    How are you Lemsip,

I just watched all your 'Going Solo' videos. I haven't read Roald Dahl's book 'Going Solo' and I didn't realize where he served during WWII. I have a very close family connection with the North Africa, Greece, Crete campaign and I will privately tell you the amazing story one day of my relation.

Keep up the good work you are doing, bringing alive what really happened to real people during various aerial actions in WWII - IL2 Sturmovik 'Great Battles' is the best platform to achieve this, and it is getting better all the time.

Wow, I am intrigued now to hear that story. Thanks for watching!

I am looking to recreate his paintwork but need some info. if anyone can help?

Tom flew of Ark Royal in May 1941 in a Hurricane before landing at Malta.

    And that's all I have.

I am looking for the Hurricane type (IIb, IIc?), the serial number and lettering if possible? Currently my searches of the National archives have proved fruitless.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance, Mysticpuma.

Hi as stated, I've done a fair amount of research into the Grecian and Cretan Hurricanes (which was a nightmare). It is a similar situation with the Malta Hurricanes, but with more consensus. It is most likely that the batch of Hurricanes Tom Neil's squadron flew off the carrier were painted Dark Green/Dark Brown/Sky blue underside.

This thread gives you all the details you will need, and this photo is pretty much accurate except for the aircraft serial no.

  3. Hi all,

As part of my adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'Going Solo', I will be using IL-2 CloD Tobruk for a few videos. Here is the first, which will be followed by Dahl's experience in Palestine and Syria.

You can see Dahl's experience of the Grecian Campaign here, which I have already completed in IL-2 GB:

    Survival added 12 April 2021

Palestine and Syria, and Home added 3 May 2021

But as a big fan of Clostermanns book(s), I should point out Georges-Eric Coisne's work as well, covering Clostermanns operational life in detail by matching his logbook to the squadrons ORBs. He also goes into detail about how and when Clostermann started writing "The Big Show".

Great information thank you. After researching to make my videos as accurate as possible, I am well aware of the historical discrepancies in The Big Show (and it has gotten very confusing at times!). However, I did not know there were such massive differences in each edition. For example in my 2004 English edition, Clostermann flies with Ian Blair in 'Tussel in the Stratosphere'. Similarly, it has been a nightmare trying to work out what markings his planes had in each chapter, as JF-E seems to be inserted earlier in the book than records show ('Train Busting' will be remade because I am unhappy with the inaccuracy). I also wish I had a copy of that study by Coisne, but I will continue making the series with even more caution than I already had. Thanks again!

If you are interested the solutions will probably arise from different ways ???

I don't know your techs for realizing your films but from what I saw, I think of many possibilities _not specially for AFN....

Clostermann's own voice on your "Big Show" vids  for instance, but do you understand french  ?

    Hope to help

I know enough to understand a lot of what he says in his audio records. However, before making any plans for any new series, I will be finishing The Big Show first. Then Ill be able to think of other things.

THE BIG SHOW  is considered by many as ( one of  ) the best video here... So I do , and I watched them many time.

Being a fan of CLOCLO since my early years, I always hope to see more and that you receive what your works deserves  !

The enclosed pictures may perhaps help you to extend to another period _with help from ARMA III_

This time : North Africa 1955-56 where Closterman, retired and Member of Parliament served one year voluntarily  with 4 stripes  (Commandant) under orders of Colonels who where junior to him and much less decorated...

Im intersted Bonnot, but I dont know how I would do it even with ARMA III?

Thank you very much for this masterpiece Lemsip! I really enjoyed watching it and it was a pleasure for me to lend you my voice for this. Feel free to tag/pm me if you need some German lines again 😄

Thankyou Al, you allowed me to include the German perspective which was never planned. I will almost definitely need you and the others for more videos.

  8. A New Zealander fighter pilot of 486 Squadron RNZAF fights for survival during the last months of the war on the Western Front. A short film based on pilot memoirs and historical events, ‘Fury in the Sky’ blends the flight simulator IL-2 Sturmovik and milsim ARMA III to create an immersive and historically authentic story about air combat in the Second World War. Made for the 'Art of War' film competition. @Jason_Williams, @ShamrockOneFive I’m sure you’ll like this!

Well done to the voice actors @Bluekiwi42, @AceVenturi, @6FG_Big_Al, @=RS=SirModernisation, @von_Tom, @[Pb]Cybermat47, who all volunteered to help me out with this video.

I hope you will do, Clostermann is not only an ace but a wonderful storyteller !

I don't know if  "Une Sacrée Guerre" is translated as it gives more details, there are also interviews in french (some on YouTube reappearing sometime...) so you could have is own voice .

A problem is when he describes vividly an action with a flakship or airfield flak , IL gives barely two guns ....Since I flysims I wonder how to make a living ground to match the sky action.....It is a pity to watch so many details on grass, trees , architecture etc... and nobody else .

Ruins of Stalingrad with smokes and exploding shells is probably a solution...sad but more realistic  and immersive.

Bon courage for your next works !

Dont worry, I will make it epic :)

Nice work! I still haven't gotten to jump out of a plane in PS yet...

I made post on steam complaining about how ridiculously rare it is to paradrop. Its honestly such a cool feature that should be a main part of the game, not a 1 in 100 matches event, especially since it only lasts about 5 mins! I literally had to compile the jump footage over a year or more.

hello, thanks for info : I'd never saw this Post-Scriptum before....never been interested in multi and PS had probably no advertising like Tanks or Ships games.

Also, I changed my compi , move to Win10, lost in the process lots of datas, mails, url etc....

Looks you didn't received long mail for your Clostermann's serie I much enjoyed ;  if you are still interested in the topic I can try to relocate those infos ???

    Waiting for next vids !

Thats ok it seems like a hassle! Thank you for the kind words, Im glad you appreciate my efforts. I have 2-3 more Tempest chapters to make. After those, I must wait for the new aircraft and Normandy map to continue the story.
