  1. Yes being forced to only play single player is incredibly frustrating; I miss the art of combat against real, experienced and skilled human opponents. Do you have the NBN at your address or are you using ADSL or wireless? At my previous address in Hawthorne, Brisbane I was only ADSL 2 and I averaged about 10mbps and my ping was also ok, I was always able to play MP. I think the ping issues I had at the next address (ADSL 2) were due to the distance from the exchange (3.5km) and perhaps at my current address due to the fact I am using wireless 4G. I am considering to try ADSL 2 until the NBN rolls out in my area.
  2. Yes I noticed with this server the ping is always low and in the green...around 50 on average That is also what my ping is for WoL however as soon as I join that server I get kicked from it before even getting into the game- I assumed that was because of my high ping?
  3. Sorry I forgot to mention that I took the 4G option, I think I will have ADSL connected and try my luck with that
  4. Hi Everyone I am having issues with having a high ping for most servers in MP, particularly Wings of Liberty and also DED. I live in Brisbane, Australia- is my geographical location having anything to do with it? I just moved into a new house, the NBN has not rolled out to my suburb yet (Australia is 3rd world for internet) and I had a choice between ADSL or wireless broadband 4G that connects to the mobile 4G network and allows 12mbps. Where I previously lived in Brisbane I had ADSL and averaged around 9mbps and I did not have any ping issues, at my new place I am averaging around 6mbps. I understand that ping is not directly related to mbps but I am including this information in case (I am not very tech savvy). I have a decent PC rig. I wish I could get this sorted as I basically cannot play MP now. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
  5. Hello I want to share with all of you my struggle over the past 2.5 years, now that the diameter of the circle of light at the end of the tunnel widens as each day passes. 2.5 years ago I was a virtual fighter pilot, my weapon of choice being the Bf109-F4. When I roamed the skies of IL2 I was in my happy place, a safe place, and every day I made time to hone my skills and progress in my hobby; a hobby by the way that I had no shame in taking perhaps a little bit too seriously. Even when I was not flying and sneaking up behind Yaks at 650km/h, I took daily comfort in daydreaming and reliving my greatest kills in my mind whilst sitting in my work cubicle, ostensibly taking part in sales meetings, or listening to my wife. 2.5 years ago my computer died and I lost a part of me and my sense of self. Circumstances at the time lead me to delay the purchase of a new rig which I figured would only be a matter of months; I could handle that, I could be patient. However, moving forward a few months, my wife and I decided to build our first home and for the 18 month construction waiting time we decided to be financially savvy and move in with my parents who live about 45 minutes drive from the city. Once we settled in I knew it was only a matter of time until I was restored to my former fit, fighting and flying self: it was time to buy a new PC and not just any PC, but one that could run IL2 BOS in all its glory. I picked up my new rig and brought it home to set up after which I had to download and reinstall Il2 BoS- there had been a number of significant updates since I had last played and I was particularly looking forward to trying out the spitfire and flying circus. I opened the launcher and began downloading the game and then I was informed of this: Download speed 16k/s Download time 6 days (if at all) It turned out that my parents happen to live in an area of Brisbane (Cleveland) that the NBN has not being introduced into yet and their house was far away from the ADSL exchange towers. I did a google search of our area and found that many people shared the same problem- the internet in the suburb completely sucks. I did eventually finish the download however flying online was impossible and future large updates were unattainable. I decided to grit my teeth and wait it out and that is what I have done, I have waited out the past 18 months without a single touch of the joystick. I have sustained myself only by occasional glimpses of new aircraft on YouTube and weekly readings on the forums of all the awesome updates I have been missing out on. This has been my struggle. In 2 weeks, I move into my new home, it has fast broadband internet. The Me262 has just been released. My struggle is about to come to an end.
  6. Hey guys, I just bought and set up a new gaming rig in anticipation of getting back into IL2, however as I am flying I get continuous pop ups stating that I need to install .net framework 3.5, when I click install from within the popup it presents me with error code 0x800F0950 I have Windows 10 installed and in windows features .net framework 4.7 is selected as default, when I try to check the box for 3.5 it says it needs to install, when I try to download it from there it gives me the same error code. I do not have a cd/dvd drive, and the computer came with the windows 10 cd, not a usb Does anyone have any idea what to do? There seem to be various ideas on google but it seems rather tricky...very frustrating as I have a few days off to get back into IL2 and I am stuck trying to figure this out. Thanks in advance

  8. These are good points you make Chiliwili, my naivety has been laid bare....thanks for the advice, I will get back to you
  9. Thanks for all the information guys, really big help, I think I will need to dig a bit deeper into my wallet.....this is actually the first time I have acted parsimoniously when buying a gaming pc, I used to just go all out, but I have the wife to think about now That being said I think it is well worth forking out an extra $500 or so, given I will probably have the rig for a few years, and I do want to finally try VR. I am in Australia by the way, the specs I entered above were going to set me back around $1.5k....$2k is probably my max budget Again, thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it....hopefully I will be hunting Russians by this weekend
  10. Thanks for the info, would you suggest this instead: Processor: Intel Core i7 8700 6x Core Motherboard: Intel LGA1151 Board Ram: 8GB Certified DDR4 Ram SSD: 120GB (~128GB) Solid State HDD: 1TB SATA 3 7200 RPM 6GB/S Graphics: 4GB Nvidia GTX 1050TI
  11. Hello everyone, I have been on extended leave from IL2 BOS for the past 2 years or so, my PC died and then I moved house and have been busy etc. However I have gotten to the point now that I just cannot take it anymore and I need to get back into the skies. I am buying a new gaming PC this week and need advice as to whether the rig I am looking at will be suitable- I wish to run the game at max settings. These are the specs ( see below) of the pc I am thinking of buying, does anyone have any recommendations regarding this please? I was hoping for an I7 however the price difference is significant and from my limited knowledge I think the I5-8500 coupled with the 6GB GTX 1060 should be more than enough? Will the I5 be enough for the GTX 1060 to reach it's full potential? CPU: Intel Core i5-8500 3.00GHz MB: Gigabyte H370-HD3 Motherboard VGA: Gigabyte Nvidia 6GB GTX 1060 G1 Gaming Ram: GeIL EVO FORZA 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2400 SSD: WD Green 240GB M.2 SSD HD: Seagate 3.5" BarraCuda 2TB SATA III Hard Disk Drive Case: Rotanium TG301 Black USB3.0 Blue LED Tempered Glass Gaming Case PSU: Coolermaster MWE 650W 80+ Bronze Power Supply SW: Microsoft Windows 10 Home 32bit/64bit USB Drive

  13. One thing I have noticed since playing Il2 BOS is the appearance of childish players who have been dishing out insults and using offensive language. I think the term I despise most is "noob". When I hear this I imagine some pimply, arrogant, smug teenager who is used to playing call of duty, eating his doritos and getting a kick out of demeaning new players who havent the 12 years experience in front of the computer as he has. I was always put off by the arrogant, bratty teenager vibe of the first person shooters and other arcade, quick fix, type games and felt comfort in knowing that the fan bases of my beloved flight simulators were, in the majority of cases, of a higher maturity and class to this. Back in the RB3D days you rarely saw this type of behaviour, you definitely never saw the word "noob" appearing. These days you can pick an old hand when you see a "S!" given after a kill. It was a sad day for me when during a routine session in IL2 BOS that I saw messages such as "f*** u f***et" and "noob" being posted. Flight simulations are complex games with steep learning curves, they take years of virtual flying/combat experience to gain the knowledge required to become truly successful in them against the best in the business and you usually find a large contingent of highly intelligent, passionate players in both the game and the forums. I really hope we can bring back the gaming experience and level of respect between players as we had in the past. The Bf109 is the greatest aircraft in history by the way and I love the coziness of the cockpit....S!
  14. Your in for a treat....listen to me very carefully MrHemlocks, drop everything in your life at this present moment and download this game, strap yourself into a Bf109 F4 and get yourself into the air immediately, it would be a great moral indecency to do anything else..forget your family, your friends, your job, everything....get the game now, you dont know what you have been missing
  15. Awesome game/simulation, brings joy to my heart and also addiction (if you ask my wife).... I spend a lot of time during meetings at work with my mind wandering off to hunting Laggs and Yaks over Stalingrad ni the beautiful Bf 109. Looking forward to the evolution of the game, I will be supporting it all the way. Congrats devs..
  16. http://www.pagnianimports.com.au/racing-simulator-cockpit/flight/flight-simulator-cockpit-gaming-chir.html When you get to the site go to top left and click on simulators and then flight. Might ask my wife to get me one for Christmas, anyone have any experience with these? Are they worth it and do they add to immersion?
  17. Hello everyone I am hoping to gain some further insight into tactics for head on merges in a 1v1 scenario (same aircraft, same energy state) as there are a few things I am confused about. Please forgive me if my post appears rushed, I have little time to write this. If a merge results in a one circle fight and both opponents entered into it using a lead turn and the same aircraft/energy state is it better to slice, pitch verticle or into the oblique or a horizontal turn? I understand this depends also on what your opponent is doing. For example, you could try to minimise your turn radius so as to be able to reverse your turn when you cross paths with the opponent and try to position on their 6. However the energy spent making this reversal means that they could climb outside of your manoeuvre and stay above you during it ready to drop down on you once you run out of energy trying to pursue them. If you see that they are trying to climb like in the example above, should you just climb with them to neutralise the position? If you wanted to be on the offensive during this situation what could you do? If you merge and the fight becomes a two circle fight, should you follow your opponents flight path/plane of motion and try to pull lead on him, or should you manoeuvre into the oblique? Some people say that you should enter the fight at corner speed, this is fine if you want to maximise your g load and turn rate in that first turn and gain an initial advantage in angles, but what if as soon as you bleed your energy doing that your opponent is going into the vertical and storing his energy? For example, if I am flying a 109, whenever I have a Yak opponent merge with me and then he goes 1 circle with me and tries to turn horizontally as fast as he can back at me, I just do a gentle turn towards him keeping my energy high while he depletes his in the turn and then as he is about to cross my path I climb up into a climing turn and he cannot follow it, as soon as he drops away I dive on him or keep climbing. If the opponent is in a 109 same as me then this can also work I find but to a lesser extent as the 109 has a better climbing ability. I read that the slice is the best option as it quickens your turn because you have radial G helping you, however this extra speed could increase your turn radius/rate if you are already at high speed. I also notice that most people seem to go up into the verticle oblique rather than a slice? I could list a dozen examples and it would just become confusing but I am sure you catch my drift as to the information I am looking for. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
  18. And by COD I am assuming you are referring to Call of Duty...right?
  19. Sport02- I am not sure exactly what you mean, the view from the cockpit that I have is just the standard 1st person view available inside the cockpit. I use this view both in MP where it is required and also for offline play. I never fly externally. That being said I am still waiting for Track IR so once I use that perhaps that will provide me with a more realistic FOV from inside the aircraft. Sorry is this kind of what you were asking me?
  20. Yes I heard that the spit was cramped also and that when spit and 109 pilots had a chance to get into a P51 they were amazed by how roomy the cockpits were. For me honestly I think I would feel more in control of the aircraft in a tighter cockpit but who knows how it would be in real life...it would probably be a claustrophobic experience and scare the hell out of me.....I'd still give it a try though
  21. For the record, I do not use it and I get by ok without it using the hat switch...but this is because I am so used to it from years of playing. The downside is it does take me longer to check my 6 and sometimes makes scissor fights and reverse high yo-yo attacks when my opponent is on my 6 more difficult in terms of orientating myself. So that being said, I will be using Track IR very soon..........very interested in the Occulus Rift
  22. Since my earliest days of using combat flight simulators (ww1 and ww2) I have always had an immense curiosity as to the real life cockpit view and positioning for the pilot. Given that I have only flown ww1 & 2 fighters on simulations the only idea I really have is the cockpit image on my screen and also by trying to imagine the seating position and view from analysing cockpit photos of various aircraft. I have always liked the idea of a fighter plane having a small cockpit in which the pilot is hugged by the plane. It can give the pilot improved stability and control in the aircraft free of jerky movements caused by rough air manouvering. It could also help the pilot feel more like part of the airplane and if he/she is in a more horizontal position I have heard this can assist with decreasing the effects of G forces. My favourite aircraft is the Bf 109 and to me it has always given such an impression as a true fighter due to the narrow cockpit and horizontal seating position of the pilot (almost like an F1 car). I have heard many accounts of how cramped the 109 cockpit was but my question is just how cramped and small was it really? I have seen a video on youtube with a modern day british pilot getting into a 109 cockpit and it did look very small in this video. I would really like to know what the view out of the cockpit and the seating position was like for the pilot and just how small it really was. Was it's small size relative to the size of the airframe or intentionally designed even smaller? Any information anyone has on this would be much appreciated.
  23. S! Yesterday I had the privilege of taking part in a glorious scrap over the ruins of Stalingrad as a traitor to the encircled 6th Army. I say this because usually I would be strapped into a 109 on the hunt for Russian birds however this time I decided to try my hand as a top turret gunner in a PE-2 flown by "Cyclone". During the flight to the German airbase we were intercepted by three 109's and needless to say the action that ensued was breathtaking and desperate. We were taking hits but still flying intact and I was attempting to conserve ammunition by only taking small pot shots at the attackers. I managed to do away with one 109 and get hits on another before my ammunition was exhausted and it really seemed to run out very quickly. Shortly after our fuel tank must have taken a direct hit because we just suddenly blew up. A quick and honourable death, fighting to my last breath....or should I say, last bullet. My question is, does a possibility exist for an option to carry more ammunition as a gunner? It really did not seem like enough to stage an adequate defence. I understand that the plane is designed to carry a lot of bombs and so efforts must be made to not stack on too much weight, but surely it could hold a few extra rounds for the machine guns? On another note, this sim is just getting better the more I play it, the perspective from the gunner's position as the 109's came in was awesome and looked like real footage as they fired and then zoomed up and away. Also I love the mid-air explosion effects when you hit your enemy in the fuel tank and the fact that you can be hit by the debri from the kill....real Erich Hartmann style The progress on this sim has been very professional.
  24. I have the same enquiries as you do in regards to the damage model and hit boxes. Now before everyone jumps at my throat for bringing up COD please note I am just using it as a reference point for comparison, I am well aware that BOS is still Alpha and COD was years in development etc. In regards to damage, I find it much easier to hit and damage/destroy an enemy plane with simple machine gun fire from long range than I have in other ww2 sims. In COD in particular I found it much more difficult to hit an enemy plane, especially compared to BOS and especially when using the cannon in the 109- it seems to really take the projectile drop into account with the heavier rounds. That being said I noticed the same thing in ROF, I could fire from a long distance away and still have great accuracy and generally bring down an enemy plane at range relatively easily.
  25. Hello I have a question regarding the dowing of Il2's in the game. I have read of the experiences of several German aces who described how difficult it was to bring down an Il2. Given they had so much armour plating you really had to hit the Il2 in the sweet spot to have any chance of bringing it down. Erich Hartmann mentioned in his final interview (I think it was his final one) that with the Il2 you had to hit it underneath in the oil cooler on the belly of the plane to have any hope of bringing it down (perhaps besides through the canopy). Does anyone else feel it may be too easy to down an Il2 in this sim? I have taken down several with only machine gun fire and not cannon and with only short bursts. Was the Il2's engine compartment well armoured? Feedback much appreciated.
