in a single sorte with one of my squadmates. Fantastic fun as the two of us tried to entice a properly flown boomnzoom 109 to get down low or into a turn fight with us. He wouldn't bite and the fight stayed at the 5-6K level. About the time we were starting to get the upper hand, 3 more 109's showed up. We dived in different directions and landed at seperate fields glad to be alive. The tension was terrific! I want more of that!!!
