    @666GIAP_Chimango The attempt to discredit my concerns with so called "balancing" that red side is whining for right now is laughable. The mission editor "trick" is what I became aware from speaking with some people on the red side and discovering that they use it. However I did not use it myself. If we continue in this direction though - reds join the blue side for a bit to grab the locations of the drop zones and then switch back to go and patrol them... Please understand the concept of asymmetrical balance. One side has an order of magnitude better CAS. The other side gets a bit better fighters (with new nerfed lineups) and bombers that aren't even able to defend themselves. I had a lagg sit on my 6 in ju88 until he ran out of ammo (because he really sucked at aiming). He landed with a radiator leak back home which was 60km away. All things considered right now the mission leans towards blue side not because of 23mm or gunpods. But simply because one side coordinated and decided to win. You can do the same!. And you did the same. 19FAB guys in larger group simply obliterate the blue side. Like they did both times the reds won. @LG I think the picture is clear. Reds demand a red-easy win campaign for the next round. I guess it would be fair.

    Thankfully you don't have to take any of my words. Its up to the TAW admins to determine what they wish to do. Learning how to RTB in a damaged PE2 is straightforward

    Can we also limit the IL2 AT cannons or maybe remove free PE2 aircraft given out every mission rollover? IMO paratroopers are fairly balanced with how much better the red CAS is (just look at the anti-tank stats).

    Yeah, whiners were able to strike 109f4 from early missions. Also ju88. Also the 109k4 from later ones... So in the end 110 ends up being the "best fighter" which is hilarious all things considered. Meantime I struggle to bring down PE2s suicide-bombing tank columns without any escort. P.S. I think the guy who "enlightened you" did not specify which of the loadouts are locked behind depots. I do not know either, but I would hope the gunpod options would be.

    I'm well aware that the current DM models HE as a fragmentation round rather than proper HE. Its a pretty poor way to do it, but thats what we are stuck with until devs bless us with a better model. Anyway we are going off-topic here as this specific point has been discussed a lot before. And even considering the RNGesus 30mm still deals too little damage for what it is. I hope to get more time at the end of the week and run more tests specifically against similar areas to what was shown in the cited field tests (on top of the already performed tests by other guys here )

    Absolutely. Just remember its not all in the negative for larger calibres. You can argue that you need larger explosive mass for it to be able to exceed the yield/tensile strength of the material to cause permanent damage. Edit ---- At the end of the day we can argue all we want with numbers and statistics, but IMO what matters most are recorded field tests and to somewhat lesser extent collected statistics on all sides of the war. Basically I'd like to see a tail blow up like a firecracker when I hit it with 30mm and not just mildly inconvenience the rear gunner on PE2.

    Honestly though, red herrings like "Locality effects" doesn't get much more vague than that. Yes the cited work is crude, but in combination with the field tests and multiple pictures people have shown, its pretty clear that current high calibre damage is underestimated. I'm not even bringing up 20mms here as that is another topic on its own.

    Alternative to that is to belly land on the airfield and use a different airfield to respawn... And IMO killing the bomber in a climb out is a fair deal, it is not vulching when the aircraft has had enough time to gain speed in horizontal (but chose not to and instead climbed).

  11. Yes some of you got it right. The change of lift in damaged part is modelled, however asymmetrical drag and CL that depends on the AOA of the wing is not.

    After some discussion on discord I'd just like to give a comparison. MK108 uses 80 grams of RDX explosive (someone said its HA 41 which is 80% RDX and 20% alu). This is equivalent to around 150 grams of TNT. This here is a potato masher HE (not fragmentation) infantry grenade from WW2, pretty iconic image: If this wiki can be trusted it uses 170g of TNT load. So basically every 30mm hit is this hand grenade going off inside of the aircraft. I really like the new damage model. It is definitely better than what we used to have. But it desperately needs correct FM damage (https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/41600-aerodynamic-damage-and-stallspin-characteristics/?tab=comments#comment-704784). And the large calibre ammunition appears to underperform pretty badly.

    You shouldn't worry about targets anyway. KOTA does not have progression like TAW/Coconut, so w/e you destroy is meaningless anyway. In my mind targets are just good meet-up points for some airquacke as @SeaSerpent points out.

    1-ton bombs are pretty incredible all things considered. TAW reports building damage at 3x the actual buildings destroyed. Why? I have no idea. In any case, pe2 right now is the hands down best bomber in the game with the amount of damage it can tank. As you well are aware my last 110 sortie against you resulted in likely 30-40 20mm hits against both of the pe2s and last one had to be taken down with a ram anyway.
