  1. Nice! How do you compare con recognition / spotting as compared to CV1?
  2. Good to hear. I opened a ticket with oculus support due to crackling / popping sounds coming from my Rift S.
  3. Ok, on id'ing I would tend to agree, but with the zoom mod it is really the same level as with the screen. Id'ing is also only partly based on what you actually see. It is always a combination of other factors such as location, altitude, direction, current maneuvers etc. So a con on deck in a tight turn would probably is going to be red plane vs. a zooming out con at high speed which is probably a blue one...
  4. Isn't spotting challenging in IL-2 in general to begin with, i.e. also on the flat screen, especially at high res? I recall continues ranting on this topic on the forums with cons showing up out of nowhere, disappearing etc.
  5. A good blog post specifically focusing on sims: http://www.datkin.net/oculus-rift-s-quick-hands-on/
  6. I would say it is a sufficiently large improvement which justifies the extra spent and replacement of CV1. I would even go further and say that I would recommend this VR device to the first time users of VR coming from PC. It is reasonably priced, easy to install / use and delivers a much better picture quality compared to CV1. On CV1 many first time users (not simulation addicts and enthusiasts as us) were actually disappointed due to (i) set-up complexity and (ii) poor image quality due to SDE. I think from business perspective Oculus made the right move, combination of Rift S for PC users a
  7. Zoom function doesn't work correctly for Rift S. Images for the left and right eye do not match. I assume convergence settings need to be adjusted somehow.
  8. So I was able to spend some time with Rift S yesterday. I made sure to fly the same quick mission (4 vs. 4 intercept) on CV1 before installing Rift S. I only used Rift devices before (DK2 -> CV1 and Rift S now), so below is a very subjective first impression after maybe 30 minutes use. I can't draw any comparison with other VR solutions, just with the original Rift CV1. Set-up: Very easy and simpler as compared to CV1 given that there are no external sensors. I didn't need to install any new software. Plug, follow steps on the screen, update the firmware and set-up the guardian
  9. Was frustrated in VR until I applied these settings plus the mod:
  10. Installed the new (beta) drivers today, substantial improvement in performance. Both in terms of FPS in fpsVR and general smoothness of the game. Highly recommend for all oculus user!
  11. Yes, multi core is really an issue for flight sims. We all remember the CloD failure, beside the raw game the designers banked on continues clock increase on CPUs and where not prepared for the shift to multi cores...
  12. Multicore support would solve 90% of the issues...
  13. Implement lobby functionality to enable match making and allow people to join a mission (generated or custom made) at the same time. Two teams, different roles, different planes, endless possibilities... We had it all with hypperlobby and old IL-2 already in 2001...
  14. Interesting review already on youtube based on 30 minutes hands on: Valve Index is currently my front runner for Rift replacement: I do like the physical adjustment of the IPD and the solution for the headphones. I do think that the overall build, optics, software and the ecosystem are more important as compared to just pure resolution point. Hence not sure that Pimax or Reverb would be better. Would be interesting to see the first reviews with real life and hopefully IL-2 application. Still pre ordered Rift S just to try it out and bridge the t
  15. I read couple of posts from the devs on the Air Marshal, but did we see anything in terms of news on the new lobby / match making?
  16. Letzer Versuch, sonst gehst es auf Ebay...
  17. As many of you I remember with great fondness the virtual wars hosted with help of HypperLobby during IL-2 / IL-2 FB times. Massive team battles in either scripted or generated missions in VOW / VEF. Great times! Soaring back into the virtual skies of IL-2 BOX now it seems that the only exiting alternatives are DF-style servers, albeit with some mission background / target etc. While having 80+ pilots on wing of liberty is not bad, in my view it doesn't compare with match-style missions team vs. team in various virtual wars / coops. Now the announcement of Bodenplatte from November 2017 (inter
Danke.
