  1. I'm not familiar with the Ryzen 5 CPU, so others may be able to give better advice than I can. I can, however recommend the Rift S as a very capable VR headset at a good price, giving sharp detailed visuals in IL-2. All instrument and panel text is clearly readable at normal pilot seating position. I get good frame rates with my rig (details below), so you have some comparison there.
  2. If you can give us more info about your rig and if you have a budget in mind, folks will be able to give you more useful advice Cheers Dave
  3. What a load of biased tosh! My poor little Rift S looks way sharper and detailed than the Reverb views shown in that video.
  4. For me it was an impressive increase in sharpness and detail..definitely a 'wow' moment. I find the headset is more comfortable too. Just needed to add some Koss KSC75 Clip-On Stereo Headphones for when I need more dynamic sound.
  5. ...this is for the Oculus Quest (the stand alone headset). You don't need a phone to set up the Rift S.
  6. You won't need Steam at all. Just find where your IL2 exe is installed in the Steam directory and create a shortcut.
  7. I just launch IL2 from a desktop shortcut before putting on my Rift, that works for me.
  8. Using Open Composite for some time here too. However, since yesterday's big update my FPS has taken a bit of a dive Quick mission 4 on 4 dogfight before update 70-80 fps consistent. After update 50-60 fps. Hopefully this will be ironed out in the final release.
  9. Noticing an FPS drop too. I fly VR and before the update in a 4 on 4 quick mission I was getting a nice steady 70 - 80 fps. Now I'm around 50 - 60 fps. As you say, lets hope the final release sorts it out. Fab update tho!
  10. Great Update! At last I can map my Spitfire gear control correctly instead of the silly toggle ..and..trim on an axis!...Bravo devs!
  11. Seeing all this cool new stuff, hand tracking, vari focus, 20:20 vision screens...makes you realise that all the new headsets released this year are truly only gen 1.5
  12. +1 to that. Excellent lean alternative to Steam.
  13. One thing I get from all these VR threads is that it's the guys flying in VR who seem to be having the most fun....just saying.
  14. That's what I do, yes. I think you can also do it with a command line in Open Composite but I haven't tried it.
  15. I see you are using a Rift. You could run IL2 via Open Composite instead of Steam. You'll get a boost in performance too https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR/blob/master/README.md
  16. Yeah, 'fraid so. https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR/blob/master/README.md
  17. +1 to that. Great to get rid of the Steam clutter and it's weird VR settings. But you need a Rift of course
  18. Tapi, I haven't tried any hot keys for bringing up the HUD in OTT. I only use it when I'm experimenting with new settings or updates, so I just have a RIFT controller on my lap and break out to Oculus desktop and tweak OTT from there. You're only out of the game for a few seconds.
  19. Fair comment. I don't play on line, so I'll take your word on that and can imagine the extra overheads would have a big impact. I did just try the quicky over the Kuban port you mentioned. I upped the aircraft to 8 on 8 and the lowest the frame reported was 74. Tapi, I haven't tried any hot keys for bringing up the HUD in OTT. I only use it when I'm experimenting with new settings or updates, so I just have a RIFT controller on my lap and break out to Oculus desktop and tweak OTT from there. Pleased you are having fun and 'getting there'
  20. If you are going to try Open Composite there is no need to uninstall Steam VR. I installed Open Composite and put a shortcut to IL2 on the desktop. Then you don't need Steam running at all. Just boot Oculus, then OTT and start IL2 from the desktop shortcut.
  21. Well, that's what I'm getting...between 75 and 80fps flying a six on six quick mission dogfight. Reported by in game counter and Oculus HUD. Go figure...
  22. Ah, I think you may be right, but I don't use Steam for IL2, I prefer Open Composite. https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR/blob/master/README.md
