  1. I haven't done a lot of winter skins but I remembered doing one for a friend of Hans-Ekkehard Bob from a picture he had of his 109F2 'Yellow 9'. It was tricky because of the prop spinner pattern and also getting the brush marks right especially on the engine cowling. It is for a 109 F2 but putting it on a G2 only revealed very minor differences so it is useable on both. On an F2... https://www.mediafire.com/file/b2r1hrwtuqdsyns/Bf109-F2_JG54_Hans_Ekkehard_Bob-V21_lc.dds/file And on a G2... And the answer is no, I do not have any winter skins planned.
  2. I saw this beautiful artist profile but couldn't find the skin so I gave it a go. After 5 hours and on my first save I lost my template so this is a one take wonder and the quickest skin I've ever done. It's a bit rough but then again it is free afterall. https://www.mediafire.com/file/b6mk8iv1mansx8y/Bf+109F-2++Oblt.+Heinz+Schumann+Stab+I.JG51+Barbarossa+Summer+1941+v1.dds/file I liked the skin so I went back and gave it a tidy. I also ran it through BlackHellHounds new template (which I only just discovered last night). https://www.mediafire.com/file/222bsaqau470wg5/Bf+109F-2++Oblt.+Heinz+Schumann+Stab+I.JG51+Barbarossa+Summer+1941+v7.dds/file
  3. No point wasting a perfectly good skin. There is the link to it. It clearly shows that there is no compromise involved if wishing to display shiny metal along side matt paint. Also no devs had to tweak anything as the tools have already been made and supplied. All it takes is not pushing the Brightness/Contrast adjustment into the red zone unless you actually want to create rocket ships. Which was my original question - Is this a design decision (most likely) or does someone not know what the control actually does (least likely) ? Either way the pictures show just how much detail is being lost and that the current skins are being pushed into something that is less realistic. Unless the photographs are fake news of course...
  4. The skin is based on a photograph of a rebuilt I16 Rata. The aircraft belonged to the 155th Fighter Squadron when it crashed in 1941/42 and was originally produced in the Gorky aircraft plant No. 21 around 1939/40. The wreckage indicated that some parts (engine and armament) were of the I-16 Type 18, whereas landing gear and the right cockpit door showed a Type 24. https://www.mediafire.com/file/d1du3hq8ueuvjvw/I16Type24+4K+I16+rebuild+v16.dds/file Updated 19-01-2021
  5. To simplify my point I've knocked up a skin copy of the original photo shown below, see photo (2). It still has a couple of differences but this is about reflection not skinning. I used my Alpha layer properly adjusted to reality and also, in the next photo (3) show my skin identical in every way but using the ingame alpha which I think is way off. If this doesn't show there is a problem then I'm stumped. I've also included a couple of ingame shots to show the outcome of a poorly adjusted alpha layer after the comparison shots. A good quality photograph to start with. (1) A skin based on the photo above. (2) Same skin as photo (2) but this time with ingame alpha. Note how the details get lost in the glare. So much in fact it looks like a different skin. It is identical in fact apart from the alpha layer which controls reflection. (3) Finally two screenshots to show what the issue is although I've already tried that earlier. And that's it - end of Complaint and thanks for your attention.
  6. This is exactly the type of thing I would like to see in the game. That level of reflection is realistic and perfectly achievable within the game. However at some point it was changed to what we have now. I can make this skin no problem and will do so to make my point. It isn't the game that is the problem but whoever has made the choice to go OTT glossy. To save time here are pictures of the default I16 skin and 3 shots of a custom skin where I have quickly created a balanced Alpha layer. I hope it shows what I mean. Total gloss and wax - even soot and dirt look metalic on this Default Skin. Adjust the Alpha Layer to look like the photos of I16 in the sun on this Custom Skin. You can ignore the metal and scratches as they aren't the issue just an indication of the level of control available in game. Focus on the paint and reflectivity. ---------------------------- "At least they got rid of the 'wet look'. What we have now is much better than that." Look at the default I16 Wing surface. Surely you can see the wave like reflection?
  7. Alan Wilson from Peterborough, Cambs, UK - Messerschmitt Me410A-1/U2 Hornisse ‘420430 / 3U+CC’, CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=76681687 Here is a museum shot just to inject some reality to the point I was trying to make. Note the lack of insane levels of reflection even on clean aircraft of the period. Turning up the contrast on a black and white photograph does not denote reflection. This game is supposed to be a simulation afterall so why coat every aircraft in a cm of gloss varnish rather than learn to harness the alpha layer or else willingly pursue the goal of making it look like Starwars.
  8. I was asked to add another aircraft of 2./JG53 at Stalingrad based on this artist impression. Pilot unknown. https://www.mediafire.com/file/pqpp8d1ajrljh26/Bf109G2+4k+2.JG53+Black+3++Stalingrad+1942+v2.dds/file Consequently I found some photos and another artist impression. And made another version of the skin. https://www.mediafire.com/file/vizy8q152cw4kl9/Bf109G2+4k+2.JG53+Black+3+Tusow+September+1942+v6.dds/file This is also a good example of how subjective and speculative aircraft colours are when interpreted from black and white photos of the period.
  9. Walter Zellot (6 October 1920 – 10 September 1942) was a World War II fighter pilot from Nazi Germany. He was appointed Staffelkapitän of 2./JG 53 on 19 August 1942 replacing Hauptmann Klaus Quaet-Faslem. Zellot received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 3 September 1942 for a reported 84 victories (although his actual total kill on that date was 78). However, earlier on the same day of his appointment on 19 August 1942, his Bf.109G-2 WNr.14189 was shot-up by a Soviet fighter, probably the Yak-1 flown by future ace Boris M. Vasilyev (929 IAP). On 10 September 1942, Zellot was killed while engaged in a low-level attack on Soviet troops northwest of Stalingrad. His Messerschmitt Bf 109 was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He bailed out at low altitude, insufficient for his parachute to open, and was killed. https://www.mediafire.com/file/fvpfaq81dxhcka2/Bf109G2+4k+JG53+Lt.+Walter+Zellot+Stalingrad+1942+v15.dds/file
  10. It's a shame when the only noteworthy thing is an emblem. Probably best I keep my Frankenstein creations to myself.
  11. "Feel free to share variations." I've made a few but am veering towards doing more creative (semi-historical) stuff with more regards to color and pattern rather than just copying the handful of documented schemes. It's not everyones cup of tea but I enjoy it as it leads off the beaten path. This is a 109 G6 that started off as Heinrich Bartel's 11./JG27 Red 13 and ended up an unknown JG26 aircraft. I'll post some up and maybe some of them might have merit. Keeps me happy anyway. https://www.mediafire.com/file/6xkzuksplwy05mc/Bf109G6+White+3+JG26+Unknown+v4.dds/file
  12. Glad you like it. Of all the skins I've made this is my favourite. The pastel grey/blues with the dirt matt colors on top of the fuselage just works. I will probably get lost in playing about with variations of this camo for a while. That top mottle was really hard to get just right.
  13. I had another search on Google and found another artists impression of this aircraft with 'Green 2' mentioned in the text. In fairness, I actually prefer the lighter colors that the artist used in this one, once I tried it out. Hope this one is green enough . https://www.mediafire.com/file/fipctddikff4p71/Bf109G14+IV.JG301+Green+2+Stendal+early+1945+v1.dds/file

  15. Thought I might as well do all three suggested, so here is Blue 2 based on a Bf109 G10, pilot unknown, Stendal early 1945 . https://www.mediafire.com/file/rno95tqkblwed21/Bf109G14+IV.JG301+Stendal+1944+v6.dds/file

  17. Here is the JG300 Green 14. I was pleased how it turned out. Hope you like it. https://www.mediafire.com/file/7qnaq6mru52fg66/Bf109G14+12.+JG300+Green+14+v6.dds/file
  18. Thanks for the profiles, luftwurger. I intend to do the green 14 and yellow 15. Great to have such quality images to base the skin on.
  19. WIA 2 December, 1944 during aerial combat in the Remagen area during an Alarm Start with a P-47 of 56FG, 63FS between Lumda, Stangenrod and Atzenhain. He was severely burned during the emergency landing near Giessen. He died in a Giessen hospital on 11 December, 1944 (Source: Horst Jeckel). Buried in Essen. His "Black 1" was damaged during an emergency landing at Erndtebrück. https://www.mediafire.com/file/eb5gf64176ly7dv/Bf109G14+11.JG3+Karl+Heinz+Willeke+v11.dds/file
  20. I found out a little more about this aircraft including another photo. It shows that the squiggles extended over the canopy slider assembly. The aircraft was part of a batch of captured JG26 planes taken to Freeman Field, Indiana for evaluation. There it was written off in a landing accident when the left strut collapsed. No mean feat considering that German pilots would throw it onto the runway at around 250-300 km/h with no worries. The number on this aircraft was not disclosed although others in the batch are listed. It is shown here as it might have looked prior to capture. https://www.mediafire.com/file/gmm7aibkeheygv0/fw190d9_JG26+squiggles+red+5+v3.dds/file Also for completeness here is the photo one just without FE-121 marking. https://www.mediafire.com/file/lqouoz9i35aa6bw/Fw190D9_no+FE-121+v1.dds/file Breaks over, back to making merry..
  21. I had a few attempts at this one with little to go on but settled on this one. Hope you like it. Now it's off to wrap presents. Have a Good One! https://www.mediafire.com/file/fiqvquiy5k1bn1r/Fw190D9_FE-121+v16.dds/file
  22. Excellent! All the good interesting bits are from your initial skin. I blended these with one of mine and then did a bit of post processing and tweaking to pull it all together. I am still looking at colour changes and maybe a historical version without zimmerit but nothing noteworthy so far. Oh.. and no mods required for this one. https://www.mediafire.com/file/9b1tlnolak8htr9/PzVIH1_late+war+121+Pz.Abt.501+v7.dds/file
  23. Here is a another skin I made using some of your brilliant skin and then blending it with a Tunisia 1943 Pz.Abt. 501 Tiger I was working on. There was no zimmerit on Tunisian Tigers and it didn't come into use until July 1943 however I really liked the look and thought it would make an interesting semi-historical skin. I won't release it without your approval and besides just cause I find it interesting doesn't mean anyone else will. I just made it for my enjoyment historically accurate or not. It was based on this model picture. "Research determined that these vehicles MAY have been painted in “pea green” at the factory especially for service in Tunisia. They arrived with large white outline style numbers on the turrets. PzAbt 501 decided to repaint the vehicles in a more appropriate color once they were using them in Tunisia. The identity of this color remains a mystery, with speculation ranging from captured U.S. Olive Drab, desert brown, and gray-green. The author further speculates that the interior of the numbers was left in the original lighter “pea green” color. It was eventually put out of action on 1 January 1943 near Kairouan." I might try changing the numbers to be bigger and will take another look at colour options. Anyway here is where I'm at. Just to be clear I am not spamming your post but posting here because this skin is based on your work and therefore related. I won't release anything based on your skin without checking in first.
  24. I got it finished and will send it to you as soon as I get back into my computer which is currently cloning onto a new fast hdd. I am very pleased with your skin as it has lots going on and is interesting. You can change it to your liking quite easily. I think a no mods version would be good to get included if that ever goes anywhere. 👍
