  1. I recognise some of the things mentioned here. But my view might be different because im new to IL-2 BoS. I have no issue with the scratches making me lose view of the other plane. I lose the view of the other plane because i simply have trouble spotting them against the background. But that, for me, stands seperately from the scratches in the cockpit canopy. But yes, these scratches are very visible and i cannot remember seeing this when i was still flying sailplanes/soaring planes (im not sure how they are called). I used to fly planes like PZL puchacz and PZL junior and these also had plexi canopies.
  2. This is the first time i see this and i want to say that i am very much impressed. Thanks for sharing this.
  3. There is a lot of talk on this site about spotting/ seeing planes. Now i am certainly not an expert on the matter, but i tried some different settings from people here. Have you looked inside the forum? THere is really a lot of info. I have not tried installing other software like sweetFX yet, which i believe was also mentioned to improve the graphics. I am not sure wether in my case it was a change of settings or me just getting used to the sim, but my time certainly has improved. And i also compensate myself by flying lower than other planes, so they stand out better against the sky. Other things that helped me were trying not to shake my plane too much while spotting or simply zooming in the view. I also move my head forward (TrackIR user here) so i get a wider view through the front window, getting rid of the cockpit bars a bit. Personally i only have 23 hours into it and i am finally getting really used to the TrackIR. I move my head around a lot and that helped me bigtime.
  4. I would also recommend Adolf Galland's book, "the first and the last".
  5. Oh man, that is very bad and demotivating as well.
  6. Yeah it's like they say "let him sort it out, im going to drink tea laced with rum".
  7. Would be cool to have a handgun and shoot the guy between the eyes. After all, it is war ya know 🙂
  8. I always fly iron man. But yeah, getting killed also gives me mixed feelings, but it is part of the sim. I am actually kind of nervous when i do ground attack missions as well, that AAA intimidates me more than in any other sim before. And the noise it makes when it hits you! My most vivid memory is a mission i did with the HS-129, attacking a train. Made a few passes with success. Then when i extended from a pass, i got hit by AAA. At first it didn't seem so bad, just a scratch i thought. But then the right wing came off completely. Geeez, the shock! I was way too low to bail out and died in a huge explosion. Honestly i was staring at my screen silently for a few minutes, trying to get my head around what just happened.
  9. That purple nose looks absolutely beautiful to me.
  10. Looks fine to me. Exit the craft, light cigaret and think about past actions. 🙂
  11. I hear ya alright, it's not easy no. But most my successes have been head-on passes though. I know you don't like to do this, but i have to mention that i think you should reconsider. I had a 1v1 with an AI pilot yesterday and i also had trouble with him, but eventually i ripped him up via a head-on pass. The rollrate of the FW-190 is just so damn good, it amazes me every time, i use it to extend and then try to do my magic trick. That big cockpit edge is blocking the view sometimes so i move my face forward as much as i can to have the best view and then hide behind the cowl and blast away.
  12. Spot on, that was a great sim indeed. Multiplayed it a lot as well. I can only recall multiplayer actually, not anything else. Was there AI? I played a load of sims from the days of the C64, via Amiga into the PC era. I do not know all the sims by name anymore though. At the moment when i look at WW2 combat sims i compare them often to Microprose European Air War, which was just amazing to me. I was part of a virtual JG5 squadron then, with Jerry Boucher who is now making his money by making beautiful drawings of WW2 planes. Maybe people here have heard of him, you can find his name often on sites like www.hyperscale.com. IL-2 1946 was great, but i didnt like the campaigns, too short, not always realistic or representative of the simulated conflict. For example, the pacific campaign with the famous blacksheep squadron never involved flying from islands with F4U's which did happen in real life. And the pearl harbor campaign from the Japanese side was just with too few airplanes and i never discovered how i could increase this number. I mean attacking pearl harbor with 12 planes or so was disappointing to me. I only liked the Hungarian campaign, but again, this one was also very short. I bought IL-2 BoS months ago, but i noticed i needed a trackir or VR kit. Since i had no money for this then, i put IL-2 BoS in the "fridge" for a while. Couple of weeks ago i finally bought a trackir and i have clocked 15 hours in the sim since. I love it so far, but i stick with offline for now. I am a bit rusty.
  13. I have this one, along with the allied aces variant. And one i also liked is "the blond knight of Germany" about Erich Hartmann. The first book i read of a german pilot was from Heinz Knoke "i flew for the fuhrer", but this is western front if i remember well.
  14. WOnderful campaign, really immersive. I am into mission 8 or so now and i swear i feel like a seasoned luftwaffe pilot. Never have been shot down, even though some of the AI pilots gave me a good run for my money. I am usually outnumbered and i made it back at least once with a smoking engine. Only thing that was kind of weird ... Doing another patrol mission over enemy territory, i went deep into their area and noticed a bunch of planes flying around not acting on my attacks. I came across yaks and il-2's and whenever i shot at them, they hardly did anything. It was like i was fighting student pilots that were unaware of what to do against me. SOme did turn and try to evade, but none of them tried to shoot at me. What is this? I simply told myself i had run into a group of planes that were on training mission, yet close to the front.
  15. THanks guys, i appreciate the input. My solution was indeed a mapping that was missing. I had only engine 1 throttle mapped, but i missed the "engines throttle" mapping which was seperate. After fiddling a bit with the mappings, i noticed my throttle worked in reverse as well. But looking for that solution pointed me towards the "invert" button next to the actual mapped key/axis.
  16. I have looked here on the forum and i tried going through the ingame settings like keymappings. However, i can not control two engines on any dual engine plane. When i take a bf-110 and fly a quick mission, i can only control the number 1 engine (left). The number two engine is just going full throttle and i have no control. I use a joystick with only 1 throttle so i would like to control both engines with this. The ingame settings show me button "0" and that has an option to select engines, but maybe this is not what im looking for. Even when i select "all engines" it does not solve my problem. Is there anyone than can somehow help or show me some more info on this?
  17. Hi all, I have done little under 10 hours in IL-2 BoS so far, it runs quite well on my pc. I use TiR5 and im starting to get a good feel for the sim. My background a bit : I like realism, you will probably not see me doing war thunder or such a thing. Been doing sims since the C64 era (if you can call these sims nowadays). Last time i flew online in combat was in Aces High (hitechcreations). Other sims i have lots of good memories about: Ace of aces (C64 classic) European Air War. Steel Beasts Pro Silent Hunter 4 Sub command : akula il-2 1946 ( i liked it, but found the campaigns very short and unrealistic in general) I still have a number of questions about il-2 BoS, i will try to find answers myself as much as i can. But sometimes i will just rattle away here on the forum. For now i will stick a bit too doing missions and campaigns, but i will try online again soon. I do not consider myself a noob on flying combat, but i do feel rusty after years of not doing anything. And spotting other planes is very difficult i feel in il-2 BoS. But apparently, many other people have this issue.
  18. Do i have any relevance here when i say i use TiR5 with Requiems profile, but i cannot look at my rear view at all? I do not wish to highjack this topic, but i looked for info on this but could not find it. WHen i move my head, it goes about 90deg left/right at max. I use rearview button for now, but this is a fixed view. Against the AI in mission i cheat by looking at the outside of my plane a lot to get a good feel of what is happning behind me. But when i decide to go online, this would not be ok in my mind. I really wished i understood how to reconfigure the TiR profile so i can look back at all. I opted to buy TiR instead of VR. I tried VR but i felt really uncomfortable wearing it, i could hardly breathe through my nose ;-)
