Daring low-level cross-channel raids in Typhoons and Mosquitos. Dash in at dawn, under 500ft to avoid radar, pop up and blap the port / uboat pen / marshalling yard / enemy airfield, then run away back home before the oppos have got their slippers on. Some discussion on this thread verging on unfrivolous. Outrageous I say. While the chaps enjoy a well deserved break this week, and maybe next, what do you all hope for from the next DD? Sometimes I think 'mk xiv liveries', but then I have to call the nurse for my meds because I've got far too excited to be in polite company...

Would be interesting to see some data on number of aircraft lost (by a particular squadron etc) v. number of pilots lost... Obviously you're never going to lose more pilots than aircraft, but would be interesting to get a feel for the average number of prangs one could expect before one got the chop...

To be fair, comparing the narrative to the historical facts, this should be more reasonably categorised as 'fiction or fantasy'. It seems Mr Bishop was a Very Naughty Canadian...

I've sat in the back seat of a Spit & a T-6 Harvard. I think the new sounds are a more accurate reflection.

Idk, I've flown in open cockpit 30's biplanes and warbirds and it sounds perfect to me.

Almost certainly! I'm a regular at Old Warden, it's properly amazing. Shame 'Dodge' Bailey didn't manage to dodge that fence post! V glad everyone was ok, and with characteristic sang-froid the show went on - despite pretty miserable weather. And was very glad to see the tripehound back in the air this year!

In my adventures as a daring but incompetent low level pilot, I frequently manage to brush treetops with my prop. I've seen everything from instant prop break and engine seizure to severe vibration and rpm fluctuations to getting an 'engine damaged' notification and marginal loss of speed with no other real consequences. Admittedly this is terrain damage rather than projectile damage but it does seem to indicate that different states of prop damage do exist...
