  1. FWIW, flying that plane on the 'Achtung Spitfire' campaign really really instilled in me the value of ammunition conservation, and also to focus on my mission objective...as opposed to being some hotshot wanting to rack up kills. As it turned out, I did rack up a respectable number of kills; but I really didn't try to. I had to, by the necessity of the limits of the odds against me and my "side" numbers-wise, and my limited supply of ammunition. Especially in missions of bomber/attack escort. I'd attack, make a run at an enemy fighter only when it is attacking one of my escort charges or one of my wingmen. I won't fire "scare shots" or whatever: I couldn't afford to. I'd fire using only the 303s from 300m in. Cannons set to 220-250 and even then I'd never use them unless I was positive I'd hit. In any case, I'd get a good burst in, and when it broke off I didn't chase it if it flew away far enough not to be a threat. What ended up happening...a lot...was a lot of the planes I hit ( mostly 109s ) would eventually go down, several or more minutes later. I got so methodical that sometimes I'd run out of 303 ammo first. While it's more obvious ( and more satisfying ) to see the Hispano 20mm guns chew up and plane, those 303s are doing more damage than is apparent at the time of shooting. Not only did I get most of my kills using just the 303s, there were times I was ( too? ) careful with my gunnery that I'd RTB with the objective complete with most of my cannon rounds still left. I figure now, if I can apply that same methodology with more heavily armed planes, it should really pay off.
  2. I didn't know that few of them were built. Love the plane though, and glad there are a few still preserved.
  3. FWIW, I've gotten 3 or 4 IL2s in a C202 in a single sortie quite a few times. I do take the wing mounted 7.7mm machine guns though. Ammunition load provides for a fair amount of trigger time for the 12.7mm guns, and I never shoot unless I'm sure I'm going to hit, and I won't shoot unless my rounds land in a concentrated area. Those 12.7 mm gun rounds have lackluster ballistic performance at over 250m, but I shoot at less than that, and when they hit, they DO hit hard.
  4. The suspense is killing me: I'm assuming the screenshot in the OP was from an actual sortie he had. Was it a successful kill? Also thanks very much for the posting of the technical details and photos of that sight. Fascinating.
  5. FWIW, a fly-along video from the cockpit of the later P-63. The gearbox whine is LOUD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGFoWfoMZfU Another video of the same plane, more fine details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F54jcEFECck&t=2s
  6. Sometimes that works, others not ( for me ) In the midst of the constant loop of "target destroyed" chatter, I'll issue a command like attack nearest ground ( or air ) target, rejoin, RTB and I will get a reply, which does interrupt the chatterer, but then after a few seconds, he's usually back at it again.
  7. Thanks. I'll give that a shot.
  8. I've had similar results. On some sorties I was able to bag all 4 IL-2s, though 1 or 2 took a few minutes to eventually crash. I take the optional 7.7mm guns. Sure, not much "oomph" but they don't adversely affect A/C handling in a way noticeable to me, plus they're good at "chipping away" or applying a coupe de grace to an A/C teetering on the edge.
  9. "Ki61 vs. F6F" I'll second that... 😀
  10. Early on ( earlier on ) in the sim the Bf-109. I like the '190 more now. I've become very used to the Fw-190's handling to the point where recently, when I picked up again on the 'Fortress on the Volga' campaign ( Bf-109 G2 ) the roll rate was so "bad" I thought I've sustained damage or that the ailerons were reduced to the size of a typical smart phone, or maybe I was carrying a 250kg bomb under each wing or was equipped with those stupid MG151 gondolas ( on missions not so outfitted ) I still hold the 109 in high regard though: it's probably the best "does everything pretty good overall" plane in the game, and I'll tell you this: After flying the Spitfire MkV in the 'Achtung Spitfire' campaign, the Bf-109 seemed like a trainer by comparison in regards to it's relative docility in ground handling, take-off and landing.
  11. You can use the multi direction "castle" switch just beneath the hat switch on that stick for trim. Works very well for me.
  12. FWIW, it could be that some or even much of the recoil generated by firing a round is absorbed by the mechanism that auto reloads the next round....assuming the gun is gas operated.
  13. I would like to know this too. Playability is OK but only as long as I use aging drivers.
  14. Thanks for the advice. Very good. I just received a reply stating the book will be sent.
  15. It looks like it was originally designed for the air racing circuit and that someone said "let's add armaments and we'll have a hot interceptor".
  16. I'd still waiting for my copy of Volume 4...sent payment 4 months ago.
  17. Should be good: Provisioning should be easier with much less crowded stores, and the roads to/fro will be all mine.😀
  18. Funniest thing I read today. You win the internet. Now get out of the bathroom....
  19. Interesting you mentioned that, because I did notice that I had more directional stability while taxiing on grass than on the paved taxiway. Of course I found this out by accident when I swerved off the taxiway into the grass, and I just figured I'd take the grass as a shortcut to the runway.
  20. Man, you aren't kidding. I haven't flown the Spitfire much, and it's the only plane I haven't yet taxied and taken off in. I was eager to begin the new 'Achtung Spitfire' campaign that just came available. Hopes were dashed, as after a half-dozen attempts at taxiing to the runway resulted in 4 ground loops which led to crashes, and 2 take-offs that left me careening into whatever. I gave up in disgust and called it a night. I thought the Mig-3 and the Bf-110 were tough to taxi/take-off in....they're a breeze compared to the Spitfire. I'll revisit it again, heeding your advice. I just watched Requiem's tutorial on the Spitfire Mk V, and he suggests trimming the rudder full right for take-off. !!! Can't believe they opted not to have a lockable tailwheel back in the day.
  21. I'm wondering that myself. Went to launch the game to sample the new planes and amps of the big update a few days ago, but I see it's updating now with a slightly more than half a gigabyte update. "curiouser and curiouser"
  22. Did this and it worked: Clear your password from the field, and uncheck the save password option. Hit ENTER, pop-up says you need a password ( obviously ). Re-enter your password...Hit ENTER....I'm in!
  23. "My downloaded and installed fine but when I click enter at the login it says #1: No connection with authorization server & #2 Your connection to the Master-Server was temporarily lost. Check you internet connection. So I try offline and I get #10005: Please update your game: new version available. I'm at a loss what to do next , , , , " +1. Exact same issue for me too.
