  1. You are on the right track! I have to agree, info for opentrack is hard to come by. You definitely have to fine tune it to meet your needs. Here are the accela settings from eyek's ini file:

    • rotation:     20.1
    • translation: 20.1
    • order #2:    8.10
    • order #3:    8.10
    • rotation deadband:0.2
    • translation deadband: 1.8
    • exponent:   1.0

These work okay in my setup but I use a Logitech C270 camera. PS3 is supposed to be great in opentrack but again, you'll need to experiment with the numbers to see what works for you.

  2. For starters, with the mapping properties open, click on the yaw tab and you'll be able to see how much movement you are getting. Sometimes you just need to play around with those settings, try it on the pitch and roll tabs also. As your move your head keep an eye on the movement in the mapping properties and adjust them to get the movement you are looking for. And what version of opentrack are you using? Also in the main window watch the readouts at the top to see how much travel you are getting. Your yaw reading should go from 0 to 180 and 0 to -180. Have you tried it in-game? Normally you won't see lots of movement in the main screen of opentrack but you'll find it works okay in the game. Can't comment on the PS3 camera as I do not use it. Keep us posted!

  3. Download this one, it appears to be the latest build, opentrack-win32-20140913. Once downloaded you have to extract the file twice, not sure why but it is set-up that way. extract the .xz file and then extract the .tar file. Go into the install folder and create a desktop shortcut to opentrack.exe and set it to run under admin mode. You need a base .ini file to get started, copy the info below and save it as il2bos.ini, or whatever you like and place it in the settings folder.

Let me know how this works out for you. You can modify the settings to your liking and then save it with a new name.

  4. Opentrack works fine for me. Are you using an IR clip, or actual facetracking? Not much info around for opentrack but if you want some help I'll be glad to provide it. I never had any luck using face tracking so I went with a 3 point IR set-up. There are some curve profiles floating around here and I have several that you can try. I'm currently using one from Eyek who provided it here on the forums.

  5. One of these days I was at one of the MP servers, and flying a Yak-1. The server is one of those where both sides can chose any airplane, so, I had made a few kills of  Bf109s and was now fighting a Yak-1... The guy was easily turned inside and shot down twice, and then I realized something was wrong with his aircraft, and sent a public message asking how much fuel he was carrying...  While sending him the messages I folowed his aircraft but very close, but never shot. He answered 100%, so I told him, set itto 30%, or less, and you easily get away from my poor tactics...

He left, came back and this time on the same team, as I was heading towards another aircraft. He flew next to me and ... shot me down ( ??? ). I asked what had happened and he answered - It was snipers....

Well, not the best example of flying with honor :-/

That was probably me jcomm. I don't recall exactly what happened but I do recall the advice...thank you, well a bit late. I never have intentionally shot at someone on the same team! I get clobbered regularly in MP but I still have fun, which is what the sim is about for me at this time. You definitely need to have thick skin on the MP servers.

  6. .

I am singling you out Gramps, because you - you are freaking awesome! I hope to see you in the virtual Stalingrad skies, and I hope to be shot down repeatedly by you!

Thank you for the kind words FuriousMeow! I choose Gramps as I do have 5 grandchildren and they bring me joy & happiness. I will say I'm on the north side of 60, though that doesn't kill any youthful enthusiasm I have.

  7. I was as new to this MP thing as anyone else. I got shot down a lot as I learned but my skills have improved and that is due to practice, practice and more practice! It can be quite disconcerting, to say the least, when you get shot down four or five times w/no kills of your own, I know, I've been there. Practice in SP and then jump back into MP. It's a blast! I still think the I've gotten my money's worth out of this game over and over again. Read the other comments above and apply those tactics and I'm sure your experience will improve! Good flying!

  8. Hi everyone

I have seen some great work by sim pilots on other forums, and I thought it would be good to share something similar here. I'm a giant at 6 foot 9, so I needed something comfy for the long patrols over the theatre of operation. I hope you like it, and I invite you to share your "Office" too.

    Blue skies

In addition to the set-up for flying that display case full of models caught my eye also!

  9. I get shot down more often than not, but I'm still having a blast in MP. I stick w/the Yak and at least you have a chance against the 109/190 fliers. My flying and aiming have gotten better and I score an occasional kill. Some folks log-on, take off and get shot down and promptly leave the server. Hell, I'm still having fun and there is nothing like 20 planes flying around to muck things up. Last night I scored 3 kills, but was killed myself 13 times, a new record, but the whole time it was fun! I have a tendency to hang around too long after getting damaged instead trying to escape for home, or at least make an emergency landing. I know MP is not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy MP! My first foray into MP found me getting killed left and right, but I kept at it and have been improving. If you haven't tried it, come by and give it a shot, just don't expect to survive too long if your are new to MP. Off to get the latest update now, hope to see you in the skies, but not in my six...

  10. This is just a guess but 1 may be EU-Expert, 2 EU-Normal, 3 US-Expert, and 4 US-Normal? With none for EU-light ? I tried it briefly once just to see how it was and I rather enjoyed it. I believe I was on EU-expert in game and server 1 in teamspeak. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I'll try using it again the next time I'm in MP. I rather liked the immersion w/the sound in the headphones instead of the speakers.

  11. So I'm toiling away at the office today itching to get home for the latest update and pondering ways to improve the use of the buttons on my joystick. Now, and I don't know why it took so long, I thought "Could you use keyboard modifiers in conjunction with the stick buttons?". So after getting the latest update I go into settings, weapons controls, and I set "fire all guns" to joystick button zero (trigger), I go to bombs and set it to Lshft-joy b0, and then the rockets Lctrl-joy b0...and lo and behold it worked! Now this is probably old news to a lot of folks, I just never saw it mentioned anywhere and just assumed that the buttons were hard-coded somehow. I fly right-handed w/my left-hand on or near the keyboard, really easy to hit shft or ctrl and pull the trigger. Now, with four buttons on the joystick, the HAT switch, and twelve buttons on the base of the stick the possibilities are crazy. So it does prove that an old dog can learn a new trick. Now this was just a test, I normally have bombs on joy b1 and rockets on joy b2 and will probably leave them alone but it does open up some possibilities for setting other controls. Like I said, probably old news for most but just in case I'm not alone. Happy flying!

  12. I may not have shot anyone down but I sure did have fun tonight! Learning as I go and improving my flying skills. It was an adrenaline rush chasing a 109 at tree-top level and finding out I was out of ammo! Have to learn self-control w/the trigger. One other time as I was lazily parachuting to the ground a 109 went by and I swear I could have touched it! Just an amazing amount of fun and looking forward to more. To all the other pilots tonight thanks for an enjoyable time!

  13. One thing I found that helped me navigate was to turn the gamma down to .8 in the settings. It has made it a lot easier to discern features on the map, especially the rivers. Had not thought of this to earlier this evening and it has made a big difference.
