Logitech Flight System G940 - input maps for Rise of Flight ('tight' rev. 2 - 21-05-2010)

---------------------------------------
0. Introduction of the revised profiles
---------------------------------------

I recently purchased the Logitech G940 for use with the WW-1 flightsim 'Rise of Flight' (ROF).
I soon found out that both the stick itself and the in-game planes need to be configured for
a smooth and/or gratifying experience. To this end, I started editing the G940's settings and
input maps for ROF, after wich I put them up for download. This is an update of that original
set of profiles: the release of Logitech's 5.09 driverset has made the standard handling of
the stick vastly different, resulting in new behavior of the planes. For instance: while the
overall accuracy is much improved, the force feedback effects on the plane's control surfaces
seem less noticeable at the default configuration. The new input maps thus have two goals: a).
Keep the handling of the planes smooth and responsive, while b). Making the force feedback
effects more noticable.

I hope you'll enjoy the results of my experiments!

---------------------------------------
1. Initial setup of the G940, v5.09
---------------------------------------

First: Make sure you've applied both the 5.09 profiler patch *AND* the firmware update! Look
in Logitech's readme-file (included with the patch) for instructions on how to do this. Then,
access the G940's settings using either the Logitech Profiler or by clicking on: Start ->
Devices and Printers -> Logitech G940 Joystick -> Game Controller Settings -> Properties ->
Settings. I find the following settings to be confortable when playing ROF:

Enable force feedback: ON
Total effect strength: 101%
Force of the spring-effect: 100%
Force of the dampening-effect: 50%
Enable centering spring:	OFF

I use the 101%-value for the 'Total effect strenght' because some of the weaker Force
feedback-effects don't seem to manifest well (or at all) at settings lower than 100%.
Next, the force of the spring-effect is set at default, since this is what generates the
pressure you feel on the plane's control surfaces. (You'll probably want to feel these since
it's what the G940 is designed for after all). The dampening-strength is a general pressure
effect that comes into play when the stick is moved from the center. Keeping this low
prevents the stick from becoming to tight. For this reason the centering spring force is
disabled as well.

2. Installation & use of the input maps
---------------------------------------

The individual input maps contain rounded curves for pitch, roll and yaw settings, as well
as force feedback settings, wich are used in tandem with the settings explained above. To
use the maps, follow the steps described below:

1. Copy the maps to game's "input"-folder, wich resides in the "data"-folder,
   e.g.: [drive]\[game-folder]\data\input
2. Start the game.
3. Go to the 'options'-menu.
4. In the 'controls'- or 'responses'-tab, click on the drop-down menu at the top-right
   of the screen.
5. Select the profile of your choice.

You're good to go!

Note that selecting one of the profiles overrides the buttons you've previously assigned to
your own profile(s). If you don't like my mapping, you can either: a). re-assign the buttons
manually, using the 'controls'-tab in the game or b). open the .map files in Notepad and
copy/paste the section between 'KEYSET ACTIONS' and 'KEYSET ACTIONS END' from your old profile
over the same section in the new profile. This will allow you to retain your old button
configuration, while still using the new force feedback-settings and curves. In any case, the
buttons in my pofiles are mapped like this:

Stick:

Fire (index): Fire both machineguns
Fire (red): Drop bomb
S1 : Fire left MG
S2 : Fire right MG
S3 : Fire signal rocket
S4 : Recharge all machineguns
S5 : Center head
POV: Move head

Throttle:

Right throttle: Engine throttle up/down
Left throttle: Altitude throttle (for the Fokker D.VII.F)
R1 : Mixture rich/meagre
R2 : Radiator open/close
T1 : Accelerate time
T2 : Decelerate time
T3 : Game pause/unpause
T4 : Engine on/off
P1 : Bomb door open
P2 : Bomb door close
P3 : Drop bomb
P4 : Drop all bombs
